Do you have more details on this confession?
The police chief, at the time, didn't die. The confession was linked to a local boy. Two local boys hung out with the wrong man that night. A man who'd just been released from prison in for a race and violent assault he committed at 16. Do I have to tell you had bad it was, if he was released in 1971 at age 31?
The police chief told me she was a foster kid and a "

" (a word for being promiscuous - which she wasn't- something his daughter, who had been at that party told him) and her death was no loss. He told the older man to leave town, to protect the younger men. When I asked him how he felt knowing that same (older) man would go on to rape and kill again and again. He proudly told me that man went 20 miles down the road and murdered a young mother in front of her baby and was caught. I asked him if he thought he could have prevented that murder... he didn't think so, because he killed again too quickly, but at least we know he was put away for that. He turned white when I said he was acquitted and went on to continue his evil life hurting women. Chief King then kicked me out of his house. I'm happy to report he died a few years later. One of the younger men died a few years ago. The younger one who begged (the confession was actually a witness) the police to arrest the older man, now lives in Washington. The younger one who participated died a couple years ago. Our man bad guy? He's still alive and kicking.... and befriending young women (who I pray are bots) on Facebook. He's now 84 and spent his life in/out of jail. His wife of 50+ years told me how women are always lying or disappearing to try to get him into trouble, because they all love him so much.
Barbara's remains were buried in Linn County. Sheriff refused to properly investigate because the honest man became an alcoholic after that night and they claim they can't prove she was murdered in Linn County (and claim jurisdiction). Stayton Police refuse to do anything (even though they have the confession statement) because the house was just outside city lines, even though witnesses say she ran away and was chased down and put in the Impala (kidnapping in Stayton city limits).
Tons of evidence of a woman erased from existance and the police not giving a damn.
And for those saying it never made it into the local newspaper. It did! I wrote about it... repeatedly.
this is my blood auntie , my daddys youngest sister.and it was not bundy,,,there was a confession soon after aunt barbaras disappearance...but no papers signed only a verbal confess and the police man who heard it passed away soon after. it was family friends who murdered her, ones who lived not far from grampas (where aunt barbara lived).
Just so everyone's clear. Barbara is missing, but Stayton Police and Linn County know who did it. We also know she was buried in Linn County. The reason they didn't pursue it wasn't because the chief died. He was a bigoted misogynist old man I interviewed, in 2000. There were 3 involved. One older man, 31, who had just been released from prison (where he'd been off/on since 16 for violent rapes) and two younger men in their early 20s/late teens. One of the young men participated. The other refused and immediately went to police, begging them to arrest the men and go dig her up. The police chief was very close to the participating young man's father and warned the older man to leave town for fear an investigation would see the younger in trouble, too.
The police chief (the police at the time of her murder) told me Barbara was a foster kid, not a local, and a "

" (something his daughter, who had been at that party told him). He said her death was no loss. He admitted he told the older man to leave town, to protect the younger men, saying he didn't want anymore trouble.
When I asked him how he felt knowing that same (older) man would go on to rape and kill again and again. He proudly told me that man went 20 miles down the road and murdered a young mother in front of her baby and was caught, only months later. I asked him if he thought he could have prevented that murder... he didn't think so, because he killed again too quickly... but he stated at least we know he was put away for that. He turned white when I said he was acquitted and went on to continue his evil life hurting women. Chief King immediately got choked up and kicked me out of his house. I'm happy to report he died a few years later.
The younger one who begged (the confession was actually a witness) the police to arrest the older man, now lives in Washington. The younger one who participated in Barbara's rape and murder died a couple years ago. Good riddance. Our main bad guy? He's still alive and kicking... and free.... and befriending young women (who I pray are bots) on Facebook. He's now 84 and spent his life in/out of jail. His wife of 50+ years told me how women are always lying or disappearing to try to get him into trouble, because they all love him so much. She burned his bloody clothes at a friend's house, after another murder.

And for those saying it never made it into the local newspaper. It did. I wrote about it... repeatedly. I faught hard to get police to take notice and conduct interviews. Cold cases just don't seem to be of any interest to these small towns, where every traffic cop gets their "turn" at playing detective for a year, before being cycled out. I spent 2 years on this for Barbara, Dolores and every other woman who lost her voice to this these two animals... and for that witness, who never stopped offering to help over 50 years!
Articles below list all the players, if you want to paste the puzzle back together, while remembering Barb.
