OK OK - Stephen “Steve” Lee Murphy, last seen in Claremore sometime in 1976, not reported missing until July 2022

I really think Stephen Murphy might still be alive, but I did some searching and came across the following:

On July 7, 1985, a human skull and jawbone was found in Tulsa, Oklahoma, it is believed that the skull and jawbone may belong to an adult male and that the estimated year of death was probably between 1975-1985.
The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)


I would like to know what you think about this.

Not the OP, but if you could get your hands on a joint tax return filed by your Mom & Dad -- Dad's SSN should be there.

But, looks like that won't help you:

I'm a retired accountant that did taxes for decades. Your mother can request a "transcript" of her tax return. I don't know if there is a time limit on them. I think it is worth a phone call. If she calls 800-829-1040, they should be able to check into it for her. Be prepared to be put on hold for up to 45 minutes before someone talks to her. First check to see if she still has the original. I saved all of mine and she may have to.

Transcripts are free if they still have them. I tried to help a client get a copy of their return three years ago without success. The IRS claimed they didn't keep copies anymore.

I did find a little info in a paywalled article that says "The weathered bones of a 20- to 25-year-old man were found along the Arkansas River near 57th Street. A jawbone and 13 teeth were among the remains found."

Of course, there is no evidence that Stephen was in Tulsa after 1976 so it's unlikely.

I don't have any experience with the following website, but Docusearch's website claims they can produce one's social security number in certain circumstances on a case by case basis. *** I have no idea as to their fee schedule or reputation, but it might be worth calling them to ask if they could be of assistance? Also, a licensed private investigator should be able to get your father's social security number, but of course, there would be a fee....unless there are any PI's on here willing to help for free??? Anyone????

If you know anyone who has access to Accurint/Lexis Nexis (insurance agent, law enforcement, collection agency, maybe an attorney etc...) that could also greatly help even without a social security number. I was able to locate my half brother (who's SS# i didnt have and with very little additional info) via Accurint years ago. Unfortunatly, i no longer have access to Accurint or I would be happy to try and help.

I will look into them. I did contact a PI and they are the ones that's informed me that the police had to take a missing person report no matter the time span due to Francine's Law.

It's possible but I'm not sure. I've found they had ties to Missouri and North Carolina and Oklahoma

I have tried the detective for the last month with no response. I found out today that a different detective has the missing person case. And he is with homicide/major crimes. I sent him an email. Just waiting on a response from him. I was waiting for the other detective to get military files. Now I have no idea what is going on or how to get those records.

I’ve been digging in. I haven’t found anything helpful, but I have ruled out some things. There are a couple Steven Lee Murphy’s, one of which is in Missouri and has a slight resemblance to the photos. However, his birthdate is early 1960s. There is also SLM in Alabama but he is younger, and one or two in Indiana/Ohio/Illinois (can’t remember exact state, but I located birth certs for them in this states).

SLM in Alabama has quite a resemblance--but more like a family resemblance than individual. He's why I asked about family connections to Alabama.
