Oprah Winfrey will turn to the headlines on Thursday’s show.

She will interview the parents of missing Kyron Horman. Desiree Young and Kain Horman will be in the studio to talk about their son, who has been missing since early June. Kyron’s 8th birthday was last week.

Winfrey also talks to two people who were held hostage earlier this month at Discovery Channel headquarters. James Lee said he was upset over the channel’s programming when he entered the building and took three hostages. Police later shot and killed Lee, who had a gun and was wearing explosive devices.

For those of us living in Chicago, Oprah comes on at 9am and a repeat around 11:20PM Mon-Friday. Different times for different parts of Illinois. Central time.

Link to check the different times and places Oprah televises in your state. Just click on your state:

Oprah has dedicated her life to helping others and it's clear missing children hold a special place in her heart. How can you go wrong appearing on Oprah - she reaches all of America and those around the world.

The interviews and specials I've seen of parents and loved ones of missing children are usually short but relevant and always productive. Oprah's compassion and far reaching audience will serve Kaine and Desiree well. I wish them the best. moo

Disclaimer: Here in Chicago, we love Oprah! moo mho

When I go to Oprah on my guide for 9/16, it also shows the Discovery Channel Hostage story. :waitasec:

When I did a search:

SEARCH RESULTS FOR:
kyron horman

Nothing found.

Maybe Oprah decided to the Discovery saga instead :( I was really hoping the limelight would be KH -- as she has millions of viewers.

It's great that Kyron's face will be shown to a more wide range of people, but I wish all missing kids could get the same coverage. I know that seems impossible, but I can't help thinking that there are so many missing or murdered children who deserve the attention of Oprah.

There should be a Missing and Exploited Children television program, like America's Most Wanted. I know you can't report every single case, every single minute a child is reported missing, but you could give more coverage to kids who normally wouldn't get any, if any.

I hope Kyron comes home soon <3

There should be a show for the missing, I agree, one that keeps up with as many cases as possible-that would be a true reality show...

There is a show called "disappeared" that highlights mssing persons cases...I believe it is on the ID channel but am not 100% certain...

It's great they can get the time off to do this show to get information out about Kyron. The irony of what would have happened if either had been able to attend the science fair. :(

You know, nine times out of ten when children are abducted, their mothers and fathers are not there.

That is the nature of evil.

Terri was there, and she was the step-parent in charge that morning. If she is innocent, then why didn't she make sure Kyron was safely back in class?

I just don't see any reason to keep blaming Kaine and Desiree for not being there, when they trusted Terri to look after Kyron.

From what we've heard so far, K&D feel much more guilty about it than TH does! :furious:

I hope and pray something good comes out of this appearance on the Oprah show.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know that the parents of the young man who was murdered, who I loved so dearly, parents too, have had to deal with the "what ifs." I think the mom is doing better, but I've spent time with the dad on those issues. Bottom line--once they're adults and have left the nest, you can't watch over them 24/7, nor can you over rule their decisions. And that's so darned hard, especially when things go wrong.

Angels & Kat:

I feel I must go OT for a sec to interject. I believe it is a "parent" thing more than a "parents of adults whose decisions can't be controlled" thing. I lost my 14 yr. old son to a rare cancer a year ago. I have found innumerable ways to blame myself. I read that some Chinese doctors believed the cause of this cancer to be "emotional trauma." You can imagine, then, as a mother that my array of guilts to choose from is endless. We find a way to be responsible...

I am terribly sorry for both the losses.

On KGW Live at 7 last night, they said Kyron was to be on Oprah (in place of Bethany Storro, the acid attack victim, who cancelled her spot). The schedule on Oprah's site hasn't always been correct in the past.

We need a show on regular network broadcasting--not cable or specially ordered networks. We want ALL viewers to have a chance to see it.

Is John Walsh's show gone now?

I would wish for all of us, when faced with the erratic cruelty of life, (especially those who suffer the loss of a child at any age)...to be surrounded by people who will protect us from unnecessary guilt, not be the purveyors of it.

During a very difficult period in my Life, someone dear reminded me that "but that the Lord keeps the City...the Watchman waits in vain." No one can be a perpetual Watchman. Tragedy may strike in an instant. There is no way any human can safeguard anyone else 24 hours a day.

No way.

The day Kyron disappeared did not come with a warning label. It was an ordinary day. Anyone with a heart knows that those who TRULY loved Kyron would never have let him step foot into danger if TRAGEDY came with easy to read warning labels....if being a Perpetual Watchman were humanly possible.

It's not.

By making these appearances, going on Oprah, cooperating with LE, these parents are doing everything in their power now for Kyron. That is all the situation allows.

I heard someone say to a grieving Mother..."You must wish you had never let her drive." I wondered what the purpose of the comment was. Was the grieving Mother not in enough pain that being the Purveyor of Guilt, the Speaker-of-Words-that-Devastate served some kind of benign purpose?

I would wish for all who grieve the presence of people who help you fight off unnecessary guilt, the presence of people who sustain you with loving memories and the absolute absence of anyone who would add one cruel thought to a mind already enveloped in pain.

I disagree with bringing this up again. There are working parents all over this country who have to make the difficult decision to miss a school function. It's life. It happens. I'm sure Kaine and Desiree's guilt over not attending the expo that day is eating them alive and I'm sure they'd give all four limbs to go back and do it over. I don't feel it's necessary to point it out again.

I was thinking more of a news-type show that covers nothing but missing persons; I've seen "Disappeared" and it is a good show, but sadly, those are mostly cold cases, and each show covers only one case, so they might manage to highlight about 8 or cases per season. AMW seems to focus on drug dealers and gang-related crimes lately. Too bad that Jane VM wouldn't just stick with missing women and children and use that as her platform, rather than just touching on the most provacative cases. Lots of cases don't have "media value" so they never get any coverage.

No they're still planning a segment. It's all over the local news here. I do think Kyron's spot will be a short one though with other subjects covered that day as well.

Thank you, Oprah, for devoting a little bit of your time to Kyron. He is loved by so many across this nation and the world.

There are so many missing persons in this world, and media time (like all time) is so limited... so I want to thank you for using your audience and your influence to bring attention to this beautiful and missing little boy.

Let's bring Kyron home.

Let's hope that Oprah focuses on Kyron being missing and not on Terri as suspect. She does tend to go for the most sensational aspect, as does any television host, so I am hoping for the best, but as a non-fan of her show and others like it..I will be a little wary.

I feel the same way you do, Cluciano. I'm wary as well.
