It sounds like he was in a terrible environment and not being cared for properly, but I wanted to mention:
  • They also said Joshie was a picky eater and that AG "would typically feed them pizza, chicken nuggets, cookies, candy, marshmallows, dry cereal, and chocolate milk."
This is common with autistic children, who often have ARFID and many parents feed their children what might be considered a poor diet bacuse they will accept very limited food and the most important thing is to get enough calories into them (advice of dieticians). The rest is just so upsetting. I feel for Joshie.

Another case I'm starting to lose patience with since Oregon doesn't let much info out in cases like this.

C'mon guys... what's the hold up??

German told police that she fell asleep about 1 p.m. on the last day she saw her son alive. She woke up four hours later to find the door open and ducks wandering in the home, the report said.

Police would later note that the home was filthy, with garbage, moldy food and duck feces throughout.
Oregon child welfare workers fielded extensive complaints about homelife of boy who died in woods

sentence two sounds as if it is meant to imply that the ducks weren't normally given free reign of the house and that they had only just done all that pooing because Joshie left the door open. Ducks for four hours inside would not leave a home "filthy with duck feces "throughout".

JMO those ducks regularly roamed the house. Super unsanitary.

correct. And dieticians that specialise in pediatrics, especially inclusive/special needs pediatrics, will work with this diet rather than trying to stop it. They will work out what nutrients they're getting already and then work out if there's stuff that can be added (including supplements) rather than taking any of it away. Feeding therapy is a very long, very slow process. You don't approach the diet of an autistic child with ARFID anything at all like you would a typical child.

not that I'm defending this case at all. Just parents dealing with ARFID generally.

Pizza, dry cereal, and chocolate milk, while not an ideal diet, could theoretically provide them with enough vitamins and minerals to stave off outright malnutrition. But was he OFFERED anything else?

I agree, ducks roaming the house for 4 hours would not create a health hazard.

Honestly, there are so many greater concerns than this child's diet - let's cut the judgment there.

I myself was a super picky eater as a kid and I'm sure my diet was less than healthy. That improved as I aged. I also had a child who would only eat about 6 or 7 foods and they now have a varied diet as an adult. This woman feeding her son chicken nuggets and chocolate milk was the least of the issues going on.

This is old news but I don't recall hearing that they were searching for Joshie's mother last December. Apologies if I'm the only one that didn't recall that. :p

Why is this case not getting any traction? Yes, the link below is OLD news (over a year old) but it says that per the search warrent, they believe he was murdered. Why no news about Joshie's mother? Why no arrest? Just what the heck is going on here??

Right at the moment, I am not considering any criminal charges," said Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier. "The only way I would change my mind on this is if the toxicologic reports come back and tell us something different. The information that we've gathered since that affidavit clearly shows that this child was not a homicide victim."

"At this point everything points to this being, unfortunately, a horrible, tragic accident," Frasier continued. "The autopsy found different evidence to suggest that in fact the child had been walking in the woods. The evidence at this point is clear, to my satisfaction, that the child, how he got there, was that he got out of his house, and he wondered into the woods until the place that we found him."
Sheriff: Autopsy shows 5-year-old Joshua McCoy died of hypothermia

I want to know what evidence was located on autopsy indicating he had walked all that way to his eventual death. But I highly doubt we will ever hear about it because the sheriff has decided there is nothing at all to see here. Tragic accident my butt. pfft
bumping this post with an article Updated Mon, December 16th 2024 at 7:35 AM which says the state has no intention of ever charging this mother for even so much as neglect. :( RIP Joshie.

The DA has blood on his/her hands, then.
Appalling.
IMO.

I am unable to access reports in the Uk. I did follow back at the start but memory is sketchy. Was drug paraphernalia found at the mother and Js home? And disgustingly dirty as well. Also wasn’t Mums career as a civil servant? So very sad
IMO

Depends on what you mean by drugs. Street drugs (not that I'm aware) or prescription drugs (yes). You could search this thread for ketamine for more info.

No to her being a civil servant but weren't not allowed to sleuth anyone not named a POI so not saying more on that.

From this article:
During their investigation, police later learned that DHS had opened a case against German over claims of neglect and mistreatment towards McCoy. During a search of the home, police described unsanitary conditions, as well as several prescription pill bottles, syringes, and an unused box of Narcan in German’s bedroom.

Ok point taken thanks for the reminders. I also just recalled the fact that his feet were spotlessly clean. Odd coming from a filthy home and embarking on a stomp through the woods

Yep. He sure didn't teleport or float there. He was placed there IMO.

The boy was naked and partially under some brush, but had no scratches or mud on his body, including the bottoms of his feet, court documents said.

Right?? There's no way that sweet boy got there by himself. And it makes me think that he was bathed before placement.
I wonder if LE even knows where his mother is at this point.
With all of the medication found at the house, she may not even be alive. Very sad case with no justice in sight.
IMO.
