The homeowner did not shoot them; his son shot them.

Iirc the female getaway driver can and probably be charged with the three murders. Jmo

I am thankful that I am reading the homeowner's son is alive and not dead like we often see in so many of these kind of cases. Recently in many of these horrific home invasions it is those who are inside of their own home bothering no one who are found dead.

I am glad this young man was able to think quickly for there really is only seconds to react when something like this happens. I know he has to be devastated he has taken three lives but it was obvious they were up to no good.

I am not the least bit surprised to learn the female getaway driver was the mastermind behind this plot. She got the others to do her dirty work for her, and she has the blood of all three on her hands, and not the young man who was only protecting himself.

IMO

"I'm sorry we broke into his house. I'm sorry we scared him or whatever, but I'm not going to be sorry he shot somebody. He could've shot them boys in the leg. I understand he was scared, had every right, he has his rights, has his rights, I'm understanding of him. I affected his life, I'm sorry, but am I compassionate for him? He's on the bottom of my list to be compassionate for," Rodriguez said.

"She said she'd done other break-ins in Tulsa County and near Owasso, but no one had ever been home." bbm http://www.newson6.com/story/350352...murder-suspect-interviewed-by-lori-fullbright Mar 30

Sooooooo, is she saying her actions played no role (or virtually no role) in causing these three deaths in Broken Arrow, as homeowner/resident was responsible, by his (inadvertent? inconsiderate?) presence in his home?

Sorry. No more sarc from me today on this.

I cannot imagine sleeping in own home, awakening to glass shatter & seeing three punks invading. Scary.

OMG.

Thanks for the updates , everyone. (I think.)
Going to go and throw up right now.... *eyes rolling*

No. You know what ? Let's take this getaway driver , hand her a gun, and have her shoot three people ( who have bullet-proof armor all over, of course !) JUST IN THEIR LEGS ; and see how SHE fares ?

Smdh.

I'm sorry for Zach who will live with this for ever. But if I were to speak to him-- I'd tell him he did nothing wrong.
Except to save his own life and most likely the lives of the others in that home !

:moo:

Eta : And yes -- how "inconsiderate" of the Peters to be at home, in their own house !
My dearest friend lost her brother and sis-in-law in a home invasion many years ago. It was stated by the defense at the perp's trial that the killers didn't mean to beat and shoot them to death --- they only meant to rob the place and thought the couple were gone that weekend. Except they were both home. So that caused the murderers to 'panic'.
BS.

The 21 year old getaway driver Ms Rodriguez has just demonstrated her mothering skills so I hope her three children get a better chance at life than they would have had with her.
Many elderly people (my mother included) withdraw about $50 each week for daily milk and bread etc from the nearby shop - other than their weekly shop which they use volunteer drivers to help them with. This small amount of money is frequently stolen (my mother included), the burglers know elderly people keep $50 - $100 for nearby daily shopping and wreck their homes until they find it.
We know drug addiction is the driving force and 21 year old Rodriguez was running her little gang of criminals. Her mentality is astonishing, so many other criminals also think that way.
I agree absolutely with the actions taken by the home-owners son, and I hope he recovers and eventually understands what he did was justified and correct. His parent's support should help him come to terms with it.

I am usually someone that feels at least a tiny bit sorry for young people like this, throwing their lives away at such an early age for something incredibly stupid. However, after this interview, I don't feel sorry for that girl at all. She's more worried about telling everyone that she didn't just leave them there than she is remorseful. She's sitting there smiling the whole time, too. Not one real tear. Maybe that's shock, maybe she's just nervous, I don't know, but I do know it won't go over well at a jury trial.

I can't help but feel a little sorry for those 3 boys, though. They lost their lives trying to steal somebody else's stuff. I don't think they intended to hurt anyone, but that's the chance you take when you break into someone's home. I've seen a lot of ugly comments directed towards their parents on social media, but I think that's unfair. Parents can't always control their kids, especially when they are that age. Kids from good homes make dumb choices all the time. These 3 families are now paying the ultimate price for those dumb choices.

I feel awful for the guy that shot them. If it were me, I would've done the same, but I would have a hard time dealing with the fact that I killed 3 teenage kids. That girl said he could've shot them in the legs, but real life isn't a movie. You come down the stairs and see 2 or 3 guys in your house, you aren't really thinking, "Oh hey, let me make sure not to really hurt these guys."

Anyway, she said she had a good home life. I really hope that's true, considering her kids won't have their mom around to raise them.

I think she is trying to put the blame back on the homeowner's son for the 3 deaths by saying he could have shot them in the legs, deflecting the blame off of her.

I feel bad for the son. Reports say he was crying and asking the police if the perps he shot were going to be okay.

I think this really illustrates his good character.

Not only was the use of force legal, but the shooter behaved very ethically as well. He used just enough force to defend himself (sadly, lethal in all three cases). Once the people were no longer a threat and on the ground, he stopped firing and called police.

During the call, the shooter was concerned both about his safety and about getting medical attention for the people he shot. He later inquires about their condition and genuinely hopes they will be ok. He is clearly upset by what he needed to do.

Contrast his ethics to a shooter in Houston who was obviously giddy with excitement about the chance to take human life while talking to the dispatcher. He boasts to her that Texas law permits lethal force, then goes to a house he knew to be unoccupied, confronts and kills the burglars whom he had apparently emphasized were black.

I just would like to add this. A couple of years ago I took a tactical one day handgun shooting course which was taught by ex marines.
I have a fear of handguns because I have absolutely no knowledge of them.
They were giving me numerous types of guns to see which ones I felt comfortable with.
So as we got into the shooting targets part i was asked if someone was coming at me with only seconds to spare where would i aim to shoot them?
I said the legs. Well was that ever the wrong answer. They said NEVER to go for the legs bec a use you have to take out the threat and to always shoot for the chest. Always. It s either you or them.
And with three perps coming at you your literally talking not even seconds.
They took a chance and lost. I only hope this young shooter gets the help he needs to overcome his actions which he had no choice as far as I am concerned.
As those marines told me...... It's you or them honey.

I've always thought it would be interesting to see if there was any solid data to back up those claimss. It's a point we'll worth arguing and I wouldn't take such advice at face value .

Is your question: is 'aim for center mass' self defense concept more effective than 'aim for legs' (or arms or head)?
Or a different question? TiA.
