Special Victims Unit -- This should be interesting. Looking into management of CPS, and the usual, and often accurate, "understaffed & underpaid" problem has got to be examined. Also state/county budget; CPS guidelines tying the hands of CPS staff such as "returning the child to the family or allowing visits is the best and primary step" but keeping tabs after the return is often when we see the abuse and sometimes deaths. We've heard from many frustrated CPS workers. Surely things can be made better. Find the faults. It's not unsolvable, IMO.

Please note: I'm speaking out of school since I've never worked in CPS, so forgive if harsh or misunderstood, but we see it too damm often.
Maybe some good will come of this -- a thorough investigation may take a while -- hoping we can follow this investigation -- and hoping it's more than a slap and a dab.

The court dismissed many charges against Larry Weaver Jr. These charges included Child Endangerment, 2 counts of Drug Abuse, and 3 counts of Drug Trafficking.

Grand Jury Indictments are required in Ohio for felony charges.

In this case, the charges against Edwards are legally considered waived and will be considered by the Grand Jury. Those against Weaver, however, were dismissed. This action was taken by the judge as a result of his insistence on a speedy trial.

However, James Robinson -- who lives next door to the grandparents and is related to the grandmother -- says he helped take care of the baby on a daily basis.

“To Zariah I was dad,” Robinson said. “I was always there, like from daylight to dark. I’m the one who put her to sleep at night.”

Robinson says the last time he saw baby Zariah after she came back from her mother’s house was the last time he ever got to hold her.

Obituary

Zariah Malee Greene, the 20-month-old daughter of Donricko Dariane Greene, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born April 28, 2020, in Portsmouth.

Zariah was a happy little girl with a big smile and beautiful, curly hair. She liked music and would dance as soon as she heard any song play. She was also a great little helper, using her toy cleaning supplies to pitch in and clean the house. Her favorite cartoon was CoComelon and Zariah liked the baby dolls she recently received, but she could also be rough and tumble with the boys, chasing them on her toy four-wheeler.

Zariah is survived by her father, Donricko Greene of Portsmouth; six brothers, Haidyn, Mason, Zander, Tru, Zaiden, and Zavier; four sisters, Mylee, KaMiah, Zaylah and Layonna; her Papaw & Mimi, David and Felicia Martin; her bonus Dad, Chris Robinson; and many aunts, uncles and other family members who love her dearly.
