Identified! OR - Albany, LIVING woman found disoriented, May'12 - Marcia Rackley

There's also the Trudeau Institute, now in Saranac Lake, NY which has handled TB since 1884 in one location or another.

I hope this is a strong lead and they are able to use this info! I found several listings for Dr.'s with the same last name all over the country but oddly enough none in Maine showed up on my searches. There were many in California and one in Salem, Oregon. I hope she is Identified soon, she has been on my mind constantly.:please:

Just rec'd a message from the deputy's office, but looks like you guys already know about it! :highfive:

Here's what they sent me just in case there is something in here you guys haven't seen yet.

Linn County Undersheriff Bruce Riley reports that sheriff deputies are still seeking the identity of an elderly woman found wandering on a county road on May 15, 2012. Refer to press release from May 17, 2012.

On May 23, 2012 at the request of the State of Oregon, a Linn County Circuit Court Judge committed her to the hospital up to 180 days as a mental commitment. This request was granted due to her inability to care for herself or provide any information as to her identity or where she is from. She was found with no identification or money. Her behavior has demonstrated that she is unable to care for herself.

Detectives received numerous reports that she may be Fay Johnson who is listed as missing from the state of Maine. After contacting authorities in Maine, investigators have determined this individual is not Fay Johnson.

Detectives have confirmed through video surveillance this woman was at a Greyhound bus depot in Spokane, WA on May 13, 2012. She is seen getting off a bus and immediately going to the terminal to board a bus to Portland, OR. Detective's are working with Greyhound authorities in the United States and Canada to try and obtain additional passenger information. She is maintaining she is from Canada and Fort Kent, Maine.

Media outlets in Maine are running the story with the updated information.

The Sheriff's Office is requesting anyone with information to please call the Linn County Sheriff's Office at 541.967.3950. Refer to attached updated flyer.

The flyer can be seen here: http://www.flashalertnewswire.net/images/news/2012-05/2993/54693/12-6691.MP_Flyer_052412.pdf

So glad that this case is getting attention in areas where someone might recognize Katie!

Ft. Kent, Maine definitely isn't a place someone could just pull out of thin air. Since it's a border town, the Canada connection she mentions is quite probable. She could have easily lived in New Brunswick at some point in her life and moved to Ft. Kent later on. I found a psychiatrist named Dr. Trudeau practicing in Moncton, NB as well as a cardiologist in the same town. It's over five hours from the two cities by car, but again, Katie could originally be from the Moncton area and received treatment prior to moving to the United States.

ETA: Ft. Kent is also a 24 hour border crossing from NB into the U.S. Is it possible that KW never lived in Maine, but only crossed into the U.S. at that point?

I find it intriguing that "Katie" was able to describe her health history in such detail. Or at least with much more clarity than other topics. Maybe she was in the Health field as her profession? And is where she contracted her illness(es)?

Necco made a great point about the Trudeau Institute that deserves further consideration. Dr. Trudeau was a pioneer in the treatment of Tuberculosis, in his time. Perhaps there is a connection and "Katie" was treated at the Trudeau Institute?

If she had no money or credit cards, who bought her bus ticket(s)????? Was she robbed after her bus trip?

Oops - I just realized that the DR in D.R. Trudeau is his initials, not a doctor title.

Trudeau could have treated KW many years ago and be retired or deceased. Do you know of a way to check medical licenses that have expired?

Here's the link that says she had TB.

The Trudeau Institute stopped being a TB hospital in 1954. If she was treated there, she would have been young. I wonder if the Institute has the hospital's old records. Also worth noting, a Trudeau headed the hospital the entire time it was open, so there would have been a Dr. Trudeau there at any given time.

More than 1/2 the population of Ft Kent is bilingual. I'd be interested to know if she knows any French.

Now I'm wondering about the Portland connection. Maybe she boarded a bus bound for Portland thinking that she was going to Portland, ME?

Has anyone read where the bus to Spokane originated from? I read that it was west bound, and I'd imagine it made several stops.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if she isn't from Canada!

Maybe Fort Kent, Alberta, Canada? I wonder what "dialect" she speaks with (or accent?)

EDIT - I just received an email from Dr. Trudeau mentioned below and this Dr. Trudeau that I mentioned below does NOT know the unidentified woman.

Also - there is a Dr. Tracey Trudeau in Edmonton on the "Mood Disorders Society of Canada" Board of Directors.

From this link:
http://www.mooddisorderscanada.ca/page/board-and-staff

Board and Staff

The Mood Disorders Society of Canada is governed by a national Board of Directors, the majority of whom are consumers:

Mr. John Starzynski (President), Guelph, Ontario
Mr. Bill Ashdown, Winnipeg, Manitoba
Dr. Tracey Trudeau, Edmonton, Alberta
Dr. Chris Summerville, Steinbach, Manitoba
Dr. Vicki Smye, Bowen Island, B.C.
Mr. Bill Mussell, Chilliwack, B.C.

I wish they'd release a tape of her speaking. That would seriously help narrow down her origin. Heck, just record her saying "Lobster" and "Chowder" and I could tell you if she was originally from Maine. (This sounds trite, but I'm completely serious.)

It's apparent that she is lucid enough to interact and provide some information about herself - I'd love to see a photo where she does not appear to be asleep!!

Geez-a-lu! I have been playing around on the Greyhound site and if she traveled straight through from Maine to Spokane it is 4 days 5 transfers! Wouldn't she looked more flustered? I wanted to see all the routes to Spokane but that is proving difficult. I am still not 100% with the Maine/Canada thing. There are a lot of Dr. Trudeaus in Oregon.

I wonder if she has been roaming around on the bus lines, or did she take a logical direct route?

The only reason I lean towards some sort of Maine connection at some point in her life (and remember - it could have been 60 years ago, for all we know), is because of the Ft. Kent connection. Not a common place to have knowledge of - I'd never heard of it prior to this thread - and not the kind of place the seems likely to have been made-up out of thin air only to have it actually exist.

My research indicates that Dr Trudeau's TB asylum records do still exist. I wonder if we could find a kindly librarian who would take a gander through them.
I sent them the info via their facebook page.

Glad I submitted it. Received a very polite reply thanking me for both the tip about the sanatarium and the link to where the records are now kept. Apparently, they were aware of the Trudeau Sanatarium, but the link was helpful. They were polite and prompt. My first experience with LE was a great one. It's probably nothing, but hey, we have to try, right?

Detective Beth Miller said people are not only providing tips on Facebook but sharing information about their own Internet investigations regarding the elderly woman, who is being lodged at a hospital.

And the news is traveling around the world via Facebook as the sheriff’s office updates have been broadcast in nearly 20 languages to more than 12 countries on the website, Smith said.
