Once inside, Wahlroos was disturbed by Jeanette’s wasted, battered appearance and McAnulty’s “odd” behavior and statements that the girl had simply been sleeping in the living room when her heart stopped.

“It was one of the feelings on the back of my neck that something was absolutely not right,” he said, adding: “I wanted to run away.”

He went outside and called a supervisor to report that he suspected abuse. Then, for the first time in his 18-year career, he cried after his shift."

I can't repeat the torture this child endured. They could not determine a COD there were too many possibilities.

The death penalty is too good for her abusers.

That's the most horrendous thing I've read here at WS, or anywhere for that matter. I couldn't finish reading the article. Horrific and unimaginable abuse. What kind of monster is this ??!!

OMG that one was bad! They mentioned a recent head injury. And looking at the other injuries this child had, the abscesses and pneumonia she would have been too ill to have done anything other than lay around recently! So did she get the head injury because she was laying around? Or because she bled on something?

Still physically and spiritually sickened by this one. I had hoped with a few hours of distance, to let some of the horrific details of the articles receed a bit but that did not happen. I just don't understand how you can do that to your own flesh no less. That article will haunt me I am afraid.

We actually have the luxury of recovering in some respects because we have only our imaginations to fight with. The first responders, the medex, the hospital staff, and now the jury and the judge-how will they live with these images I wonder?

I think her cell should be plastered with the photos...I think, personally, that her fellow inmates should find out exactly what this woman is capable of. I think the case workers should have two on their desks-the image of a whole Jeanette and the image of what happened to her in the four years they failed her.

It is easy for me to judge-it is hard to swallow what occurred when her teachers and those around her who actually cared for her did everything right.

As for step father-I doubt he will take his chances at trial either. Same punishment for him-he should have to see the results of their "handiwork" spread around that cell. His fellow prisoners should know...they should know how very very weak he is that he needed to participate in this nightmare.

I'm not going to paste snips from this. It's too graphic. I'll let everyone decide if they want to read it. The photo says "play now" so I assume it's a video of his interview.

One of the articles I read said that Jeanette's severe torture "lasted months". I think not. I think it goes far back. They've found Jeanette's DNA in blood spatters at a house the family lived several months before she died. I think it was escalating but I'm sure pain and torture was all Jeanette knew. I think that's why she was so compliant and timid.

I rarely ask my family members to read about cases but I did this one. Our entire family is in prayer and meditation this weekend for Jeanette. We currently have a 16 year old foster daughter who was horribly abused and who was not permanently removed from her adoptive family until DHS had received 26 founded reports on the child. She's a Munchausen's by Proxy survivor who barely survived an overdose and has permanent neurological damage from the overdose. She's been with us for over 2 years and will be our daughter forever. I think she came to us at the very 11th hour and is healing. It's a joy to watch. She's our swan song and a sweet one it is.

I wanted our family to fully understand why we jump through hoops to please DHS. Why every single Tylenol must be recorded, firedrills held on schedule, monthly visits, every respite person fingerprinted, all door locks (even the front door) removed or disabled. It's a pain. We're a good family with an excellent track record. As if we don't know how to raise a child? We've privately groaned and whined about it for the last two years. Never again. Never again. I thank God for every eye on our child. If DHS is putting us through this level of scrutiny (and it has increased since Jeanette's death), we know they are putting every family through more scrutiny. At this point, this is all we can do for Jeanette.

OK-well lesson learned on the back of this angel-call the police. BYPASS CPS-call the cops...OH MY GOD. What kind of sadist tortures and maims their own child? I wish I believed in hell. All I can do is hope that this child did not die in vain.

I agree. After hearing all these stories, I would never call CPS (of course, how was the grandmother to know).

Call 911, ask for a wellness check -- whatever it takes to get them out there stat!

All I can do is sit here and cry. The inhumanity of it all, the absolute, sheer evil. My stomach is churning and I wish now I hadn't eaten dinner.

That poor poor child, rest now little girl, justice will be yours soon, and peace already is.

I'm sick - literally sick. Looking over at my precious son who's playing x-box with his friends, going to get a haircut in a few. To think Jeanette never had a slight chance for a normal upbringing. But what hurt me to the core, and why I believe this is DP warranted, is not only the beating, torture, massacre, but that the egg donar actually said:

"Help my baby," her mother, Angela McAnulty, told the first responders to a 911 call reporting Maples had stopped breathing.


HER BABY! She no longer became her baby the minute she beat her with a stick, belt, and various other items.

Mothers do NOT do this to their children.

Way too easy of an out for "it". I'm always the first one to jump on the bandwagon of not agreeing that taxpayers should pay for 3 hots and a cot. But in this case, I hope she gets LWOP and the prison population has a field day with her. I pray every inmate knows what she did she and is reminded every single day for the rest of her pitiful life. Throw the inmates a couple of belts and sticks too while they're at it.

I'd say that would be taxpayer dollars well spent.

Thanks. Mood disorder? Really? Dang, I'd sure like to see how a mood disorder = killing your child in such a horrific way. This just wasn't a one-of, it lasted for God knows how long. Snapping and losing it with your child is one thing (though equally as horrid), but this was such a long, drawn out, and pre-meditated killing. What did the mother think was gonna happen after all the beatings, starvings, drinking from the toilet.

My heart aches for you Jeanette. I hope you find many angels who will wrap their wings around you.

I cannot get past the spatter room and the fact that her infected wounds were "trimmed of the decaying flesh" in order to avoid having to seek treatment. IMO, the incubator and her husband need to face the worst possible penalty afforded by the law and agree that both of their cels should be plastered with that child's image so that they must face their victim on all sides, always.

Sick sick sick. It will be a long time before I get over this one.

I do think that sometimes when scapegoating happens, the child sometimes (not always) resembles or acts like someone the perp has a grudge against. JMHO
