Evidence of missing woman not yet processed; no signs of foul play

The fingerprints found inside the car of the missing woman who was last seen in Grants Pass almost 8 months ago have not been processed. Fauna Frey’s family continues to search for her and Scott McKee, a law enforcement consultant is assisting them with the search.


McKee, a retired police officer with 35 years of experience explained the evidence found included some of her belongings, food she had just purchased, and fingerprints.

“By necessity and because of their workload, the Oregon State Police crime lab prioritizes their work based on their own criteria, and a cold missing person case is understandably a little lower on the priority list,” McKee noted.

He said the fingerprints have yet to be processed because there is no evidence that a crime was committed.

I would agree with that, except that who the fingerprints belong to definitely could turn this into a criminal investigation. If they weren't her's the chances go way up. If they match a criminal or sex criminal then absolutely it is a criminal case. 8 months is ridiculous.

Errr, okay!?! --We're not in a rush to test these fingerprints, which could be evidence of a crime, b/c we have no evidence of a crime.-- I suppose they're thinking if Fauna was a victim of a crime, the perp will kindly send them a packet of evidence. Maybe then they'll analyze the prints? Come on, OSP. Y'all can do better than that.

LIVID! how many finger prints do they have to process there first?!? There are specialists for that. They could send the evidence to any metro area for other professionals to process, i cannot believe that specific excuse.
This could be an abduction or murder! So unfathomable, irresponsible and disrespectful.

This case reminds me of the Leah Roberts case. She was driving around and sleeping in her jeep in rural areas of WA, and her vehicle was found abandoned down a remote old logging road, with no sign of her, or a struggle.

Found in her car:
*empty package to 3 palm size flashlights
*empty package to AM/FM Radio

The palm sized flashlights have really stuck out to me since the beginning. A picture of them was posted on HFFF recently. They seem so inadequate, yet she was described as a very experienced hiker by the admins of HFFF and her father. If she was an experienced hiker, why didn't she have or purchase a high powered flashlight or a headlamp instead? Small detail, but it's been driving me absolutely crazy!

The empty packages of flashlights and radio make me think she went out exploring since these items were not found in her car. Also, her car was locked and purse gone per HFFF, so I'm not sensing foul play. However, it's not outside the realm of possibility that someone could have set up the scene to make it look like she left of her own volition when in reality she didn't...

One of the HFFF moderators was on the podcast for the last episode and said that a box of dark colored hair dye was also found in her jeep. This strikes me as so strange! Her father also said in one of the earlier podcasts that she was reading books about going off the grid before she went missing. He speculates that she could have chosen to vanish...

IMO/Speculation:
I don't think she would go this long without contacting her father, as they were very close. It sounds to me like she could be suffering from a mental breakdown/trauma induced psychosis. There are a lot of homeless encampments in this area where she could be if she was mentally impaired. I hope that's the case and she didn't just wander off into the woods, but sadly that's the vibe I've been getting, especially due to the flashlights, radio, and purse missing, as well as the car being locked (all per HFFF)

I still think people should be actively canvassing the area adjacent to where her vehicle was located, as well as making contact with homeless encampments in case she somehow managed to end up in one.

Oregon, for such a small sparsely populated state sure has got quite the problem. It's more than 1 woman going missing every 2 weeks!

As far as I know there has been no investigation into the matter, but I'd love to be wrong
