Who was the inmate suspected of killing Andrew Lansing?​

The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified Rashawn Cannon, 27, as a suspect in the fatal attack on Lansing. Cannon was convicted of felony assault and illegally possessing a firearm in 2023. He was set to be eligible for parole in August 2030.

The Ohio Civil Service Employees Association, a labor union representing correction officers in Ohio, said Lansing had written up Cannon in April for making threats.

It's not clear whether Cannon was threatening Lansing or someone else, and Chambers-Smith did not clarify on Friday. She noted that Lansing had written a conduct report on Cannon, accusing him of disrespect, threats and disobedience of a direct order — and was found guilty of two of them.
