Yes this is exciting news. Maybe just to see if DNA matches anyone in Codis or matches Hart.

I have also seen where I think they can generate a computer "sketch" of a person just based on DNA now. Unless I saw it wrong I could have sworn I saw another case where they had a picture generated and all they had was DNA.

For this testing I bet they are just going to check it against Hart and any others they have DNA from. If Hart did not give his DNA they may be able to get familiar DNA from relative possibly. Or maybe one of his belongings they may have.

No matter what they are doing it is exciting and I give them credit for trying. Hope it gives results.

"Whether Reed hopes to confirm a link to the formerly accused Hart or make another match, he won’t say. But he hopes he can at last provide answers to the victims’ survivors, who have kept the girls’ story alive."

They've already done DNA testing of some evidence 3 times in the past. The last time it was a fairly close, but not complete match to Hart. I think this new test is more detailec, maybe they'll try the test you're referring to. Anything helps!

After 41 years, wouldn't any perps/accomplices be very elderly or dead?

Even if by some miracle the DNA testing being done currently is a match to Hart, at least that will be put to bed. We will still wonder if he had help, but just an answer to that question will bring some peace to the people who've lived this mystery for so long.

Now that I think about it, the investigators mentioned in some of last summer's 40th anniversary news articles that they were collecting funds for this test. They couldn't get government to budget the money for it, so glad to see the raised enough. I'll have to go back to look at those articles to see what kind of test they're doing.

I personally feel there was more than one perp. If the perp(s) was late teens to early 20’s, he could be early 60’s today. That’s not necessarily “very elderly.” Of course the perp could’ve been significantly older. And yes, could be dead. It would be nice to have answers. Nicer still would be to have someone to bring to justice.

I confirmed that DNA technology does exist to do what I was saying about able to generate a sketch just from DNA. By chance I was watching an episode of "Killing Fields" last night on I think Discovery channel. They had on an episode where a company called "Parabon Nanolabs" did just what I was remembering. They were able to produce a computer sketch and age progression photo of a suspect just from DNA sample. It really is amazing and the episode explained the process really well.

The case was about Carrie Singer and its a multi part series and this particular episode focused on the sketch technology.

Check out the latest posts here. I believe this is what you were explaining. This is too cool!

Yes, I was reading about GLH's defense earlier, Isaac's remarks. I've always really liked Wilma Mankiller(sp?), lot of respect for her. I think they just got bamboozled by Isaacs.

Reading more about the Duffields. They seem to have a really violent & criminal history in that family. The sexual crimes are pretty startling. Jimmy Bryan's family seemed ok, at least the dad seemed like a good guy. Jimmy himself was just 16 when he was killed. WD, who killed Jimmy, was 23, so he was hanging out with a pretty wild crowd. Would love to find out who the others were in that group. Supposedly, they gave police quite a chase and Jesse Darryl Duffield pulled a .22 on the police. I assume they had access to a car, I wonder what kind it was? I think of that car sitting parked outside Camp Scott that Ranger Ben saw when he left to pick up his daughter at work. He said it was gone when he came back.

ETA: I've also been wondering about Mr. Bryan's comment saying Jimmy said he knew one of the girls that were killed. I checked and the Bryans, like the Duffields, lived near Tahlequa. That's about 70+ miles from Tulsa. How would a 16 yo kid know any of those girls when they lived so far away? It doesn't make sense. Maybe he saw a local girl being interviewed on tv, someone from Locust Grove or something.

As a youth Hart belonged to a gang that was known for "random rapes". I wonder who was also in this gang? I wonder If those individuals [perps] "mentored" these dirtbags.

Did Locust Grove had a high school back then?
Was there any chance that some kids were from that neighbourhood were going to school in Tulsa?

How could you know know what kind of shoes he liked to wear?
All high school kids are wearing sneakers cause they have to.

It was discovered through evidence collection, that one of the footprints left had a wavy tread pattern. It was determined that this pattern was from some type of "jungle Boot". As a former Cub and Boy scout, it was not uncommon to purchase military surplus equipment to supplement the Scouting packing list for campouts. One must remember that the Boy Scout camp was down the way. Encounters with the Girl Scouts and their counselors would have bound to happen. This is not taking into account meeting "locals" not affiliated with any organization [camps] would have been commonplace, considering the region. Also, one of the footprints was measured to be a size "8". Rather small for a grown man and not the size of Hart's footprint which was a size "11". I can't reconcile one and only one person committing the crimes. Two or more yes. I believe Hart was there, but who else was with him? Family, young friends or both?

What about Karl Myers?? She was linked to two murders. And the sheriff said that he got a confession: "John Russell believes Myers was also the man who molested and murdered three girl scouts at a camp near Locust Grove in 1977. He's making a movie called "Candles" about the murders. Russell said Myers confessed to him when they were both in jail together in the late 1970s. Some argue Russell's criminal history takes away his credibility."

Prosecutor of Gene Leroy Hart in the Camp Scott case dies at 81.

Obit: Ronald Shaffer

John Russell is actually John Russell Penn and is a con man and convicted felon who came up with the idea that Karl Myers killed these girls. Not only that, John Russell Penn has also confessed to killing the girls, along with several others.

40 Years After 3 Girl Scouts Were Killed at Camp, Police Hope DNA Will Reveal Their Killer

With $30,000 raised locally last year by Mayes County Sheriff Mike Reed, surviving evidence from the crime scene is undergoing DNA testing that Reed thinks may reveal a forensic profile of the killer that was unavailable four decades ago.
.......................................

I wonder if there will be any updates on that for the 41st anniversary?

Also - this dates back to February, but am posting here, the father of victim Michele Guse died that month in 2018:

Dear MaryG12,

Thank you for sharing this news.

Hopefully the DNA will provide the long-awaited answers.

Thank you MaryG12 for the news article concerning the father of Michele Guse.

Mr. Guse certainly dedicated his life to easing the pain of others. The article is a beautiful tribute to him.

Excerpt from the article you posted:

"Dick Guse served as the first chairman of the Oklahoma Victims’ Compensation Committee afterward, and later, he was recognized for serving on that board for 22 years, from its inception in 1981 to 2003, tirelessly working to make sure no other family members had to go through what he did, from finding out via television that his daughter had been murdered, to struggling with getting her body back for a funeral."

I grew up in Tulsa. I still believe GLH committed this crime. But if the DNA says otherwise, I will believe it.

I agree. All the evidence, his location, his past violent sex crimes, problems with eyesight and stealing glasses, etc. fit him. In recent years, I've come to think he may have had an accomplice, possibly someone younger. One of his relatives, who was an older teen at the time and lived nearby was later accused of rape and incest. From what I could find, he still lives in the area.

JMO, I theorize that some of GLH's relatives went to the local sheriff and gave info about where GLH was hiding in exchange for them not pressing charges against the younger relative.

This case is one that really shocked me that I had only ever heard about, maybe two years ago. To see the pictures of those poor, innocent girls. Just going to camp to have fun for the summer. So tragic.
From what I have read, it does sound like GLH could be the murderer, but I guess we may never know. Too bad they didn’t have security cameras back then. Does anyone know if they use security cameras now at some camps?
