OK - "Bullcrap" congressman cancels town hall due to "safety concerns"

I think it would depend upon whether or not he is taking a salary from his business.

I bet most of the politicians with businesses have it set up that they receive dividends from their companies, can be done even for privately-owed companies.

I am disappointed that so many officials refuse to meet with constituents. I don't think there are safety issues as many town halls have the ability to scan attendees. Too many politicians don't represent their constituents interests but, rather, they are beholden to their party. Whether the constituents are Tea partiers or progressives, politicians must realize that they must find ways to speak to all who they REPRESENT. People are loud because they are screaming to be heard.

The meeting I attended did not scan but wasn't held at the town hall which would have been too small. In larger areas the town hall might accommodate the size of the crowd, but in many rural areas meetings need to be held elsewhere.

In Oklahoma the formula has long been God, guns, and gays: run strongly in favor of the first two and opposed to the third and you're a sure bet.

What were politicians like there when Dems had a large margin?

Ziriax said the two major political parties are closer to parity than at any time since the state Election Board began compiling statewide voter registration data in 1960, when Democrats outnumbered Republicans 82 percent to 17.6 percent.

In 1980, it was 75.8 percent Democratic and 22.8 percent Republican. In 2000, it was 56.7 percent Democratic and 35 percent Republican.

They weren't slender-witted apologists clamoring for Right to Work statutes back then; now, it's public policy; and, yearly, inane anti-Constitutional proposals which cost the state millions to litigate pock the public agenda.

The electorate is weakened by an educational system which has for years been at the bottom of the funding barrel.

GMAFB--we spend an ENORMOUS amount of money on education and our kids do much worse in testing than kids in other countries. So glad BIG changes are being made in our education system.

The people who have run our country for decades are either idiots or evil. My guess is evil.

We just had an 11-point drop in average score for math and we rank 31st in math literacy. SMDH.

One break coming up! Am I in opposite land right now? lol Oklahoma consistently ranks in the lowest 3 spots of the entire nation in education. I think we're 48th right now. Our education budget is constantly being cut and many of our schools are only open 4 days per week with many more schools struggling about whether or not to make that decision because they can't afford to keep them open for 5 days a week. Our teachers are fleeing Oklahoma in DROVES because the state can't afford to pay them what they're worth. Good teachers! Recent college graduates with education degrees are getting the hell out of here so they can earn a livable salary!

This thread is about Oklahoma's Markwayne Mullin and his poor behavior, along with others here who are refusing to have town halls. We have a ton of problems and constituents deserve to have their questions addressed. Our Republican state leaders are wasting time and money on introducing stupid bills like making divorce more difficult and putting the 10 Commandments back at the Capitol building. (the thing has a misspelling in it too, but we're too dumb to notice.) The constant earthquakes don't even matter. We don't want to do anything that might affect oil & gas! But we do have the biggest, most elaborate churches. The pastors live in mansions and preach how they deserve the wealth.

This state is the buckle of the bible belt and continues to vote against its best interests. Oh, and the people Markwayne Mullin was yelling at? Yeah, the rural geriatric set are a terrifying bunch. Enough to cancel all town halls definitely.
