GUILTY OK - Christopher Lane, 22, Australian, slain in thrill killing, Duncan, 16 Aug 2013

Honestly I think all of this is being focused on because the victim is Australian and this is causing an international stir with foreign journalists taking an interest in it.

If it had been an American guy killed like this? No big deal, likely a robbery attempt, back page story move along there is nothing to see here etc... Just like the Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom murders were a back page story for the American public at large.

I think so, too. But whatever it takes to get it out in the open I'm happy for. I think we're very close to a tipping point where if the issue continues to be taboo, there will be no room for discussion and possible solution within a very short time. I sense that people are getting mightily fed up. jmo

I just can't do another case centered around race. I can't.

I'm not saying that's happening here (I don't think it is) but that's what the media seems to be trying to shove down our throats and I can't do it again. So, I am going to back away from this case. I hope Chris gets justice (whatever that may mean when you're dead by the hand of another...).
I agree, as much as what was tweeted by them this was a killing of opportunity IMO, if it had been a black jogger he would be dead too. IMO There is a good chance we wouldn't have heard much about it though IMO

So wouldn't it be wise for the White House to make a statement about it? To make sure ties with Australia are not strained? Instead they say they aren't "familiar" with the case? :waitasec:

Chief: Teens were ‘fake gangsters’ trying to raise status Mike Smith 08/22/2013 7:25 PM

Snipped:
But Ford and Stephens County District Attorney Jason Hicks said they have no evidence the teens — aged 15, 17 and 17 — actually belonged to a known gang and Hicks said to his knowledge there was no gang activity in Stephens County.
“They were wannabes from what they displayed,” Ford said. “They were individuals who liked attention and once they began portraying themselves as those types of individuals who might want to be in a gang — a wannabe type person — then they began to try to convince other people they were.”

It still bothers me why they chose that specific neighborhood, though. If the neighborhood is diversified, then I'd definitely go with random opportunity.

For discussion the rules are very simple. Stick to the facts of the case as we know it for now and don't post anything you know will irritate others. There is not much of a mystery here because one of the suspects is talking and we know why they did it. They were bored. They have our attention, now what are we going to do about it as a nation. jmo

The gang activity is definite. Maybe the chief is afraid bc they're such a small town and this attention is unsettling. Maybe the chief is speaking to the larger crowd to put the racial debate at rest bc the media frenzy over this issue is all over the place. It might just be Chief Ford's way of attempting to speak responsibly. The DA just said they don't have evidence.

IMO and all that.

We also have msm of the 15 yo's sister saying the "motive" provided makes no sense. And we know that the person who provided the "motive" isn't the shooter. So I wouldn't say we "know" why the shooter did it. jmo

I doubt seriously if this is the only thing the suspect said. Someone did shoot the dog first, right. So there were no surprises that there was a gun in the car. You can speculate all you want just do so responsibly. Thanks

Lamb chop I always love your posts, but honestly as a nation who could do nothing over sandy hook this minor incident, everyday occurrence in America (compared to that) while being forever ingrained in the tapestry that is American life .... no one will do anything EVER IMO

I thought that James Edwards threw the dog out the window of a moving car and killed it? Was it shot?

Ya lost me. I agree, there's no surprise there was a gun in the car. I was talking about the motive and that we don't know what it was based on just by Jones' statement that it was boredom. Actually, I think motive is one of only two things to speculate on at this point -- the other being how Jones got involved. His location, the fact that he had a car and a license, etc. jmo

Excellent question, Lamb.

Thanks Lambykins! :blowkiss:

It is still difficult to discuss the facts of the case, since the Facts do seem to irritate others. So, I promise to tread lightly, as I don't want this thread to be closed. I think the dialog about this crime is important. :twocents:

American, Canadian, don't care the day we accepted those children getting killed is the day that we turned into the world that we espouse against and fought against so valiantly and go to war over. We let them get away with it every day and so do we here IMO

I'm trying to disseminate fact from misinformation. If the dog was shot, where was it shot? Did anybody hear a gunshot? After all, the chief just said to his knowledge there's no gang activity in Stephens County so maybe somebody would think a gunshot would stand out. I don't have guns bc I'm afraid of them, but I'm trained to use one bc I was forced to learn. I know how loud they are. I also know the difference in sound between a gunshot and a shotgun, so on & so forth.

For instance...if the dog was shot in a neighborhood or apartment complex, and nobody reported the gunshot being heard, then it lends to the don't ask don't tell attitude of people that could be fearful.

If the dog was shot, I wonder if it was practice for bigger things. Scary thought.

We need to ask ourselves why we ignore so much of the lyrics that pound into our childrens heads from rappers whose message is about hate, rage, killing police, disrespecting women, etc.

Why are these billionaire "artists" feted by politicans and treated like royalty when they celebrate Gansta culture? Why do we want those messages droned into childrens heads breeding hate and violence?
