MUSKOGEE, OK (KTUL) — The Muskogee Police Department needs your help finding a missing person.

According to MPD, Amanda Harms, 46, has been missing since January 13.

Muskogee Public Schools confirmed Harms was an employee for the school district and provided this statement:

"We received an email from Ms. Amanda Harms' husband today at approximately 1:45 pm. Mr. Harms relayed that Ms. Harms, teacher at Muskogee Public Schools, went missing from her home on the evening of Saturday, January 13, 2024, and that she has had no contact with him since leaving on foot to visit a nearby store. Mr. Harms further shared that he had notified the police and a detective was currently investigating. Obviously, we share his concern and plan to stay in contact with the family."

If you do a search of white pages information you can find an address for Amanda Harms of the same age, a home last sold in 2022. But that address is very rural and remote, and not even close to the address where she was reported as leaving by her husband. So that may be another Amanda Harms of the same age. I couldn't find out much online that's new. Worrisome she would have left that night given the single digits and wind chills in the negative numbers. It would have made more sense to just drive, unless the car was covered in snow and she just didn't want to deal with it. So much we don't know. I'll just continue to keep her family in my prayers til she is found.

her husband emailed her job to say she was missing? Just want to understand what has been reported. I don't want to think that is really odd but...

********
Police said Amanda Harms was last seen around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13. She left on foot from the 4400 block of Denison.

Harms is 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighs 125 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a gray jacket, a black stocking cap and black and pink gloves.

*******
There is a public record of an address for her in the 4400 block of Denison. I wish we knew what store she was going to and how far it is from her home.

There's a record for someone with a matching name and birth date in Muskogee OK (which I believe is her), who was arrested for a felony DUI in November of 2023 (OSCN Party).
While I doubt this is directly related to her disappearance, there could be some background issues going on that influenced her disappearance.

I wonder if they have looked at that pond at the end of Dennison.

It could be why she was walking to a store in very cold weather, if she could no longer drive. The closest store as far as Maps can tell me is a Dollar General that's an 8-minute walk away and involves crossing the highway.

Nice find spyblond - I did some drilling down on the county court records and it was a felony DUI drugs, not alcohol. A preliminary hearing was set on January 12, the day before she went missing, to occur on March 18. At the time of her disappearance she was out on $2500 bond. Schools :: §70-6-101.22. Grounds for dismissal or nonreemployment..

Her Facebook: Amanda Harms

The post from Muskogee Police Department on their Facebook has some interesting comments:

Was she required to attend the preliminary hearing? Did she attend the prelim? Could her attorney take care of this without her having to be there? (Seems doubtful but IANAL). Could her attorney ask for a later date for the prelim and succeed in getting a later date?
Is this legal situation what made her disappear (not the right word, perhaps). SMH. Dunno what to think...

The evening of January 13 was in single digit temperatures. It seems an odd time to walk to a store in the dark.

Post is gone now.

I clicked the link and I still see the post this morning, but looking at the comments now, it appears MPD may have removed their original post with the interesting comments I noted and replaced it with a new post. Interesting...

No FB, can't see anything, can't even find the Muskogee Police Department FB page with a google search.

ETA: Can someone please post the FB link? Not hers, theirs.

well, if that's the link to the LE's page, you have to be able to log in to see so that just doesn't seem right. I can usually see police department's pages but not theirs. Oh well, plenty of other people who need help.

Her prelim is not scheduled until March. The defendant is typically present but does not have to be. The preliminary hearing typically takes place soon after charges are officially filed against the defendant. For instance, federal law requires that a preliminary hearing be held within 14 to 21 days after the defendant's initial appearance. (18 U.S.C. § 3060; Fed. R. Crim. Proc. 5.1.)

Defendants can request to "waive time," which allows the preliminary hearing to be delayed to a time convenient for all the major players in the case. Delays can benefit the defense - why it's common for defendants—on the advice of their attorneys—to agree to waive time. I would think that if such a waiver request were made it would show up in the court record timeline I linked earlier (any attorney's reading here maybe can clarify).

This link appears to say she’s been found deceased! Off to read more. There’s not much more other than they are investigating.
