Another one that springs to mind is the trio of teens in Serbia was it, or Russia (?), who beat a homeless man to death with a hammer, filmed themselves doing it and posted it on You Tube.
I wonder if there is a way to detect those wanting to "thrill kill" and prevent it from happening? Did these boys tell people about this desire beforehand? Did other cases have any warning signs?
I read a book about Leopold and Loeb years ago. I don't remember reading that they shared their dark secret with anyone else.

Listen to this chick... I understand emotions are running high but for real - why the he!! is she freakishly yelling I'LL KILL YA'LL? I mean seriously now? Isn't this case dreadful enough? There no excuse for that, the kids were just charged with murder! Also, a couple mothers are shown.

Oh I think they did in their twitter account postings and that online video pointing a shotgun and flashing gang signs.I would think they would show red flags at the very least.
Wonder who the woman in the blue shirt is. First, she's trying to calm the screaming girl who's saying get the video out of her mama's face (paraphrased). Then the woman in the blue shirt is saying she knows it was wrong for him to "be there" but *something I can't make out.* We know she's not the mother of Luna and, if the reports regarding Edwards mother are true, it can't be her either. jmo

Black power, huh? Yeah great...kill a random tourist, get yourselves locked up till you're elderly and give every white supremacist an excuse to abuse your entire race. Well done, that really sticks it to the man.
Could somebody tell me how to post a YouTube video so that it shows up & all a person has to do is press play...instead of just the link?
The board is supposed to automatically recognize the full youtube link and display the video. Sometimes that does not happen. I use the youtube link that actually says "youtube" in it. Often it will not appear on preview but will on the post, and sometimes it just won't.
Well, the accurate report of what caused the 17 yo to break down in court was him learning that he faced a LONG sentence. That seems more consistent with him facing 45 years than 10 for being involved in "murder for fun" -- or maybe he really did think he'd get a slap on the wrist since he didn't pull the trigger himself. Unfortunately, that wouldn't necessarily be an unwarranted conclusion given what some criminals get away with in this country. Especially if they're minors.
My guess is that they gave him youthful offender status because he wasn't the shooter; confessed; agreed to testify against the other two; possibly isn't so far gone down the criminal path that there's some chance he can turn it around; and maybe he showed some remorse. In other words, a combination of factors, with maybe some suggesting that he's not a completely lost cause at the age of 17. Not to mention that, having snitched on the other two, he's likely a dead man walking whether or not he goes to prison. Personally, I don't care if he gets 45 years or more. I'm just theorizing on why he may have been charged differently. jmo
What about a youthful offender that is being tried in adult court? I'm asking bc media is informing he can get up to 45 years.
It looks like the max sentence under the youthful offender act is 10 years. Nowhere, does it say 45 years. If he was a first time offender, couldn't read at a certain level, admitted his crime, and some other criteria, they are required under the Youthful Offender Law to do certain things. They can later "certify" him as a Youthful Offender or change it to adult charges.
I think I have this right. We need a lawyer in the house. :scared:
Hoping he gets more than 10 years max!!! That is ridiculous! :twocents:

From Link:
A court may defer delinquency proceedings for 180 days for any youth that has not been previously adjudicated delinquent, is currently charged with a misdemeanor, submits a guilty plea, and if the youth and their parent or legal guardian agree to participate in a court-approved alternative program for first-time offenders.15
The educational needs of any child under 18 years of age must be identified within 72 hours of detention or arrest, regardless of whether the child is subject to adult prosecution, youthful offender proceedings, or juvenile proceedings.
What Oklahoma Law Says:
Oklahoma's Youthful Offender Act11 has provided a blended sentencing option from the criminal and juvenile court since 1998. Based upon age and offense criteria, youth offenders transferred to criminal court may file a motion for certification as a youthful offender.
Upon conviction of a crime as a youthful offender, the court may impose a sentence not to exceed the amount possible for an adult criminal conviction or 10 years, whichever is less.
IANAL but perhaps it's a max of 10 years per charge? The judge was quoted as saying that MJ could get up to 45 years. Then again, the reporting in this case has been riddled with errors.
