According to the search warrant, the homeowner told detectives that he moved into the home in 2019, but allowed a friend to store items in the basement. The friend who allegedly stored the items is a relative of Sandoval who had been living at an address where she had been receiving her social security payments.

Sandoval was receiving social security payments monthly because she had a mental disability. Her sister tells Local News 9 that some family members had wanted to become Sandoval's legal caretaker to receive the payments.

On May 14, 2021, Norman police served a search warrant at the relative's apartment and charged him with an unrelated weapons charge.

A Norman police spokesperson tells PEOPLE investigators are following multiple leads and have not named any suspects related to the death.

*This is so close to me. I’ve probably driven by the house. I’m sick about it. Have we heard any friends speak out? Did the family and friends speak out in 2018?

I'm not sure whether any family members spoke out in 2018. Her sister is quoted in the article linked above stating they became suspicious in 2018 when Maggie stopped contacting her mother. I agree with her sister's statement that"...Everyone let her down.” :( Perhaps there's more to the story than was reported, but based on what I've read, everyone has in fact let her down, including her family, Norman police, and Adult Protective Services. I find it odd that APS didn't follow up to check on Maggie after she filed the report against her brother and sister-in-law. What happened after she was "moved to a safe place"? Where was that safe place? How'd she get back into the care of her murderer(s) and why didn't anyone notice she was missing for 3 years? Did her sister, mom, or other family members report her missing or contact police to check on her after she left the "safe place"? If not, why? Maybe they did but it never made the news.

Critical questions…I wanna know too.
Cleveland County is a disaster ridden area with little funding for our state agencies. I’m talking about all the vengeful tornadoes. We have been literally thrown to hell and back. We have many many homeless. Lindsey Street is near the campus. There are so many pubs and bars where underage teens go to hang with the older crowd. Anyway, I could go and on but won’t. Instead I’ll post the Norman Transcript and the Oklahoman.

According to a search warrant affidavit, Sandoval started living with her brother Octavio Sanchez and his wife Desiree in early 2018 at their Norman apartment.

Sandoval filed a police report in February 2018 alleging that her brother and his wife were abusing her. The responding officer noted visible bruising on Sandoval’s arms hands and face.

Court records say Sandoval’s other family members reported her missing at some point in 2018, and that she was last seen living at her brother and sister-in-law’s home.

After Sandoval’s disappearance, the Sanchezes allowed their friend Miguel Munoz and his children to live with them while the family got settled in Oklahoma. The couple eventually helped Munoz find and secure a house at 715 W. Lindsey St.

Munoz, who allowed police to search his basement in May 2021, said he knew nothing about a body in basement and that he hadn’t seen the Sanchezes since May 2020. He said he had allowed Octavio to store some items in the Lindsey Street home’s basement after he and his family moved in.

Norman police discovered in interviews that while Munoz and his children briefly lived with the Sanchezes, Munoz’s teenage daughter heard the couple discussing “a dead body in the basement.” When she and her family moved to the Lindsey Street house, she noticed the home had a basement and assumed the Sanchezes were referring to that house.

Munoz told investigators he last saw Sanchez in May of 2020 when Sanchez “was trying to get into the house uninvited,” according to the search warrant affidavit. Munoz said he had to call police to get Sanchez to leave.

On May 14, investigators executed a search warrant at Sanchez’s home at 1224 Westlawn Dr. and recovered documents showing he and his wife were receiving Social Security benefits intended for Sandoval.

Investigators said Sandoval was last known to be alive and residing with Sanchez and his wife in an apartment in the 1600 block of Ann Branden Boulevard.

Investigators said Sandoval at one time was placed in Griffin Memorial Hospital for mental health treatment, and on Feb. 17, 2018 she filed a report with Norman police stating Sanchez and his wife were abusing her.

While Sandoval lived with Sanchez and his wife, there were multiple reports filed with law enforcement and state agencies, investigators said.

The last known report was on April 16, 2018, investigators said.

Sanchez and his wife lived at the Ann Branden Boulevard apartment until October 2018, according to investigators.

Court documents suggest the incident is a first-degree murder case. Investigators are looking into Sandoval's medical records from a mental health center.
DECOMPOSING BODY FOUND IN NORMAN: Court documents reveal new details after decomposing body found inside basement of Norman home

The house where the disturbing discovery was made is located on the 700 block of West Lindsey Street. It sits alongside one of the busiest roads in Norman, only a few blocks away from the University of Oklahoma's campus, surrounded by student housing.

The homeowner allegedly told authorities he let his friend use his basement for storage.

That friend turned out to be the brother of Margarita who she was living with at the time of her disappearance back in 2018.

Norman Police Department patrol officers responded to the home in 700 block of West Lindsey Street. The man who lives there told police he moved into the residence in 2019, and, at the time, he allowed his friend to store things in the basement, but he knew nothing about a dead body in the basement.
Dead woman's body wrapped in layers of plastic found in the basement of Norman home

*so, this is making me crazy. she disappeared in 2018 but the brother moved his sister’s dead body in 2019. or - it could have been one or both of the two additional people (was one of them the brother and perhaps the other his wife?) who lived with the homeowner for a bit…see below:

After interviewing the homeowner’s daughter, police found out there were two additional people living with the homeowner and his family for a short period of time. Court documents do not reveal when the two additional people moved out.

During the interview, the daughter told police she overheard the two people talking about “a dead body in the basement” according to court documents.

On May 14, 2021, Norman police served a search warrant at the married couple’s apartment, and documents were recovered showing that they were receiving social security benefits intended for the husband’s special needs sister Margarita Sandoval, according to the affidavit.

From January 2018 through April 2018, there were multiple reports generated by law enforcement and state agencies involving Sandoval. The last report that mentioned her was on April 16, 2018. Based on the timeline of facts, authorities know the last place Sandoval was living was her brother and sister-in-law’s apartment in Norman.

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – After four long years, there’s finally some closure to an unthinkable killing in Norman.

On Thursday, 27-year-old Desiree Sanchez and charged 35-year-old Octavio Sanchez, who was already in custody in another county on differing charges, were arrested in connection to a 2018 homicide.

“That’s a long time,” said Major Jamie Shattuck, with NPD. “For us to be able to put a case together to actually close this case and figure out what happened is very exciting for us.”

According to court records, investigators found Facebook messages between Desiree and Octavio Sanchez about “moving the body around the house due to the smell” and say Octavio Sanchez told someone “Desiree started it and I had to finish it.” [snip] ...charged with Murder in the First Degree and Unauthorized Removal of a Dead Body.

Octavio Sanchez entered a plea of no contest Monday for manslaughter and unlawful removal of a body. He was sentenced to life in prison for manslaughter, five years for moving a body and a $10,000 fine.

I’m so glad he got life in prison! I was worried he was just going to get a slap on the wrist.

I wonder if his wife will be charged.

After working in skilled nursing for decades, I have seen several cases over the years where people were brought in for treatment/rehab from illness/injury thought to be caused by a caregiver. Never quite enough evidence. The family come back in sweet as you please promising the moon or bullying and threatening and the victim goes back with them. Some have died shortly thereafter or been re-admits. It's very sad what people will do for a government check.
