Oregon dad 'faked burglary to cover up theft of $740 from his daughter's Girl Scout cookie sales' | Daily Mail Online

An Oregon father is accused of faking a burglary to cover up the theft of more than $700 from his daughter's Girl Scout cookie sales after calling police to his home.

Brian Couture, 40, was found 'unresponsive' after claiming a thief had entered through a sliding glass door at the Forest Grove house, police say.

Couture is said to have told officers a struggle had taken place during the alleged incident last month and he is seen with a black eye in his mugshot.

But when the area was searched and no suspect was located police say Couture, who was taken to hospital, admitted to staging the attack.

Couture has pleaded not guilty to charges of initiating a false report and improper use of an emergency reporting system.

Forest Grove Police captain Michael Hall told KGW8 News: 'There's a distinct difference between being unconscious and being unresponsive.'

In a statement police said: 'Couture admitted to Forest Grove Police investigators that the alleged incident was staged.

'Investigators believe that Couture staged the incident in order to conceal the theft of money belonging to a non-profit organization, that was spent inappropriately.'

And a Girl Scouts spokeswoman confirmed Couture has a daughter in the organization and there is around $740 in missing cookie sales.

Oh, man. How low can you go stealing your little girl's Girls Scout Cookie money and then filing a false police report.

What did he need the money for? Did he lose his job? Does he gamble? Have a gf on the side?

And how do you face your daughter (who is gonna get ridiculed at school) because you are such a loser?

This is gonna cost the family more money for the bail and court costs.....

That's pretty bizarre behavior on his part.

Or drugs? What a pathetic individual.
No-one is going to let him forget this in a hurry.

Interesting to see the fall out from this legally. $740 of theft and filing a report with the time and money spent to investigate vs someone staging a hoax costing $130,000 + -$10,000 and 16 counts of alleged violations...
