If Daryn's car was somewhat new and we all know it takes a while to receive plates in the mail, could it be that the front license plate wasn't removed, but simply never attached to begin with?

Also, I don't know how it is in other states but here in CA they don't really search out cars missing the front plate- it's a law but low on the totem pole, KWIM? So it's not guaranteed that if he hasn't put the front plate on yet, he would have been cited for that. Some people try to keep them off in order to drive through things like toll booths without the front plate being caught on camera. This could be for a couple reasons: usually to avoid payment, but possibly something else for Daryn now that I think about it... Maybe that front plate was removed/not installed purposely to fly under the radar more clearly.

If you drive through a toll booth with a missing tag and without paying then a picture is taken of the vehicle.

Oh, goodness. I just remembered that I never got back to reviewing RF pix. Steadfast, I'm falling down on the job.

Where did we leave off with that project? We'd both thought one of them looked like Daryn, but we had to eliminate it because of hairline, right? Plus, that dude had a beard which looked pretty real, and I don't think Daryn would have had time to grow a full beard since the wedding. He's clean-shaven in the wedding pix.

I'll try my best to get back to reviewing those pictures later this evening.

Meanwhile...back at the ranch...mytee is a very bad mouse and a very bad daughter. In the melee of this case, I totally forgot that my daddy had carpal tunnel surgery today!!!! [Stomps away saying, "Bad mouse! No cookies for you!!!"]

Just curious. Are there any pictures of Daryn with his gf around? Don't know if I've seen any.

You might check to see if some of these stations or rest stops would allow you to fax a missing person poster for them to post. I know there are many good truckers out there who keep an eye open for missing people.

They do that, fabvab! My husband and I used to own a small trucking company. Truckers are the best in situations like this. Thanks for the tip! I'll pass it on to the family!!!

I'm a newbie here and I found this case really intriguing so I thought I'd contribute.

I haven't seen any posts here showing a map of the exact location where the vehicle was found. After some careful research, I think that I've located the spot:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=45.4109,-121.5706%20(Zig_Zag_Trailhead)

Here is more information on the Zig Zag Trail:

The names of the trails above are inaccurate. Dawn River Trail is actually "Dog River Trail" and Surveyor's Bridge Trail is "Surveyor's Ridge Trail".

WELCOME! :) Thanks for the updates on the names of the trails. :)

I'm a little skittish about the 3rd person reporting. That's why I don't have Daryn driving his brother back to Del City for a backpack -- it came through a third party, not through LE, MSM, or someone who was there. It starts getting into the territory of rumor. Even if the stepmom posts that it happened, she only knows because someone else told her. On the other hand, I don't look at it as MY timeline. What do folks think?

It was verified to me by family, if that helps. SHC is handling more of the "media" stuff; "Dad" is handling the boots-on-the-ground stuff, to the best of my knowledge. But it's ya'll's call either way.

Do people even carjack 6-year-old, orange Dodge Nitros? Not a popular car to steal and not a good choice for stealth driving.

If someone was carjacking a car out of panicked necessity, then any ole car would do if opportunity presented itself though, no?

I am not seeing any marked points either...except for noted landmarks.

OK...Good....So I can go cancel my optometrist appointment then. :floorlaugh:

Bbm

That's one of the reasons I think it wasn't a car jacking. But then, everyone's arguments are very compelling at this stage, even though they're all different!

They are, aren't they?! Color me confuzzled.

You were two minutes late. We are docking your pay!!!

But where's the panicked necessity? Was there a nearby robbery? Has a parolee disappeared from the Job Corps? I don't think the Job Corps is a jail exactly. There's just no evidence that a panicked person was out on that road so desperate to get to Oregon that he/she would take a very noticeable car.
On another note, would someone willing to steal a car leave a closed suitcase in that car without riffling through it? Would he/she then close it back up?

Hmmm...good question. Not that I've seen anyway, no.

I wonder if Daryn had a "personalized" license plate.

My friends in Oklahoma who had "personalized" license plates had to keep their "original" Oklahoma license plate in the trunk of their car. It was about 17 yrs. ago, so I don't know if this is still in effect or not.

If he had a personalized plate...then this might account for the plate found in the car.

Also...I think it is a rather common thing for people to say license "plates" when in fact they are referring to just a single plate. This might account for the police statement concerning "plates".

Thanks, AVeritas re heads up on the correction of the names.

OK. Back to Steadfast's question about input on the timeline. In light of the fact that even family is having a hard time keeping specifics pin-point accurate, I'm going in the, "Let's keep the timeline strictly for MSM/LE information only" column, although I have to say that, having seen some of mistakes MSM has made lately, just adding their info is pushing it! But hey, we've got rocks and sticks to work with now, so we need to add that info at least.

ETA: This looks like a good time to state that I've told family that after the last questions submitted to them, I won't be submitting any more until there's new developments. They need a break, and there's not really anything more they can provide, especially if we are treating their information/verification as "third party." And that's cool with me, and I fully understand why it may be prudent to go that route. So I'll post any answers I get from that list when I get answers, and then we'd best get a road trip to OR and OK together to camp out on MSM's doorsteps so we can get answers.

Unless maybe they were going to haul other stuff back with them?? Like a bike? Or maybe it was a crime of opportunity? Although the color, well, that stands out! And the Dodge Nitro? That stands out.....
Really carjacking that color and that kind of a car is just asking to get caught....but yet, they didn't get caught....
Good point. But what can this hypothetical carjacker be thinking. Would he/she really be thinking, "Hey, I think I'll grab this attention-getting car." I mean, that could be on a segment of "Are You Stupider Than Jodi Arias?"

Sorry. Just making sure. Bobbles was contacting his sources in Oregon media and LE.

Thanks, Treelights! Other than the hurt feelings over his eldest forgetting he was having surgery today, I think he'll be okay. (And I'm sure just as soon as that hand heals mytee will be written out of the will! lol)
