“Kirsten may have been targeted by Palma for sexual assault,” Probable cause affidavit reveals more details on 18-year-old case

After a meeting between Midwest City Police, Oklahoma State Bureau of Invsetigations and the FBI, investigators realized some evidence from 1997 had never been tested.

"The original analysis of the blood that was found in Kirsten Hatfield's panties and also the blood on the windowsill inside her bedroom window is that there were specific genetic profiles that were similar in nature, however the chemist could not say they were both one in the same," Clabes said.

~Snip~

"The blood sample from Kirsten Hatfield's panties and also the blood on the windowsill matched Anthony Palma," Clabes said. "The match was one and 293 sextillion."

"Kirsten may have been targeted by Palma for sexual assault," according to court documents. "It is likely that Palma has been motivated to stay in the same home to conceal evidence of the crime and or the location of Kirsten's body"

Nearly perfect DNA match found in cold case murder of Kirsten Hatfield

Investigators say back in 1997, Palma's DNA wasn't in the national DNA database that helps solve so many crimes.
He wasn't really on officers' radar back then either.

Recently, investigators decided to go back out and re-interview all those original male suspects in the case, mostly men who lived in Hatfield's Midwest City neighborhood.

They all agreed to DNA testing, even Palma, who's now sitting in jail.

"In July of this year, we received a report from OSBI that indicated the blood sample from Kirsten Hatfield's panties, and also the blood in the window sill matched Anthony Palma, and the match was 1 in 293 sextillion," Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said.

That's nearly a perfect match.

MWC Police Hope Arrest Will Lead To More Answers In Disappearance Case

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma - For 18 years, Kirsten Hatfield's family and friends have wondered what happened the night the 8-year-old disappeared from her bedroom.
Investigators believe the arrest of Anthony Palma may give police the answers they've searched for, for so long.

~Snip~

This summer, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation lab finally found a match.

“In July of this year, we received a report from OSBI that indicated the blood sample from Kirsten Hatfield's panties and also the blood on the windowsill matched Anthony Palma," Midwest City police Chief Brandon Clabes said.

For the next several weeks, investigators watched Palma from afar.

They even applied for a search warrant and a wiretap on Palma's phone.

But something changed last weekend and it caused investigators to speed up their plan.

“We've had him under surveillance. We felt very confident with our game plan. We did accelerate it this weekend for unspecified reasons,” Clabes said.

Court documents: DNA match found in Midwest City cold case

Palma was arrested on complaints of first-degree murder and kidnapping. He has been transferred to Oklahoma County Jail.

~Snip~

Investigators said they believe Palma targeted Hatfield for sexual assault. They said evidence supported that claim, including his blood being on her partially ripped underwear and her window sill.

~Snip~

Midwest City police are continuing to investigate the case, and say there could possibly be additional suspects. Investigators said Palma had been under their surveillance for some time.

So there could be others involved? He wasn't married at the time of the abduction. Something he said or did after they started the surveillance made them suspect others?

Has anyone determined if Palma was connected with the mother's 'friend' or is he the friend?

Still catching up, thanks!

I'm going to be super surprised if there was more than one man's blood in her bedroom...

If he disposed of her body inside the home, how could his wife not know? Hope they find her remains and nail this SOB.

All of these articles say that he didn't get married until 1999.

It was mentioned he had done some work at her house, but that blurb was on the news and sounded like they haven't determined the truth of that yet.

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. —Two medical examiners are at the home of a man who police say kidnapped and killed a Midwest City girl was reported missing in 1997.

Investigators are thoroughly searching Palma's home. KOCO reporters can hear drilling and what sounds like boards being removed from Palma's house.

~Snip~

Authorities have taken down all the trees in Palma's yard, too.

~Snip~

Police said Palma is no longer speaking with authorities. Midwest City police say there could be multiple suspects.

Multiple suspects. That is a very interesting tid bit of information coming from LE. Do they think he had help? Do they think there was someone or even more than one involved after he kidnapped her? Did he have help to dispose of her? Where do multiple suspects even fit with the scenario of he went over in the middle of the night and kidnapped her for a sexual assault?

A look at Anthony Palma: Who is the man arrested for Kirsten Hatfield’s murder?

His wife, who married him after Hatfield disappeared, said “Tony still gets upset about the case when it is mentioned.”

~Snip~

He has been a groundskeeper at Lake Thunderbird State Park since 2001.

Palma denied any involvement in the case but consented to a DNA swab.

~Snip~

“He was a family man, went to work every day, came home, helped the kids with bikes, go-carts. You know he was just a typical good guy,” said Summers, Jr.

~Snip~

A woman named Lisa lives in the home where Kirsten Hatfield used to live.

She does not know the family and did not know what had happened in that house before she moved in.

She also knows Palma, and says he fixed her a meal when she was sick and would help her take care of her yard.
“This has just totally floored me,” said Lisa.

~Snip~

Palma served one and a half years of a five year sentence for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon out of Cotton County back in 1985, but has had a clean record since then.

Before working at Lake Thunderbird, he worked at State Capitol Park.

He would have been working there at the time of Hatfield’s disappearance.

Possibly lots of clues in this article. I find it creepy that he fixed a meal for the woman living in the crime scene house and took care of her yard. Is this perhaps how he learned about Kirsten back in 1997? Was he being a "good neighbor"?

He worked at the State Capital. There is a shot of him in the news planting trees. Could her body buried on State Capital property? Anything is possible at this point.

The DNA only tells part of the story and there is no way he is talking now he has an attorney.
