"The fire was reported about 4 p.m. Thursday in a quiet residential area of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, 13 miles (20 kilometers) southeast of Tulsa.

Broken Arrow police said that although the fire and the deaths were being investigated as homicides, they did not believe an immediate threat to the public existed."

"The victims were found inside a house in the 400 block of S. Hickory Avenue, police said.

The ATF is on scene assisting with the investigation."

I was just coming in here to see if a thread had been started. This is absolutely horrific and mind-boggling!

No new information, really, although it sounds like BOTH of the adults were responsible for whatever happened.

That was my understanding when I saw it on the news this morning too.

From the second link above, “Broken Arrow police said the investigation is in the early stages but know the children didn't die from the fire. The parents are considered the suspects.”

I am guessing that if it was clear right away that the kids didn’t die from the fire or from smoke inhalation, that means their bodies must have shown unmistakable signs of trauma/violence.

"Six juvenile victims ranged from age 1 to 13, police said. They were found in one room of the house where the fire was contained, but none of the victims are believed to have died due to the fire, according to authorities."

Beyond sad

Why kill six of your babies?!?!? Why?!?!?

This is devastating. That's all I have to offer. Sadly.

Those poor children. They didn't choose or deserve to die.

Thank you for sharing the latest on this horrible case Snoopster. Broken Arrow, Oklahoma may have a low crime rate but oh my gosh! The multiple family members deaths in this case and the 2 brothers who killed their parents and siblings or attempted to is too much!

“But I did get some weird vibes from him,” she added. “He wore some T-shirts that were kind of dark and strange. And she was quiet. She hardly ever spoke, honestly. I always wondered about that.”

....

“They were nice kids, but they always kept to themselves,” Treseler said, adding that she thought the family had only three children and was surprised to learn of three more.
Treseler, who has a 4-year-old and a baby of her own, said she invited the children to her daughter’s birthday party last year. But they told her they couldn’t come and turned down some gift bags of candy she offered.

What went on in that home?
Were the children home schooled?
Did anyone outside of their family circle know them?

This is such a horrific case.
I can't imagine what the first responders had to deal with and what they will continue to have to deal with after seeing the scene.

Have the victims' names been released yet?
I find it strange that they haven't been.
The media would be able to find out the name of the family, but they are all silent. I presume that LE has asked that they keep it private?

And the neighbors only thought they had 3 kids, not 6? That's bizarre too.

Finally we find out who the family is....lots of information in this article which includes an interview with the husband's parents.

Tulsa couple mourning suspected murder-suicide of son, daughter-in-law and six grandchildren in BA

Brian II was the only child to ever attend school. He went to kindergarten and one semester of first grade at a Broken Arrow elementary school but, “His father didn’t get along with what they were teaching,” Danny said.
“They wanted boys to dance like girls. That was the final thing,” Marilyn recalled.
Brian and Brittney opted for home-schooling from then on.

The parents were: Brian (34) & Brittany Nelson (32).
The murdered children were: Brian II, age 13, daughter Brantley, 9, sons Vegeta, 7, Ragnar, 5, and Kurgan, 2, and daughter Britannica, 19 months.

They apparently were loaded up with student debt from Brian's studies. It sounds like he spent a lot of time taking college courses. Brittany didn't work and she homeschooled the kids. Brian always had a gun in his pocket.

Apparently Brian had an accident at work when he was in his early 20s and experienced a head injury. His parents said he changed a bit after that and suffered from severe headaches.

Lots more in the article.

Such a sad, sad case.
Rest in peace young ones. You didn't deserve this.

Here is another article that I missed earlier that identifies the adult couple...

A CITY ASKS 'WHY': 8 deaths in Broken Arrow being investigated as a murder-suicide | Broken Arrow Sentinel

She added that Brian often wore T-shirts with “kind of stark or dark images” and that she got a “weird” vibe from him. Welch said she believed the couple both went to college but they were currently not making the payments on the house, instead utilizing the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency.

Reading between the lines on all of the news articles it seems that Brian Nelson was controlling and a gun-freak. I suspect he was abusive. His wife had no parents in her life so she was likely emotionally dependent on him. They had gone out since high school and their relationship was quickly 'iron-clad' (quote from his parents). His parents said he lost it sometimes when he had his bad headaches. He decided his kids would be homeschooled and they continued to have children, including the last 2 of the 6 in quick succession.

This was not a healthy household (obviously).

Anyone who mows the lawn in the suburbs with a gun strapped on is not a normal community member. Just saying.

homeschooling the entire lot because his son had to dance "like [a] girl" says, uh, a lot.

I taught in elementary buildings & pre-K for a long time. That's generally worded as expressing the rhythm of music physically, includes clapping and marching to music as well as dance. Teachers imho missed the child & Mom, didn't miss Dad, imho.

<modsnip - no link>

Kurgan, Ragnar, and Vegeta set off my alarm bells.

Yes, the world has changed since Anakin was an unusual name, but not that much.

jmho ymmv lrr
