I am from tulsa born and raised. I'm not there now but this is a terrible happening of events. But why do they have to protest and cause more racial conflict. These guys are in jail and will be taken care of, right?

Probably several reasons. Personally I think it is very unusual to offer them bond when they killed multiple victims.

And probably the situation with Zimmerman comes into it also.

It is really looking like preferential treatment. I am caucasian, but even I have to raise an eyebrow.

LOL personally I think these guys would be really stupid to bond out right now. And I'm not real sure they will be safe in jail.

I've been missing in action for a few weeks, and the first I heard of this was this morning at WalMart in a Tulsa World headline. I feel like a big dope for asking, but if anyone wanted to write a brief synopsis of this case (as a colleague of mine used to tell me when I'd be off on a tangent about some work of literature, "Put it on a 3" x 5" card; rather busy right now, will read later," lol), I'd appreciate it. Actually, will read whole thread shortly but hugely tired right now. Really feel embarrassed I knew nothing of this as I only live 75 minutes from Tulsey Town.

overnight on good friday 5 people were shot in north tulsa. 3 died and 2 are in the hospital. It put everyone on edge for a few days until they arrested 2 white men for the shootings. They confessed. One shot 3 and the other shot 2. Supposedly the younger suspect claimed black folk shot his dad 2 yrs ago. They set bond at 9 million each so now people are upset over that. <<<<in a nutshell

Thanks, tk71texas. North Tulsa's some tough terrain. I've taught plenty of students from there - great kids from mean streets. I look forward to seeing the shooters serving life sentences at Big Mac soon, life without parole. Wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if the charges and sentence turn out to be even more severe, though I'm anti-death penalty. (n.b. north Tulsa - the Greenwood District - back in the early part of the 20th century, became the first U.S. portion of a city actually bombed - aerially fire-bombed! - by white citizens with probable government sanction, after riots sparked by outrageous racism broke out after a black man received what was then called "rough justice" after a spurious incident in Tulsa - well worth googling and reading about; incredible stuff; as for riots about these crimes, what's past is prologue - but pray for peace) (Wiki)

I acutally graduated from Booker T. Washington HS in 1990. I grew up near 5th and lewis. I've spent most of my youth in or near the "northside". I don't remember it being "rough".

I live in Houston now I've learned a whole new meaning to "rough side of town"

One of my best friends - a teaching colleague and an attorney - helped "reverse integrate" Booker T. back in the mid-'70s, when white students were then, under a controversial policy, bused to black schools to achieve racial balance. He volunteered to do so; though he gets on my nerves at times I certainly have always admired the man for that. It wasn't an easy thing for a white kid to do.

As the Wiki article points out, not all of the north side was (or is) tough terrain; at the time of the '21 riots the Greenwood was one of the wealthiest black city districts in the country. I taught several young black women from there who were middle class all the way; and several young black men who were either in gangs at one time, or victims of gang violence. One definition certainly never fits the entirety of any area of town, I agree; there are places, and then there are places.

Watts' motive in this crime spree should be the catalyst for the DP for him, England may get a life sentence due to mental state at the time of the crimes. England was suicidal, depressed and who knows what else but Watts did not have the emotional history that England did. Watts' reasons are pure evil, and my statement is not to dismiss the actions of England. I am curious to see the reasons Watts will give; we already know, as per the article linked above, that he was trying to get an alibi. Sad case.

From December 2013:

http://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news...plead-guilty-sentenced-to-life-without-parole

Jacob England and Alvin Watts, the two suspects in Tulsa's now-infamous "Good Friday" murders, were each sentenced to life without the possibility of parole Monday.

The men were sentenced after pleading guilty to three first-degree murder charges and two shooting with intent to kill charges. England, 19, and Watts, 33, were also sentenced to one year in the county jail for the misdemeanor charge of malicious intimidation, the state of Oklahoma's equivalent of a hate crime offense.

England and Watts were accused of gunning down random black victims in north Tulsa in a case that made national headlines.

They were charged in the deaths of William Allen, Bobby Clark and Dannaer Fields. Two other people were shot but survived...

Prosecutors say the two targeted blacks because England's father, who was a Cherokee Indian, was killed by a black man in 2010. England later admitted that was true.
