I found some court records when I first read about his being missing here, but since none were recent didn't link, as I wasn't sure they were relevent, and it seemed more likely given the vehicle accident, that he had perhaps a head injury and wandered off. But this article has a lot more information and the fact that witnesses stated he went into the woods upon seeing law enforcement was a red flag for me.

His prior court history, and a sentence of 5 years for DUI then, and another conviction after he served time, may indicate why he left when the police arrived. That and his car found elsewhere later MIGHT indicate he is missing, as opposed to seriously injured or deseased as a result of the accident and then wandering off into the woods. All my opinion, but it answered one of the questions the article raised.
