I wonder if Officer feel good realizes he was BS'd?
How so? I missed the very beginning but not much. What I missed was WHO answered these questions that were emailed from the media? I "assumed" that the family answered them - how would this officer know these things about Kyron? So, if the family, in fact, did supply the answers then we can take it as DAD helped with the Science Fair project with Kyron doing most of the diarama.

As for the "mundane" aspect of the questions - remember LE asked to meet with the media "behind closed doors" the other day - so we really don't know what "guidelines" the media is operating under with LE.

Again... why I didn't go into photo journalism... if I had been at that press conference...

"Yes, we also know where Haleigh Cummings isn't, where Stacey Peterson isn't and where Natalee Holloway isn't.

See how well that has worked for Florida, Illinois and Aruban authorities?" :banghead:

And Lindsey Baum...

thank you for bringing that up! i remember that from the very first day this all unfolded (on scanner thread) and wanted to ask but was a little leary after finding out D's husband was LE and did in no way want it to look like it was implying innuendos

In addition, today's presser said that Kyron wants to be a police detective when he grows up. I think we can put away the theory that he might be afraid of police.

I just clicked on the link to the video where the student says the substitute and teacher had the conversation you mention. On the same page as the video is a quote from a police official saying that the child was mistaken, because there was NO substitute in the classroom that day. The police official believed the child who made the statement had his days mixed up.

Not a police official - a spokesperson for the school (who has potential liability).

But, Portland Public School spokesman Matt Shelby said the account can't be true: "There were no substitutes at the school that day (the day Kyron disappeared)," he said.

Shelby thinks Pumala may be confused because all week after the disappearance a subsitute teacher has been at the school to help with the stress of the Horman case.

It's ridiculous for the school to say it can't be true because there were no substitutes that day. They're just trying to cover their butts and minimize their liability.

I can certainly see how with all the volunteers there that day a child would use the word 'substitute' for 'volunteer'. I don't care if what term he used for the woman's job junction. It's not important.

I believe this child's testimony. He may not have every single little word correct (or appealing to the school who is liable), but I believe he saw Kyron as he says he did.

who refused? family or neighbors or strangers?

Reporter asked if it is true that some people have refused to let their property be searched, and the captain replied yes that is true.

What is Kyron like? What is his standout attribute.
Very quiet & loving. Warmth & enthusiasm.
Bootsie is the 'security' cat (pet). Kyron likes playing with the cat.
Ernie is their canine (dog to the rest of us, lol)
Quick witted & makes any situation funny. Looks up to his big brothers.

Ok, I thought Kyron had only one older half-brother (the son of Terri)??

I think this PC showed only that LE is clueless in this case. They had to divert attention to Kyron as a person, because they had no place else to go. I'll bet there were lots of other questions submitted by media, but they chose not to answer them because they cannot. They do not want to have to explain why the big search did not come for 4-5 days into the investigation.

I have never believed they were speaking to an abductor through their press conferences, at least not knowingly. I think they do not have any idea whether or not he was taken and are doing this kind of a PC to kind of cover it all, once again...just in case...I am feeling really hopeless for this child. And it does sound like this guy doing the PC is too close to the family, IMO...
It sounds like he is too close to the family to me too.

I really wouldn't read too much into the fact that his jacket and backpack were left there. My kids forget theirs all.the.time. In fact, every June, someone comes home with a garbage bag full of coats, jackets and hoodies they've left there over the school year. I wouldn't expect a teacher to take notice of a kid forgetting their backpack or jacket.

The idea that the media is working under any guidelines from LE or the family is disturbing.

Regarding the report of a subsitute and her alleged statement about Kyron being missing and the other teacher I snipped this portion of an article:

Portland Public School spokesman Matt Shelby said the account can't be true: "There were no substitutes at the school that day (the day Kyron disappeared)," he said.

Shelby thinks Pumala may be confused because all week after the disappearance a subsitute teacher has been at the school to help with the stress of the Horman case.

He may have confused "substitute teacher" with a "teacher's aide", or "paraeducator" as they are called here.

(Thanks PDX for the transcription)

Was Kyron in a good mood the AM he disappeared?
He was very excited about his diorama that he & his DAD have been working on. Kyron did a lot of it himself.

Bzzzt. Wrong. The stepmother claimed that she had helped him do it. Said she told him where to put things and that she laminated the project. Again, who knows.

Where is that info from, puf?

TIA

Oh, and if dad helped that means it's not possible that stepmom (or brother or cousin or neighbor) also helped?

just thinking about the presser again and wondered about the Officer's explanation of the parents activities (shopping, gym etc).

Perhaps he was doing it to try and shift the balance off the SM. I think every other board, news site I have been on have negative comments re SM. Is it a possibility that the action just now was because they fear a lot of the public have decided who did it and are not opening their eyes/ears to the other possibilities. A few threads back the discussion took the turn of LE knowing who had taken him but being unable to publicize it. Again JMHO

Ok, this is a long shot, i know...

I wonder if LE possibly asked step-mom to keep using her FB to try and lure out a suspected kidnapper... For example, "off to the gym" might have been an attempt to give a kidnapper a window of opportunity to approach her, thinking LE wouldn't be with her, for a ransom demand?? Maybe they used her FB page, thinking that a kidnapper would be drawn to find out more info about Kyron? (Once too many people were talking about the page it got too tough on the parents to have it out there--- also, after a few days, if the ploy didn't work, they just made it private?)

I know, it's a long shot, but... it feels like everything is at this point!

First part of this presser seemed to be all info about the family. Does LE need to be spending time defending the family? Really?

methinksthoudostprotest2much

I think the officer did think it was necessary to address this. He believes the blogger and internet talk is taking Kyron's case in the wrong direction. Why wouldn't he want to refocus the case on finding Kyron instead of people wasting time criticizing and accusing the parents? This is after all about finding a little 7 year old boy who has been missing for over a week.

It is totally obvious to me that none of the law enforcement officers suspects any of these parents of any wrongdoing.

In fact I think they suspect that Kyron may never be found and knows the parents may have to deal with this agony for the rest of their lives. So that is why he knows they must stay strong minded and healthy to be able to endure this if it goes on for a long time or if Kyron is never found.

IMO

I don't necessarily believe that we've gotten a true version of anything that happened that day from Tanner, but I agree that the school official was playing semantic games. How is Tanner supposed to know who is an officially, according-to-Hoyle substitute teacher and who is a volunteer?

Has anyone suggested that maybe someone had a grudge against Kyron's stepdad?

I wonder if Officer feel good realizes he was BS'd?

Well, it could have been that one person previously used the royal 'we'. Or was misquoted. Or simply misreported.
