It's SOOOO beautiful there! Anyone willing to make that hike is a much braver person than I am, that's for sure.

RiP, Annie. Such a tragic loss. Relieved to hear the family will now get closure.

Knew it was going to be Munra Point, she said she wanted to hike there. What a dangerous place.

I'm happy they finally found her body.

I really think these SAR teams need to rethink how they work. Having humans search for a body in the wilderness is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. No matter how many people are searching, the results are not likely to be positive.

In cases like this, I think a better solution would be for them to close the area off, and keep everybody away. Then get a really good team of bloodhounds, and go track the person. Having hundreds of people searching is just more scents to throw the dogs off. Good dogs should be able to find a person much faster than people can anyway IMHO.

Was this an accidental fall?

I'm sure it was. So far there has been nothing to indicate suicide , in fact it's been the opposite. The common thread has been that she loved life, loved nature and she even said she has wanted to hike Munra Point. She probably just decided to do it on a whim. [emoji20]

What a beautiful place. There are many pictures on the Facebook page as well. There can be some comfort knowing she died doing what she loved. I'm just the thankful they were able to find her.

Why would it be impossible to identify? Is it too gruesome to consider? Animals have done things to the body?

I am guessing from the fall, her body would be hitting the side of the cliff or rock on the way down.

Oh Annie, this just gives me butterflies in my stomach - that hike is so treacherous! It is hard not to try to imagine what those last moments are like...we can only hope it was profound peace and no pain. RIP

There is a recent (Sun., Nov. 13, 2016), wonderful remembrance about Annie Schmidt at
https://www.facebook.com/groups/findannie

The remembrance includes two photos, from her 2015 Georgia mission days,
that I had not previously seen.
The remembrance describes some of the lasting love and care she gave to others.

Just for the record, I completely agree with dodgerchick.

Regarding the official "cause" of death, here's a link, just in case someone finds it useful:

"[Jon] Schmidt's post stated that the medical examiner noted the cause was accidental."

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/...onfirms-missing-daughters-remains.html?pg=all

(Note: Technically speaking, "accidental" is a manner -- not cause -- of death.)

I hadn't seen that the medical examiner confirmed it was Annie yet. :(

RIP Annie :rose:

The remains have been positively identified as Anna Schmidt and the Medical Examiner has released their findings.

"The Oregon State Medical Examiner ruled Schmidt's cause of death was blunt force trauma and the manner was accidental."
