I should add, that I'm not implying that local LE is corrupt. Afterall, all it takes is one bad apple to put the pressure on someone. :/

You wouldn't get much of an argument from most Oklahomans in the eastern third of the state if you suggested that LE was corrupt there. (This is an understatement.)

Ignorance is bliss (and I'm quite blissful!). I do have to say that I was surprised to read that the dispatcher for the Heavener PD was kept on after she was charged. (Coincidentally, her husband is a police officer with the PD, if what I read is correct.) Not sure that would fly here in my neck of the woods! On the otherhand, I find it difficult to believe that all of those small towns are supposed to have their own police department. They must get overwhelmed at times. Is this unique to OK?...or is it common in other states? Here in Ontario (and other parts of the frozen north) small cities might have their own PD, but towns would rely on the provincial police, where you could leverage resources and special skills.

Almost all towns and cities, at least in OK, have their own police departments, and I think that's common to most other states as well. Some very small towns and unincorporated areas rely entirely on their county sheriff's offices for LE coverage. All cities, towns, and counties are free to summon state LE when the need arises.

Though Jody Rilee-Wilson's case is not mentioned - did the OSBI do any work on this case at all? can't remember - NewsOn6's OK Impact team just published an absolutely devastating assault on OSBI's failure to solve difficult cases, and refutes their case-cleared numbers dramatically. We in OK have waited for years to read something like this:
OSBI's Track Record Investigated After Criticism From Lawmaker

If you've followed any of the many open OK cases, this is a must-read:

Time to explore some of my 'other' theories (although all of these I personally believe are less likely than my main theory...which is pretty much what most other sleuthers' main theory is).

I'll start with the Heavener dispatcher prescription fraud theory. I will actually broaden this theory beyond this specific reference, since the individual charged with prescription fraud is likely not involved in any way with Jody's death.

Instead, I will pose it this way: Is it possible that the outsider from New Jersey, Jody, stumbled across a crime and reported it? Perhaps she stepped on some toes, including those of local LE. An outsider shouldn't stick their nose in other peoples' business, right? Would it then be possible that Jody's local relatives (i.e. husband and family) were told in no uncertain terms that she had stepped over the line and that she would be dealt with. They had better keep their mouths shut, or else they might come to the same fate as Jody. Possible? Again, this is a long shot, but all alternatives must be considered, no?

Snoopster, do you remember reading anywhere that Jody was a pharmacy tech at the Walmart, in Poteau OK, between Jan.2008 thru Oct.2008?

I looked back over the earlier messages and the key reference to Jody working at Walmart came from post#144. Roselvr was posting extracts from Topix where there was a discussion about whether Jody had or had not worked at Walmart in Poteau.

~SNIP~ As a matter of fact,Jody was bored working at Walmart because all she could do was be a cashier for the pharmacy. She was thinking about being certified but she had to take a exam and I think it cost like $200 and was waiting to save up the money.

~SNIP~ I honestly do not remember how long she worked there

I have not seen any references to any dates that she might have worked there.

Thank you, snoopster.

I guess I'll go back to Topix and ask more questions.

On closer reading of this:

If that's true, then it would imply that she worked there fairly early on. Does anyone know when she moved in with Bo?

Here's a link to the news article about the dispatcher:

http://www.poteaudailynews.com/content/view/148707/1/

She was calling the prescriptions in for herself and under the names of her husband, Heavener Police Officer Kevin Nixon, her brother Aaron Mize.

“During the course of the investigation I learned that on approximately 21 occasions unauthorized prescriptions for controlled drugs had been called in to local pharmacies,” stated the OSBN agent. Most of the prescriptions had been filled at the Walmart pharmacy in Poteau while others were filled at D&D Pharmacy in Poteau. Court records indicate that that alleged fraudulent activity began Jan. 2 with a call to the Walmart pharmacy for Hydrocodone using Mize's name.

Why am I getting this sinking feeling that this case will just fade away?
Perhaps it's this, from the above article:

<snip>
And Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) authorities have said they are waiting for someone to come forward with a lead.
<snip>
"Hopefully, one day soon, we'll get to the bottom of what happened to her," Brown said.

Waiting and hoping doesn't solve cases. :(

<snip>
local interest in the case, intense at first, has waned and few businesses post fliers anymore seeking information.

"It's like nothing's being done about it," Jackson said. "It's not ever in the papers

This might be good to start a thread in the Cold Case forum, for continued discussion on the unsolved murder case. Especially if you and others are following the case.

hth

Cubby, when do threads in Cold Case forum tend to be started up? After a specific time period? When LE seems to be losing interest and new leads are being generated? or, when posting activity in the missing thread starts to slow?

There really is no specific time period. Basically when someone starts the thread. Personally, I think this would be a good case to discuss in the CC forum, possibly getting more 'attention' there.

There is a lot of discussion within this thread, so if a new thread is started in the CC forum, and I can- with WS'rs help- figure out which post the discussion on the unsolved murder case started within this thread and move that post and all the following posts to a new thread in the CC forum.... then link the new thread in a post here.

I'm not familiar enough with this case to determine which post I should start at though......

thoughts on doing this?

Continued discussion doesn't seem to 'fit' here in the identified subforum.

thanks!

Is there anymore news articles on Jody?

Will any Oklahoma news media do a story on Jody this week?

  • #337
Cubby, could we get Jody's maiden name put in the title of this thread?

~bump~

I sure hope there is LE activity happening behind the scenes and that this case hasn't gone 'cold'!

We haven't forgotten about you, Jody!
My thoughts are with the Rilee family.

This is from KSFM Today.....

May marks one year since Jody Rilee-Wilson's body was found decomposing on a mountain in Heavener. But one year later the circumstances surrounding her death remain a mystery.

"Well initially we thought it would take days. It's not the type of thing we thought would be an issue. But we feel there were some mistakes along the way," said Jody's father Jim Rilee.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has gotten very few leads on the case. They don't know how she died, and there are no signs of trauma on the body. Jody's death has not been ruled a homicide or a death by natural causes.

A new case agent has taken over the investigation, and they're hoping a fresh set of eyes will yield new clues.

"We have collected quite a bit of information, but it doesn't point to any one thing. It doesn't point to a natural cause, it doesn't point to a homicide, it doesn't point to a suspect in any of this," said Jessica Brown with OSBI.

Jim Rilee says they hope the lack of clarification is a technicality.

"They can call it whatever, describe it any way you want, but investigate it like a homicide, like it should be," he said.

The Rilee family says they've stayed in touch with many of Jody's friends in the area. They also started sponsoring a local high school marching band, since Jody was a big fan. These things help them deal with her death.

"It's every day. It's not whether you think about it, it's how many times. It's when you're not tied up into something you're focused on, some of the few moments you get when you're not thinking about it," said Jim.

The Rilee family says it's hard to believe it's already been one year, and even harder to believe there will be more to come.

"It's one day at a time. It honestly is. Just accomplishing going to work and finishing a day at work is an accomplishment. Each day is an accomplishment. It's hard to visualize that it has been a year, to then conceive that it's going to be another year and another year and another year," said Jody's mother Stacey.

Jody's SUV was found more than 100 miles from her body, at a restaurant in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Investigators have no leads on how it got there.

Anyone with information about the disappearance and death of Jody Rilee-Wilson, call Crimestoppers at 1-800- SHERIFF.You will remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward up to $20,000.
