Son Taking on Mother's Cold Case

A teenage boy is taking on his mother's cold case. Almost 15 years ago 18 year old Joannie Goodwin went missing in Pawhuska. Now her son has had enough and wants answers.

15 year old Bobby N. is a normal teenage boy. He has a girlfriend, he plays basketball and he can't wait to get his driver's license. With all that being said, he is the child of a cold case.

Now he's ready to solve his mother's murder.

"Her body was disposed of in a creek they found her in a blouse and she was bound by wire," says Bobby.

Goodwin went missing on September 22, 1996 her body was found in Bird Creek a week later. She had multiple shotgun wounds and was tied up by barbed wire. Through the 14 years there have been many persons of interest and tips, but no solid evidence

OSAGE COUNTY -- A cold case in Osage County is getting a fresh perspective from the victim's child.

Bobby N. was only seven months old when his mother was murdered in Pawhuska in 1996.

"I think the least I deserve is the truth," Neighbors said.

Bobby N. can't talk to his mother, Joannie Goodwin, anymore.

"I have never even had the chance to tell my mom I love her," he said.

He's reaching out to her killer instead.

"You took my mom's life over 14 years ago and everything we could have been together," he said.

PAWHUSKA — A 15-year-old Osage County homicide is back in the news as a result of efforts by the victim’s teenage son to find answers about the murder of his mother — a woman whom he was deprived of the opportunity of ever getting to know.

Bobby N., who is now a high school freshman, was only 7 months old when his mother, Joannie Ann Goodwin, was brutally slain and her body dumped into Bird Creek in September 1996.

The 15-year-old Wynona High School student has an inquisitive nature which includes the burning desire to know answers about the heinous crime which long ago robbed him of the woman who gave him life.

Goodwin had been out with two young men the night she vanished on Sept. 22, when a rally had drawn thousands of bikers to Pawhuska.

The truck in which the three had been riding broke down, and the men went to find jumper cables, said Osage County Sheriff Ty Koch. While they were gone, Goodwin got out and started walking. She was not seen alive again, except by her killer or killers.

Seems like whomever did this had quite a bit of time and access to several things to do this. Someone local ?

I would like to know who these two young men were and if they were ever considered suspects ? And who told LE that she got out and started walking if these two men had already left for jumper cables, The jolly green giant ?

One other thing that irks me, though comes as no suprise from this article, is that Koch the sherriff has been waiting on analysis of physical evidence sent to, guess who, OSBI for this case since 2008 ! Really, OSBI needs to pull their head out or find the money to catch up their backlog of cases, they are horrible imho, seems many cases are waiting on them and by many I mean hundreds.

From the comments below in this article, (Janet 8:13 AM Mar 10) talks about remembering about this murder and that there was another murder that happened around the same time in the same county that was never solved, rumors were flying at the time it was believed to be the same person who commited both murders, fwiw:

On Facebook, he created a page in his mother's name, Joannie Goodwin, and uses it to address her killer. In a month, it has attracted about 600 followers and dozens of comments and recollections from friends of Goodwin's.

Reading this breaks my heart. That poor boy . I hope he finds answers one day.

Murder-case suspect booked in Osage jail

Osage County authorities last Friday brought to Pawhuska from Texas a woman suspected of murder in connection with a 1996 killing.

The television program “Cold Justice” assisted the Osage County Sheriff’s Office in the re-investigation of the case.

A suspect identified as Cherri Dawn Miller-Terry, 48, was booked Friday at the Osage County Jail on suspicion of murder. The booking data gave a clarified version of her name. She had previously been identified as Cherri Brooks Miller and as Cherri Terry.

Miller-Terry is a suspect in the September 1996 death of Joannie Goodwin, 18. There has been some variance in the age given for Goodwin in news reports, with some listing 18 years of age and others 19. Life dates available for her, however, were Nov. 1977 to September 1996, which would have made her 18 at the time of her death.
