Pharmacist's jurors stunned by public criticism of verdict

Three of the jurors who convicted a pharmacist of murder say they followed the law and are upset and surprised at the public outcry against the verdict.“I've had some family members that have basically stated they thought I was stupid and it was the wrong decision,” one juror said.
“I hate even watching the news for fear that I might see something about the case,” she said. “We didn't volunteer for it. We were asked to do this job and we took it very seriously.

She said the physical evidence was clear the robber was unconscious and not moving after hitting the floor. She specifically mentioned how a pool of blood beneath the robber's head was undisturbed. “Once I saw the evidence, it was a no-brainer,” she said

The man is a proven liar. I have no idea why he would expect anyone to believe a word he says at this point.

I'm sure that will make some folks quite happy

If you are referring to Websleuths folks, I don't think I've ever seen anyone here wish suffering or misery on Ersland. I have no problem with being corrected on this point, however.

No one dug into Ersland's past to discredit him. He lied about his past, and basic research revealed that he had lied about it, and THAT'S what discredited him.

Has anyone put together a list of the lies that this guy told? It might help those that do not understand why this guy's credibility has been questioned.

His interrogation tape really is a bit strange. His voice makes it sound like he is of diminished capacity. I wonder if he is on some strong pain killers for his back injury?

He was on opium based pain meds for his back.

Jerome Ersland Act' Proposed To Protect Business Owners

Local Pharmacy Increases Safety Measures After NY Pharmacy Robbery

http://www.koco.com/r/28296147/detail.html

I would totally support Jerome Ersland law. Four people who were killed in NY pharmacy robbery offered no resistance whatsoever. Now they are all dead. So we all can see that offering no resistance doesn't guarantee the survival of robbery victims at all. And yet the person like Mr. Ersland is supposed to play by the rules, or he can be convicted of first degree murder and presumably die in prison.

I have not seen anyone here, or for that matter anyone involved in discussing this case online anywhere, expressing happiness that Ersland is (supposedly) suffering in misery in jail. And I say supposedly because this is coming only from his own proven lying mouth, in defiance of a gag order on top of that.

I have not seen anyone here, or for that matter anyone involved in discussing this case online anywhere, even those who believe the verdict was correct, "rooting for" Ersland to go to jail. The prevailing sentiment I've seen expressed, which I agree with, is that there are no winners in this case.

(Not even the DA, who obviously went forward with the prosecution despite what appears to be, from everything I've read at least, substantial opposition from the public and who therefore could not possibly have been doing it for political gain.)

He is on opium based meds for his back. And they don't allow these meds in jail. You don't think he could be suffering?

I think he's probably suffering a great deal. My point was, I wouldn't believe anything he says as far as I could spit a rat.

Not even that he's suffering.

we had a jewelry store robbery this morning at my local shopping center, beyond shocking for my area! My dh lives at this Costco.
Anyway, the jewelry store employee killed 2 robbers, and a third managed to get away. Will be interesting to hear his story and see the video as it compares to this case. It is not clear if these robbers were armed.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (KABC) -- A jewelry store employee fatally shot two robbers in San Juan Capistrano Friday morning. At least one other robbery suspect got away. The robbery happened at Monaco Jewelers on the 33000 block of Doheny Park Road.

Detectives interviewed the jewelry store employees and were reviewing surveillance video from businesses in the area. Some residents said it's the second robbery in the past year and a half at the business.

Manhunt ends in aborted Orange County jewelry store robbery; two suspects dead

Orange County authorities Friday night ended an aggressive mile-square manhunt for the sole survivor in a trio of men who allegedly attempted to rob a San Juan Capistrano jewelry store only to face deadly gunfire from an employee.
<snip>

Asked if the store employee might face any charges in the shooting, he said: “At this point, it’s too early to tell.”

"Armed robberies at pharmacies rose 81 percent between 2006 and 2010, from 380 to 686, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says. The number of pills stolen went from 706,000 to 1.3 million. Thieves are overwhelmingly taking oxycodone painkillers like OxyContin or Roxicodone, or hydrocodone-based painkillers like Vicodin and Norco. Both narcotics are highly addictive."

1) I don't believe anyone here has stated that offering no resistance in a robbery guarantees anyone anything. If I'm incorrect, I apologize in advance and would appreciate a link to a post.

2) Respectfully snipped from your post:
And yet the person like Mr. Ersland is supposed to play by the rules, or he can be convicted of first degree murder and presumably die in prison.

I'm not sure I understand what you're stating here, in particular I'm not sure what you mean by "the person like Mr. Ersland."

Regardless, aren't all persons supposed to play by the rules or they can be convicted of an appropriate charge relating to their "rule breaking?" If the rules are the law, then Mr. Ersland did NOT play by them.

So, yes, a person like Mr. Ersland, a person who chose to unnecessarily, repeatedly shoot an immobilized person, is indeed supposed to play by the rules, or he can suffer the known and likely consequences of choosing not to do so.

This is not case of a robbery victim fighting back, seeking help, and then being prosecuted due to his fighting back.

This is a case of a robbery victim fighting back, becoming the aggressor illegally, seeking help, lying, falsifying evidence of injury, and being prosecuted due to that.

And Ersland's lies continue to be revealed:

Jerome Jay Ersland, 59, of Chickasha, has worn a back brace for years and has been prescribed powerful medication for pain. He told the police and news media he suffers from an inoperable back injury.

X-rays of his back were taken after he was incarcerated at Oklahoma County jail May 26. A radiologist who examined the X-rays reported none of his vertebrae were fractured, sources told The Oklahoman.

The doctor concluded Ersland has modest osteoarthritis of the spine, The Oklahoman learned. That is a condition men about his age often endure.

Also, medical workers at the jail reported seeing Ersland walking a hall there, at times, without his back brace. A nurse reported seeing Ersland, while without his brace, pick something up off the floor without problem.

I thought that video showed him running out of that pharmacy awfully fast for a man claiming to have such severe back problems.

Good thing he's in prison. Hope he gets shanked soon and dies alone on the floor. That's what people like him deserve. Those four young men certainly did the world a huge favor when they revealed this liar for what he is.
