What are some of the possible scenerios? He could have wandered off but that isn't likely. I don't think the school would just let a child walk off the campus without seeing him or stopping him but that is possible. He could have gone to the science fair and then left with the step mother right afterwards for some reason. Someone could have taken him (other then the step mother) from the school but that doesn't seem likely. I just don't know what else could have happened.

I don't see him walking down to the road.. I personally would never walk down
that road..
I am thinking he could have wandered off out behind the school or.. he was taken away in a vehicle?? Just thinking out loud and praying he is found safe..

very easy to point fingers when the media has everything messed up and backwards.

i usually get a feel for what is going on but my gut tells me nothing cause the reporting is awful.

PPS sent an automated phone message to parents of students at Skyline Elementary, but parents of students at other schools across the district have also reported getting the message. PPS Spokesman Matt Shelby said the message was only intended to go to Skyline parents, but he said it's good that more people may be aware of the missing child.

Hate to quote my own post.......but, if the school policy is like it is here, a call is made to the home to inquire why the child is not in class. If there is no answer, than it would be logged/recorded at the school that a call was made but no answer/reply was the result.

They did ask authorities about that tonight on the news, but a clear answer was never given..

Late Friday night the search for 7-year-old Kyron Horman was upgraded to a major crimes team investigation which brings in the FBI. Officials said the search was upgraded because the FBI has more resources.

AND

Shelby said Horman’s parents weren’t notified when he was marked absent because Skyline doesn’t have an auto-dialer which calls parents to report the student is absent. Shelby said the school doesn’t have such a system because it doesn’t have problems with attendance.

One wouldn't expect any elementary school to have a problem with attendance like say, in a high school where students are older and have access to vehicles, etc.

I live in a small town (pop. 7,000) and there is a protocol in place here for a call home by the school office for students whose absence in class has not been called in by a parent/guardian. This call is made within the first hour of start of classes.

Their policy LACKS, obviously.

WHO beside the stepmother laid eyes on this child at this school that morning??

I was watching a local tv news report which said a teacher saw him at the science fair with his stepmother.
So the school thought he had left with the stepmother, since he was no longer at school, and the stepmother watched him walk to the classroom before she left.

This appears to be in conflict, but news is often incorrect at the onset of a case.

My thoughts were that I was hoping someone was looking into who all was at the science fair, since people other than teachers, and students were there, ie, the stepmother. Other parents must have been there as well if the info is correct.

My prayres are with him tonight, and with the family, and with LE.
It's been raining for weeks here. This afternoon was the first sight of blue sky for about ten days. More rain is expected for the weekend.
But since he was last seen in the morning, sunshine is not likely to be the reason he wasn't where he was suppose to be.

I would guess that if he left with someone other then his stepmother then someone would have seen it but this school doesn't really seem to be on top of things. No notification when a child misses school? I'm glad my child didn't go there. As I recall, my childrens school always called me, I know they did in middle school and high school but I seem to remember elementary school calling, too.

The schools where I am have a time in the evening when parents can attend but for parents who don't work during the day they are welcome to come anytime. The kids generally are taken to school if their project is too much to handle on the bus and sometimes they need help setting them up.

Even the school official is saying he was at school, not saying he saw him or he was seen at school...there is a difference...I'm just hoping this is all bad reporting and he was seen there and he wandered away from school and they are close to finding him-what is the temperature there, anyone know?

Right now it's 52 degrees.

Since class didn't start until ten, and the stepmother left him at 8:45 heading to his classroom, and he wasn't in class, something happened between 8:45 and 10:00 am.

Since the stepmother was walking from class to class with him, the science fair was occurring in many classrooms, and people other than students, and teachers were in the school.

Usually schools doors are locked, once school starts, all except the front door, and anyone who enters a school who isn't suppose to be there, must sign in at the office. They are locked from the outside only though, so you can exit, but you can't enter once the doors are locked.

That was protocol in my area of Oregon years ago.

The science fair may have been an opportunity for someone outside the school community, ie, parents, teachers, and students, to enter the school without being questioned.

I do hope they have thoroughly searched the school building.
I also wonder if the projects were taken home by parents before class started, thus it wouldn't have been noticable to see a child helping an adult carry a project to a car as the fair was ending.

Just wondering, does anyone know what happens at morning science fairs?
Do people have to sign in as they enter the building?
Do people take the projects home before class starts?

I have to say that after poor little Ethan I am become even more jaded about these things, especially when you throw a step parent into the equation but looking at step mom's Facebook there is absulutely nothing that sets me off. She seems older and mature and has lots of family and support. Now I am thinking that someone from the science fair or maybe even someone that works at the school took him. I don't believe he wandered off but I suppose that is a possibility. I hope they check out that school thoroughly though.
