The incident happened August 13 when officials responded to the Toppers area at Fort Gibson Lake on a call of a four-year-old who had reportedly drowned.

The child, Steven Powers III, was administered CPR and then flown to a hospital in Tulsa. Sadly, the boy died two days later.

According to the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office, investigators learned the boy’s father, Steven Powers II, 29, was allegedly under the influence of drugs while taking care of the boy and another small child.

Officials say evidence shows that his wife, Tina Powers, 35, knew her husband was under the influence of drugs and left the children in his care alone.

On August 23, investigators with the sheriff’s office obtained and executed arrest warrants for the couple for the charge of second-degree murder.

Their bond was set at $250,000 each.

Powers was recently reported to be in the Tulsa area, and today, August 3, 2023, Wagoner County Investigator Ben Noble and members of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office Warrant Squad found Powers at a home near Admiral and Harvard.

I disagree strongly that this death was due to an accident. And how can they charge the man with a felony if the ME says it was an accident?? I am confused.
Simple. He was negligent while responsible for a child who died under his watch. He didn’t intentionally kill the child, but his actions (using drugs) were blatant and reckless and any reasonable person would know that he was endangering the child’s life. MOO

Steven Powers was given 15 years probation as part of a plea deal in the drowning death of his son Steven Powers III in 2019.

Investigators say the 4-year-old boy who couldn't swim was in Ft. Gipson Lake without a flotation device. Powers admitted to being high on drugs while in the car of his son and another small child.
