Sauvie Island has a lot of farmland and a couple of beaches. It's very popular for berry picking in the summer (used to go there all the time as a kid) and its pumpkin patch and corn maze in the fall. You can actually get in quite a traffic jam when everyone wants their pumpkin! On nice days, people will go the beaches to get some sun.

Thanks for this info., law enforcement was searching there today, any ideas on where a body could be hidden or why they conducted a search in that area? TIA

Hi cakegirl!

I'll let Bern answer this. I just thought I'd mention you can always look up a poster's posts via the WS search functions if you want to learn more about their posting style.

enjoy!

Emma,

you know how to put a girl on the spot. I have had some "luck" if you will in some of the cases. Not all on WS, but have been correct in some areas of the cases. I pray Kyron is found soon, I feel so bad for the family. Ask for Divine Intervention for Kyron, God hears all our prayers.

Missing 7 year old Oregon Boy, Kyron Horman: A parents worst fear!

This case proves that nowhere is 100% "safe" for our children, it's really sad. Every time I hear a story about a child being killed, hurt or kidnapped, my heart sinks.

Kyron went missing on June 4th, the dates I see are 6th and 7th.

You are absolutely right and I was figuring out the date in my head wrong without looking at a calendar. I guess I'll blame it on being blonde mixed with a little gray.

Has it ever been mentioned in any media reports where the SM's mother lives?

I haven't heard much about her or from her since the earliest days of Kyron's disappearance. Somehow I got the sense she is fairly local to where the Horman's live. Regarding all the questions of where was the 18 month old when SM took Kyron to school and later ran errands, perhaps she was with SM's mother, especially if SM had a fairly busy day planned with science fair, errands, online poker, talent show, etc.

Wow, there are a lot of places in a remote area like that, but the ones that come to mind are the corn fields and the lake.

ETA: my working theory is that they are searching areas where they've received a tip. There is so much forest out here that it would be hard to decide where to go otherwise. JMO.

I must admit, when I first saw the picture of another little boy with glasses, my heart broke all over again for Ethan. How many times can a heart break? I don't know.

Ethan sweetie, whisper in the police's ear if you can help look out for another little boy.

BBM - That is one of the sweetest things I have ever read and brought me to tears. From your mouth to God's ear. Bless you

Can anyone tell me is there an area where it is lower income many cars not running and home in need of repair, close to Kyrons School?

Yes, a poster has said that this is the case. I don't know on what thread or what road.

Aw shucks, Bern! You're amazing! I've told ya so myself! :blushing:

:praying: for Kyron

What does go "bush" mean? If it's x-rated, I don't want to know...just kidding.

People just camp out for the summer - free rent- even some locals do and rent their homes to the tourists. X rated stuff goes on i'm sure:crazy: moo

Is there more than one pumpkin patch? Someone posted an arial view of the school maybe the first or second day and I noticed it then. It was left of the school looking down on Google Earth. The sign read, Pumpkin Patch and Trees. Not sure if that was the complete sign, just what I saw.

What is out on Sauvie Island? Wilderness? Shopping? Tourist attractions? Houses? Places to run errands?
If you look at puf's map, you can see that Sauvie is mostly farms near the Hwy 30 side. The river channel you see between the highway and the Sauvie Island road has houseboat moorings (near where the little store is).
It's also a wild bird reserve. There is only one way on and off the island, the bridge directly next to the SAR/equine staging area.

Can anyone tell me is there an area where it is lower income many cars not running and home in need of repair, close to Kyrons School?

Yes, yes there is.

I don't know Oregon at all, but is Sauvie Island anywhere near where RSO Tony Phipps was picked up attempting to abduct the 11 year old the other day?

Yes, yes it is. There is no mention of Phipps having a car; today's news says he lives in a tent on the edge of St Helens. you can find St Helens on the map (link in my sig) by going west on Hwy 30, which runs below Kyron's home and school.

Can you just go there, park, and walk to pick berries, go to the water, or just take a walk? Is it an area you have to check into say for parking or to buy tickets to pick berries? TIA

Would you implant a microchip in your child?

With the search still ongoing for 7-year-old Kyron Horman, who disappeared from his Portland, Oregon, elementary school on Friday, some parents are wondering whether it's worth taking the idea of implanted tracking devices for kids more seriously.

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, about 800,000 children are reported missing, but more than half of them are runaways or only missing temporarily. About 204,000 were kidnapped by members of their own family, and 58,000 were kidnapped by non-family members whom they know, and just 115 of them were the stereotypical, headline-making "snatched off the street" abductions involving "someone the child does not know or a slight acquaintance who holds the child overnight, transports the child 50 miles or more, kills the child, demands ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently."

This is my first post here. I began reading websleuths when Nadia Bloom went missing.

My family lived in the same neighborhood as Tony & Desiree for several years, so Kyron's disappearance hits a chord that's close to home. Tony doesn't have any kids of his own (for those who wondered). Desiree had Kyron & his older brother for several weeks during the summer & at other times during the year while her ex-husband had primary custody. My kids played with Kyron when he was at his mom's.

I don't blame Desiree for not being touchy-feely with Terri. As a mother, I'd be very upset with the person who was last with my child ~ I would feel as though that person was responsible, even if it was completely illogical. Also, Terri is married to her ex-husband, so it's not surprising that they would not be bosom buddies. I also can understand Terri seeking reassurance from Desiree ~ after all, she (Terri) was responsible for Kyron and something horrible happened under her "watch". Yes, I understand that it was not Terri's fault and I am not saying that it was. I'm saying that Terri probably feels incredibly guilty because she was the last family member with Kyron. I know that I would feel guilty if I were taking care of someone's child and something happened to them, even if it was not my fault that they got hurt. So I can understand Terri's behavior during the press conference, as well.

I don't know anything about this case that you all don't know. I haven't talked to Tony and have no means of contacting him since he's not at home and I don't have his cell number. I have been chatting with another neighbor and she doesn't know anything, either. Since Tony's a detective with experience working some pretty ugly cases, I suspect he's approaching this situation with Kyron pretty differently than the average step-father. I don't have proof to back up that suspicion; it's just my opinion.

Anyway, watching Tony speak at the press conference was incredibly sad. He looks wretched/heartbroken. It has been really hard to read through the posts here that speculate anything negative about the family. I don't know Terri or Kaine, but I do know Desiree & Tony and they are sincere, kind-hearted people. The devastation they exhibited at that press conference was not put-on in the slightest.

BeanE -

About thinking like a 2nd grader - here is where I read it:

THIS QUOTE IS FROM RUBY, THREAD 9:

As they look for Kyron they said they are trying to think like a second grader and asked themselves where he might go and what he might do.

Searchers from Josephine County worked step by step in a dreary rain Thursday, walking in a line and into thick brush near Kyron’s home.

Not only did searchers look for Kyron but they also looked for clues.

“When they search through areas they’re looking for any kind of debris or clothing, or shoes, or shoeprints – something that would indicate that somebody’s been through there recently,” said Mike Fulk a volunteer with Mountain Wave Search and Rescue.

He said the search conditions aren’t ideal.

It's been awhile since I've been there so I'm not sure. It seems like there might be a parking charge for the Halloweeny stuff, not sure about the U-pick. I don't remember having to pay but it may vary by farm. Sorry I can't be more help, maybe another local can jump in.

I posted earlier that I always got the creeps going out to Suavie Island. If you were in Oregon and had never been there, you would hear enough to keep you away. I just found an article that explains why I felt the way I did. Hopefully the budget was fixed and it didn't go back to being lawless like I remembered.

(snip)
Nebeker, who is a Sauvie Island resident, also recalls the island's chaotic past. He says it was formerly a "nice, quiet spot" for anyone "who wanted to do stuff that was illegal."
"We would not want to live without an enforcement officer out here," he said.

When will wonderful WSers be able to get hold of the cellphone ping records? Did this take over a year in the KC Anthony case? Is it likely to happen in Oregon?

Not sure if we are supposed to answer this or not. In spite of the devastation of a missing child, for me myself, I just do not think I could 'go there' and implant a chip in my child. Seems too eerie.
