MISSING AND ENDANGERED -- 24-year-old Tyra Whitaker

The Tulsa Police Department is trying to find 24-year-old Tyra Whitaker who is missing and endangered.

Whitaker was last seen on January 19th, 2022, getting into a Chevy pickup truck with her boyfriend at the time, Terryl Brooks.

Brooks has since been arrested and charged in the murders of two other women, Elizabeth Dillard and Star Rainbow Dancer.

Whitaker has not been in contact with friends or family since she was last seen. Whitaker's family reported her missing in February.

Another beauty. This one is dire -- it's been a long time since she has been seen. Her poor family. Maybe she is hiding from Brooks and doesn't know he has been arrested and is in custody.
At least Brooks is off the streets, I assume, since he's been charged with murder. Maybe he will give LE info on Tyra -- we can at least hope he will. He's in big trouble, seems to me.
Prayers she will be found alive and okay.

Tulsa Police have arrested a man accused of killing two women within one week.

Police say they fear he could have had more victims had they not stopped the suspect when they did.

Terryl Brooks is now in jail accused of murdering two women.

"Our fear was that he had already found a third person to stay with and we were worried we might end up with a third and we didn't want that," said Lt. Brandon Watkins.

Lieutenant Brandon Watkins says on March 25th police found 27-year-old Elizabeth Dillard shot and killed on her front porch. He says Brooks had dated her.

Then on April 3rd, police found 69-year-old Star Rainbow Dancer dead inside of her apartment, but Watkins says they believe she had been dead for several days. He says Brooks had been staying with her for a few days.

"There were a number of things that were kind of matching up, and later we looked at the evidence and realized yea the same person did both of these killings," he said.

Watkins says an Oklahoma Highway Trooper spotted Brooks' truck early Tuesday morning and he was taken into custody.

Sounds like a serial killer starting out. In a rush too, apparently. I’m glad they got him off the streets. Hopefully he realizes the jig is up and he should just confess everything. I’m wondering if there is biological evidence that connects the two murders? They say they “looked at the evidence” and realized the same person committed both. I’m so nosy. I’m hoping for the best for Tyra right now but it’s not looking good.

On Jan. 19th, Whitaker's family says she was picked up after her shift at family dollar in west Tulsa.

For the next few days her family didn’t hear from her.

“After about a week we were concerned because she had not been to work and she had not been in communication with any of us," said her aunt.

Her family reported her missing in January. Tulsa police didn’t release her information until April 6th when they learned she was connected to an accused murderer.

Candlelight vigil held for missing Tulsa woman – 102.3 KRMG
Tyra Whitaker’s family and friends came together for a vigil celebrating her 25th birthday outside of the Family Dollar near West Edison and Gilcrease Museum Road, the last place Tyra was seen. Family said the vigil was Tyra’s son’s idea.

“Today is Tyra’s 25th birthday, and her 4-year-old son knows that it’s her birthday and he wanted to have a birthday party with balloons and candles for her,” McCaskill said.

The birthday celebration resembled a candlelight vigil as loved ones comforted each other outside of the Family Dollar on N. Edison. “This is the last place Tyra was seen by any of us,” McCaskill said.

HUMAN REMAINS IDENTIFIED -- 24-year-old Tyra Whitaker

On 4/20/2022, Homicide Detectives were following leads in one of our missing persons cases in a wooded area adjacent to a pond near E. Admiral Pl. and 124th E. Ave.

The remains have since been identified as 24-year-old Tyra Whitaker.

Whitaker was last seen on January 19th, 2022, getting into a Chevy pickup truck with her boyfriend at the time, Terryl Brooks.

Brooks has since been arrested and charged in the murders of two other women, Elizabeth Dillard and Star Rainbow Dancer.

Detectives anticipate Terryl Brooks will now face an additional 1st Degree Murder charge in the death of Tyra Whitaker.

Since being incarcerated, Brooks has been charged with three additional crimes, including assaulting jail staff. His murder trial is scheduled for October 20, 2025
