OK OK - Leonard Dirickson, 39, Strong City, 14 March 1998

Re: this LD Missing persons case, this is definitely odd. Who was the mysterious man that LD left the farm with, and who was the last person he was seen with?! I don't think he left his son/family/farm of his own accord in order to "skip town" due to depression about his divorce, financial issues, etc. I do think he was probably killed for some reason (debts, revenge, etc.) & that's why he's never turned up since.

I do think the "alleged" sighting of LD at a bar/roadhouse in TX 6 months later was a red herring/false lead. The guy that called it in said he saw LD in the bar & he was drunk & carrying on, etc. The guy said he was going to wait for the authorities & then point out LD to them - but he had left by the time they got there. So, maybe he was a liar & didn't want to get confronted. Or , maybe he saw someone that looked like LD. In either case, he left before he could be questioned.

Leonard Dirickson went missing March 14, 1998- he was 39 years old.

At approx. 9 am on March 14, 1998 while having breakfast with his teenage son, an unknown man pulled up to their home in Strong City, Oklahoma. This unknown man had apparently come to inquire about a horse that Leonard had for sale. Leonard told his son that he was going to take the man to Elk City, Oklahoma and then on to Mobeetie, Texas to look at horses. Leonard was never heard from again.

A waitress a few miles from Leonard’s house claims to have seen him with the unknown man a few hours after they left Leonard’s home that day, and they were eating breakfast. Whether the sighting is credible or not is in the air, due to the family of Leonard being absolutely adamant that he wouldn’t eat breakfast twice. There was also a sighting six months after his disappearance where a man in a bar in Amarillo who claimed to have seen and talked to Leonard. When police arrived neither the caller nor Leonard were at the bar. There is no evidence that Leonard ever actually arrived at his barn where his horse he had for sale was kept. He was last seen getting into a white 1994 Ford F-150 possibly with New Mexico plates.

Circumstances of Disappearance

On March 14th, 1998, Leonard Dirickson and his son were having breakfast together in the kitchen of Dirickson's Oklahoma farmhouse. A truck pulled up outside and Leonard went out to investigate. Leonard came back into the kitchen to say the man wanted to see the stud horse Leonard had for sale. Leonard told his son that he was taking the man to see it and that he'd be back later that night. He said he was traveling to Elk City, Oklahoma, then to Mobeetie, Texas, to look at the horses. The two men then drove off.

Dirickson was last seen with a White male with had a reddish-brown beard, was approximately 6'2", 210 lbs, 41 years of age, was right handed and smoked Marlboro Light cigarettes. He was driving a white 1994 Ford, F-150, extended cab pickup possibly with New Mexico tags.

Leonard Dirickson was not seen in Elk City or Mobeetie. After a divorce, plummeting prices and high feed costs forced the Dirickson's dairy business to fold. Dirickson sold out in December 1997 -- three months before he vanished. Leonard was having a lot of financial problems. In January, Dirickson found work at a local metal company and told his parents he liked it. Then he disappeared.

Relatives believe he had less than $150 cash on him that day. His last paycheck was not cashed. His credit cards have had no activity on them. Foul play is possible.
