Found Deceased OR - Evan Goin, 44, Army vet, 4 overseas tours, welfare check, car @ home, Hamlet, 13 Dec 2021

Evan Goin, a veteran with four overseas tours, was reported missing from his U.S. Highway 26 home last week.

Searchers and canine crews have been unsuccessful in their search, Sgt. Bruce Scott of the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

“We have called off the search as far as the search and rescue aspect of it for now,” Scott said.

According Clatsop County Sheriff Matt Phillips, a full investigation has been opened by his department, although the ground search has ceased.

Possible MH crisis.

The Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office was called to do a welfare check on December 13, saying Evan had not attempted to contact his family or shown up to work.

Authorities said Goin might be in a mental health crisis, adding “Evan was reported to have been shooting at unknown items on his property hours earlier.”

They will be using a drone to search some areas they have not been able to access on foot, Rhea Goin, who was with Evan Goin for five years, said.

A group of his fellow soldiers and friends are planning to go out and search again Sunday, Goin said. “He is somewhere,” she said. “Evan is skilled in hiking and survival.”

Wow, thanks for catching that. I see that his profile was modified today so I guess I was checking the Oregon cases right at that time. It makes sense now, cuz the resolved Oregon cases did not go up by one case if I remember well.

I see that his NamUs page is still up but there are several reports that he was found deceased. One of them is the article below, and I don't think I can link the other two - The Hamlet Rural Fire Department FB, where he volunteered, and his FB Find page.

Evan was lost to us in December 2021 when he left his home on foot and did not return. Several searches proved futile, until remains were found in the forest

Evan was lost to us in December 2021 when he left his home on foot and did not return. Several searches proved futile, until remains were found in the forest near his home in Sept 2022.

Evan was born in Portland OR and grew up in Silverton where he attended Bethany Elementary and Silverton High School. He was a 12 sport varsity letterman, in cross country, wrestling and track all 4 years. He continued his running attending Clackamas Community College and graduating from Eastern Oregon University. He went to National finals all four years of his college running career.

Evan was a volunteer for the Hamlet Rural Fire Department, and assisted many rescues of injured hikers on and near Saddle Mt., as well as responding to frequent auto accidents on Hwy 26, rendering aid and comfort to the injured. He had a heart of compassion and a deep sense of duty. He will be deeply missed by his family and his community as a hero and a friend.

Evan loved his little farm and the many animals he kept. He was an avid woodsman and hunter. The highest passion was his pride in his 4 daughters. He attended their every school activity and sports event he could.
