A crime with a personal element. How sickening. -- killers of Dave Lewis, judged his life. The evil-cruel one who tried to accuse Dave's siblings is nothing but a druggie mind, trying to redherring and distract. Hell has a place for people who are cruel and commit crimes.

Community Involvement in Case Solving. If you know something, say something. Collect the Reward $$$$$
Subject.webp

The public plays an important role in cold case resolution. Community involvement, through tips and public awareness campaigns, can provide new leads or corroborate details. Individuals coming forward with information, even years after the crime, can revitalize a stalled investigation. Citizen detectives also contribute by researching archived news, engaging online communities, and raising awareness. This can lead to new evidence…

Who burned Dave’s home to the ground? Who lit Dave on fire ? Did they torture him first ? Fight? Think they were doing something right?
Use a Bic or Matches ? Do they : Think what about themselves?

Horrible. Rewards are offered. Follow thru and do something for justice.

@Sleuth2010,

Re the information about the bullets and the forensics, I'm only repeating (word for word) what the Jackson County Sheriff Office Investigator Pollard said. Please read the linked article. Here is a summation of the quote:

"Forensics, Pollard said, do not connect Lewis' murder with one that was reported the same day. Transient Troy Carney shot to death in Central Point on the greenway."

"The bullet that killed Mr. Carney, and the one that killed Mr. Lewis are similar, but the ballistics don't match."

Imo Pollard's statement is very clear. He is saying (again jmo) that there is NO known connection between the cases.

There are things to consider though imo. Although it would be very unusual, could both TDC and DL have been killed with the same caliber bullet (I think most would agree that the most common handgun ammo sizes are .380 acp 9mm, .40 acp, .357 cal, and .45 acp, - though you will occasionally come across a smaller 22 or .25 cal.? I think it's certainly possible. Or even the same brand of the same caliber bullet? Again, possible . Even this isn't a sure link, however. Not without prints or DNA

I have taken LE's statement that the bullets were similar to mean they were possibly the same caliber (size) ammo (imo, most widely used is 9mm), - but that the marking left by the firing pin and the barrel indicated that different guns were used in each crime.

This alone does not 100 percent discount any possible connection, but it points more in the direction of there being no connection - than in the direction of them being connected

Yes I am familiar with the area roads from Google Maps. I have not personally travelled them. I also know (or knew - l(would have to look back at my notes to remind myself) who lives along DIMR within a couple of miles in each direction from DL's.

Imo there are several in the DIMR / Hyatt Lake area that might have been in conflict with DL for one reason or another. I have other personal POI's as well that I can't mention here - I don't think any of them though knew TDC.

Without absolutely being 100 percent sure that the crimes are specifically connected, imo it is safer, more direct, and less biased if both investigation teams first focus on the facts found in just their respective investigations. Otherwise, possible rabbit holes, There was one poster here a while back (RC if I remember correctly) who was convinced that one of DL's siblings was a possible perp

You wouldn't believe the hoop jumping this OP had to do to make such a scenario fit both crimes: when did they drive, with whom, when did they fly, when did they return to their home state, and when did they come back? Were they camping? Did they just happened to meet TDC at Central Point Truck Stop? Did they own a handgun? Would have owned or access to two? Why weren't they on Pilot cctv if they had met TDC there? Not saying it's totally impossible, but, it's just a case of trying to force facts to fit an already established narrative that could be flawed

I'm as frustrated as you are, and want both crimes solved yesterday. There has been no Justice for Dave and Troy. The cases should not be cold cases. And imo, LE owes the public some more information to push the case along (it's been 17 years)

All jmo

Absolutely right the cases should not be cold!! Detectives did want to make arrests at the time. Why it didn’t happen?? Troy Carney’s case May hold more answers because of his phone, known travel, who he stayed with in Talent, Oregon and what OTHER (things or people) connected Dave and Troy ? That’s where websleuths may be able to make other connections that are not being revealed by law enforcement. Could Troy’s case share more on the registered-sex offender(s) who were staying with his friend, G.G.? We know Dave ( and his dad, sisters, brother and mom) all believed US laws are too lax concerning crimes against children. They were all advocates for good. We know Dave was friendly and had let, “ a homeless guy,” use facilities at Hyatt Lake and that BM had some row over soda cans and threatened Dave. Also, his gf down the road, was polygraphed. At least, twice.

“ Lewis, 46, was found Sept. 4, 2008, inside his secluded mountaintop cabin on Dead Indian Memorial Road. He had deep roots in the community and was known for protecting the land and helping neighbors. Detectives have declined to say how Lewis died, and have said the fire destroyed the cabin and much of the evidence.

///

By releasing the information that the crimes might be linked, detectives hope someone might contact the department with information connecting the victims. Fagan said investigators are “fairly certain” Lewis and Carney never spoke to each other, but believe they have a piece of evidence that links the crimes. He declined to specify what it is.”

With all due respect @Sleuth2010, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Quoting from your post, but with my emphasis / CAPS:

"By releasing information that the crimes MIGHT be linked, detectives hope someone might CONTACT THE DEPARTMENT WTH INFO CONNECTING THE VICTIMS"

I just don't think LE is sitting back thinking: "hey, let's try a strategy of suggesting the two crimes are linked - and see if anybody who hasn't come forward with information will come forward with information telling us that they are linked"

To me, by INSISTING that the two crimes MUST be linked, you've added another variable to solving the equation - to solving either crime. Now, any tip or proposed theory that comes in to LE - on either case.. - if LE can't make it fit the theory of TWO connected murders, they just set the tip aside as it doesn't fit the preconceived narrative of connected crimes

This is probably not for this thread, and it is just my theory - but I think that TDC was killed by somebody who he encountered while staying at GG's house who was mentally unstable. I think TDC even snuck out of GG's in the middle of the night because he was so afraid of this seemingly disturbed, paranoid, and aggressive person. I think this individual may have found TDC in the Greenway one or two nights later and killed him (possibly with a gun that he had taken from GG's house). All pure speculation

I hope both Dave and Troy's cases are solved asap. So many people care, and It's been way too long

Jmo
