TULSA, Oklahoma (AP) — Four people were killed Wednesday in a shooting at a Tulsa medical building on a hospital campus, a police captain said.

Police Deputy Chief Jonathan Brooks confirmed the number of dead and said the shooter also was dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

It was unclear what prompted the deadly assault. However, the unidentified gunman fired both a handgun and a rifle during the attack, Brooks said.

St. Francis Health System locked down its campus Wednesday afternoon because of the situation at the Natalie Medical Building. The Natalie building houses an outpatient surgery center and a breast health center.

The shooting occurred shortly before 5 p.m. inside the Natalie Building at St. Francis Hospital, authorities said. The victims, whose identities have not been released, appeared to be a combination of patients and employees, Dalgleish said.

Part of the shooting appears to have occurred inside an orthopedic facility on the building's second floor, Dalgleish said.

The gunman and his motive have not been identified.

My daughter’s mother-in-law works there but left at 3:30 pm. I’ve heard some info that hasn’t been reported as of yet and as in most cases may just be rumors or misinterpreted as the info moved between people. I was highly shocked to hear this happen here but sadly not surprised anymore. Our nation has a heart problem. So so devastating.

Police confirmed that the gunman, who was armed with both a rifle and a handgun, killed four people before he turned the gun on himself.

It is not clear if the doctor the gunman targeted was among the victims.
