Nov 1/2, 2025 article

[…]

According to the sheriff's office, deputies located Dobek's truck near the Fish Creek Trailhead, off Southeast Highway 225 and 54 Road, but didn't find any signs of a deer or Dobek, who friends are describing as an experienced hunter with appropriate gear.

Search and Rescue coordinators and volunteers began searching the area at 10:30 p.m. and continued throughout the night. Members of the rescue team reported hearing gunshots at various times throughout the night, which are presumed to be from the missing hunter, but were unable to pinpoint the exact location, the sheriff's office said.

Scary that they heard gunfire but couldn’t locate him. He probably saw and heard the helicopters and was trying to get their attention.

I don't know if any of it's allowed to be posted and there is nothing on the news sites yet - but the private search has been ongoing and extensive since the official one ended, and an update was posted on the GoFundMe today.

This time of year, it's also possible the gunshots were from other hunters, but it definately warranted more focused searching to sse if it was him or not. Rainy and in the 40' tonight, I hoping he had rainproof gear and perhaps a tent.

I saw the same thing on one of the national find pages (update). Guess we wait for MSM confirmation 😟

What a tragic accident. I’m trying to understand how it occurred without seeing the terrain. He was packing the buck out of a canyon or valley and fell off a steep trail?

Hunting is not allowed after sunset.

It looks like he slipped off a steep trail.
In this video they point out approximately where he was found and you can see the terrain. He fell part way down a steep wooded slope.
(I've started the clip at 7:05 into the video.)

The Clackamas County medical examiner confirmed Tuesday that remains found Nov. 16 in the Mount Hood National Forest are those of missing hunter Devon Dobek, who disappeared more than two weeks earlier.

The medical examiner ruled the 51-year-old’s death accidental. No additional details were released about how he died.
