Of course, I say that and then read this from Verizon:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,195745,00.html

"Phone companies do not even make records of local calls in most cases because the vast majority of customers are not billed per call for local calls,"

However, from the time warner website, "Call details for your local outbound calls can be requested from Time Warner Cable customer service"

Has it been mentioned what service provider was used for the landline?

I feel there must be a 'smoking gun' and it is likely the VOIP.
If not, I doubt Willoughby would have pulled the trigger so soon.

I agree JTF. They must have something. Rip Van Willoughby woke up for this one 3 months from the time of murder! Compared to other cases this was quick (though it didn't feel fast during the wait for the arrest).

Wouldn't it be IRONIC if this VOIP Expert was nailed by evidence showing he used his VOIP system to fake the calls and then got caught doing it? Oh the irony.

I noticed that right away. Even at 6am it's warm out in July in this area. Really warm. I believe he was covering up scratches or, possibly, some mud or dirt from dumping Nancy's body. It's also probably why he changed shoes. New subdivision just cut in, swampy type area with mud. Think about it. Why else change shoes?

Kinda fits with his car being all clean and spiffy aye ?

Bingo!

Trip 1 was to the store to be seen on video (excuse why out) and then to dump the body.
He got home, changed shoes and hatched the plan for the VOIP call ...then trip 2.

You recall he gave two different routes for his trips as well during his deposition. The first being much closer to the location of where Nancy was found...

Ahh but recall his entire car wasn't all clean and spiffy! The TRUNK was clean. The detectives noted the inside of his car had debris (like possibly grass and stuff like that). And then there was some kind of substance noted (but not identified in the warrant) in the car which was described as some kind of organic material (we assume from the victim). So what was suspicious was just the one area was all clean (remember he claimed it was due to a gas spill a couple weeks prior).

SG - I never knew vacuuming a trunk would remove issues related to gasoline either :D

Yes! You're right!

I had thought he would have dumped her body around 4am and no later than 6am (under cover of darkness) and then gone to the store. But he might have done the dump later than 6am...like, say, 6:30am, thus necessitating the change of shoes because of the ground conditions. I do recall it was damp/wet and muddy to some extent around there. Plus early morning dew as well!

ETA: I remember now I thought this because of Momto3kids' insistence that there was a 4:20am visit to Harris Teeter based on an alleged time stamped video stating this. However, there appears to be no 4:20am grocery store run. There were only the 2, both after 6am. So now I need to revise my theory of when he went to the dump site.

I remember we had some long and involved discussions when this factoid first became known. (yeah, good times).

It's so patently ridiculous an excuse to use. I'm surprised the detectives didn't start laughing at him when he claimed that.

First trip was Lochmere Drive to Kildaire and HT. Take a quick left on Lily Atkins off of Lochmere, a quick left on Holly Springs - the first road right is Fielding, another right and that is where Nancy was found...

Wasn't there an article somewhere (national maybe) where they talk about Google searches and mention the Cooper case?

Anyone remember that? It would be really old.

Canadians.

I know that there are some grand misconceptions that we Canadians live in igloos and ride on dog sleds but we also, surprisingly, get warm weather. The city that Brad is actually from, Medicine Hat, AB, runs temperatures in the summer of 35 to 40 degrees Celsius (95 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit) and is actually considered a desert area. Given that he had been in NC for some time, I would assume he was acclimated to the area. So wearing a long sleeve shirt in July in NC would be odd for him, it would not be common just because he's Canadian. Sorry, hate when Canadians are stereotyped.

I'm sure you were kidding when you said it originally.

(Ok, but don't look at our temps now, they're horrible but it is winter).

There were suggestions that the prosecution's opening statement was somehow less than it could have been. I understand those comments are based upon a belief the prosecution would have more punch respecting evidence we haven't heard about yet.

I thought the opening was powerful and poignant. It was efficient, and set, and perhaps defined, the major themes.

The key will be in the details but this opening statement is powerful in that it discloses some key evidence but moreso foreshadows, but does not guarantee, that more is coming to prove Brad did it.

I'm impressed. This really set the stage and has opened the door to a lot of damning evidence.

Did you see his attire?
Who wears jeans and and a dark sweater in july? ( NC anyway)
Was he trying to hide scratches or bruises?

The low was 68 degrees that morning. Not cold, but not scorching either. Not out of the realm of normal to wear a sweatshirt and jeans if that's the quickest thing you can find in the dirty clothes pile on a Saturday morning.

Sure it wasn't a fleece pullover and not a sweater?

In July, all my sweaters and fleece pullovers have been packed away for months.
Not sure why such a garment would be on top of the dirty clothes pile?
My hinky meter went up when he showed up at the 7-18-08 CPD news conference that hot afternoon wearing a long sleeve shirt. The ball cap and jeans showed he wasn't trying to 'dress for the occasion'.

I feel sure his 'typical' July weekend attire was more like this....

After looking at it with more focus in the replay, I am no longer as disappointed as I was when I caught bits and pieces from my phone earlier.
I agreed with using a female to present the argument, especially since Howard is so dry and unemotional. Still, I would have preferred someone with a little more passion and emotion to set the stage.

I thought the prosecutions opening statement was well done. Succint, to the point, and outlined the case. JMO

It doesn't look like she is wearing a necklace in this picture.

Oh boy, another van story. Hope it is not a brown one :D

Again. That's you, not him. He is derided for his house-keeping skills. You think he diligently packs his out of season clothes in the spring/summer? I don't. I sometimes wear sweats in the mornings even in the summer. And yes, I even wear jeans in the summer.

I have co-workers that wear long sleeve shirts all year long. They are technical geeks like Brad too. Not hinky.
