Just announced on CNN that the sheriff is calling today's search a recovery effort.........no longer being called a "rescue" effort. VERY SAD!

Can it get worse! Guess it would be better than not finding them at all.

I'm not sure if I would mind the risk so much if the activity, say mountain-climbing, were done in better weather conditions AND the person wore or carried some type of device specifically made to help others searching for you. Not a cell-phone, etc.

I'm with you Tm; if I am going to do any halfway risky physical activity, I would prefer perfect weather, between 60 and 65 would do it for me. But having said that, I can remember breaking the ice off of everything when camping while deer hunting, and skin diving for abalone in frigid waters at the crack of dawn. It's exhilerating to feel the extremes; those were all very memorable experiences.

That is just so incredibly sad.. these were guys in their prime of life... I just cant imagine the heartbreak their family and friends are enduring at the moment. I can only hope that by some miracle they are found alive but at mimimum I hope they are found for those who loved them best..My most sincere prayers are extended to all who knew these men personally .

Well we can only hope that they find them regardless of the outcome. instead of them staying up there and not having a proper burial if they have indeed passed on.

That exhilaration you mention must be addicting and I wonder if that's what leads people to these activities in less safe conditions.

I know what ya mean, I felt that way too when I hitchhiked from Texas to PA one winter.

Well, actually Buzz, I did it a few times - with my X-husband when he was my husband.......

1) I was in Texas
2) My family lived in PA
3) We had no money
4) We had no car

MOUNT HOOD, Ore. - As the rescue effort continues on Mount Hood, so do the costs, which some critics are saying is way too much.

Sheriff Joe Wampler with the Hood River County Sheriff's Office has said all along that he is not looking at the cost of the rescue, he is looking for the men. One of them, 48-year-old Kelly James, was found dead in a snow cave over the weekend. The two others, 37-year-old Brian Hall and 36-year-old Jerry Cooke, remain missing.

Rosie O'Donnell and her co-hosts kicked off 'The View' Tuesday with the hot topic of the missing climbers on Mount Hood.

Rosie O'Donnell: "I read in the papers that over $2.5 million the search has cost so far to find these three men."
