Oh man, this just makes me sick.

I agree, one strike and they're in prison for life. And, I think we should brand them, too (remember the thread about "Katie's Revenge"?) just in case they get out somehow.
I agree w/ya here, never had thought of that, brand them in case they ever get out again, LOVE IT Brand them ,and uh, Then CUT IT OFF!

Because we don't live in Iraq where they kill you brutally if one person says you did something wrong. I'll take our way any day.

Plenty of innocent people have hung in other countries based on their confession. I'm not saying that's the case with these two - I'm saying I believe in a public trial with a vigorous prosecution and a vigorous defense for every person charged with a crime. Our system is by no means perfect, but there's not a better one around.

Stone cold case is in the eye of the beholder. Certainly there are no stone cold cases to be found in a ten paragraph newspaper article and a 45-second news article.

If these people have admitted to this crime, let them do it in open Court in front of a Judge with legal counsel at their side.

That's not what I said and it's certainly not what I meant. I think you are missing my point.

I, like you, think that the couple at issue in this case are probably guilty. But I wouldn't want them or anyone else sent to jail without going through our legal process without an attorney. They can plea or they can have a trial. I'm grateful every day to live in a country where this is the case.

I am a fan of a legal system that is open to the public. I am a fan of a legal system wherein both sides get to present their case in front of a Judge and/or a jury. I am a fan of a legal system that has checks and balances.

I dont disagree with most of what you state- we do however usually disagree on defense attorneys- I agree they are necessary- I dont agree most times, what they do, when they in fact know the client is guilty- and when it comes to abuse or murder of children.............I cant even go there-

That's the thing - we can't have the system we have without defense attorneys willing to defend their clients zealously...in fact, you can be disbarred if you don't defend a client zealously. Even if you believe your client to be guilty, you must defend them.

I'm not saying there aren't some slimeball defense attorneys. There are - just as there are some slimeball prosecutors. And I'm not saying that I could defend the worst of the worst - but someone's got to or our system would fall apart and be meaningless.

It sounds like there is enough independent evidence against the husband and wife in this case (confession or no confession) to make a conviction stick. I really think they will make a plea and when you make a plea, you have to allocute in open court - that's what I was referring to in my other post.
