Oprah balks at Hosting Palin

That this is even a controversy bothers me. To expand on what I posted earlier, entertainment television is given way too much power in this country, and that it injects itself into politics bothers me (and that the politicians go along with it). Shows such as Oprah, the View, Leno, Letterman, etc. should, IMO, stick with entertainment. If their audience wants to learn about political issues, they can always pick up a newspaper, read legitimate news sites on the internet, or even watch the news on television. The mainstream media reporting about a political candidate going or not going on Oprah's show is disheartening. I still don't get why this is a controversy, or why it's even worthy of media attention.

Thinking about the media always makes me grouchy.

i remember last election a poll showed a HUGE number of voters got their 'political news' from leno and jon stewart. frin what i remember, both of them were taken back and were like keeping watching us, but go watch some news !!!

oh yea -- and Cameron Diaz going on Oprah and talking about Republicans wanting to make raping LEGAL? I just lost a TON of respect for her. I hate scare tactics -- from either side. (Like yesterday -- there was a woman outside a grocery store trying to register people as Republicans. She had a sign that read 'stop child molesters' and was telling people that R's will pass legislation to put those creeps away and D's won't.)

And if Diaz was inferring to a woman's loss of control of her body -- then just come out and say the abortion issue! Don't make something up that's not true!!!!

I agree that comments like Diaz's are very misguided and well, dumb. It seriously does not help but there will always be a Diaz, or a Jessica Simpson, or Brittney Spears to spew incoherent rhetoric. I don't think they can be fairly compared to George Clooney, Matt Damon, Anjelina Jolie or say John Cusak. Since the latter actually do study and stay current in world politics.

And as far as Jon Stewart goes, (an earlier post mentioned him & Leno), The Daily Show is on Comedy Central, it's a comedy show. I much prefer Stephen Colbert, of the Colbert Report myself. But their shows are very clearly on Comedy Central.

I really suggest going somewhere totally unbiased like www.factcheck.org for acurate information on politics.

What scares me about America is that so many people bow to the pressure of their peer groups without giving a very important matter like the Presidency the first bit of research or thought.

that's absolutely true about the celebs that you mentioned entre. some really do take the time and do actual research. i know for george clooney, darfur is a big issue. correct me if im wrong, but i think he actually went to the region to see what was going wrong.

Yes, he has gone to Darfur. A couple of times, I think. He's put so much time and effort into this crisis. He's studied extensively as it truly has become a passion for him.

He's also spoken in Washington for Darfur.
