Skyline School holds assembly on final day; Prayer vigil for Kyron Horman Tuesday night

On the final school day of the 2010 school year, Skyline School held an assembly for students and parents.

It was a reflection on the year as a whole, but staff members couldn't help but look back on the last 12 days, as a frantic statewide search ensued for one their own: 7-year-old Kyron Horman who vanished from the school grounds on June 4.

Horman's case will be highlighted this weekend on John Walsh's 'America's Most Wanted', and has gotten the attention of several national shows.

The vigil will be at the Sunset Presbeterian Church at 7 Tuesday night. The church is located at 14986 NW Cornell Road in Beaverton.

But Sauvie Island is not even in the same district as Skyline. Could it be that the parent of a Skyline student was out on Sauvie Island for some other reason (other than living there)? Sauvie Island has a perfectly good (highly rated) K-6 y school of its own ... although I suppose the parents could have gotten a boundary exemption.

The link above says they accept interdistrict transfers.

Sofia, I'm citing a quote from a KGW news story: "As it happens one of the Skyline parents is . . ." - - goes on to say who, lives and has a farm market on Sauvie Island. Link to story, thread starts at about 1:50.

I think Miranda rights are when a person is arrested. Up until that point LE can ask all that they want, right?

Miranda rights apply only to a police interrogation when a suspect is in custody or in a custodial situation. A custodial situation is one where the suspect/individual reasonably believes, from an objective standpoint, that they are not free to leave. The LE presence at the house would not be custodial --we've seen the family leave to go to pressers, the gym, etc. Also, LE would have to be interrogating the individual for miranda to apply.

I'm having trouble keeping up with the fast pace of this case and truly appreciate the information that is being provided here - especially local coverage and comments from those who know the area. My thoughts and prayers are with this little boy and his family.

One question at this time: It's been mentioned that LE has a liaison with the family 24/7. Has there been any indication about whether or not any of the parents (mother, father, step-mom, step-dad) have hired attorneys? Just curious...

I think the Sauvie Island school is only K-5 whereas Skyline is K-8. That would be a reasonable reason to send your kid there instead. In addition, Scappose Middle School is rated "satisfactory," and Skyline "outstanding." http://www.ode.state.or.us/data/reportcard/reports.aspx

Why do people post comments like these but NOT call them in? It could be the one tip police need, if true.

Why doesn't the person leaving the comment call it in, if she's convinced her friend won't?

When she said "canopy", does she mean like a camper-top? I'd also like to know if this truck matches what was seen by (I think his name was) Mr. Kelley?

Does anyone have the link to looking at crime in an area?? Not spotcrime..Theres another one????

Hi BetteDavisEyes - I hope the family has hired attorneys especially if they have no involvement what so ever in the disappearance. They need someone to watch out for their rights. I know if it were me I would, but I would also hand my life over to LE. It's important that the family has someone who can make logical, sensible decisions in their best interest.

The thing about a Sauvie Island resident connection though?

LE is searching a very specific part of the island, which isn't near any residences.
Now I know that earlier they were searching (reportedly) near the Pumpkin Patch and possible Krueger's (none of this was ever confirmed IIRC) but all the recent news photos have them in the Channel and that ditch and along the RR tracks between the water and Hwy 30.

Don't mean to pooh pooh the theory, but to keep us focused on where they are actually searching.

Thanks Oceanblueeyes - Is it normal for LE to take this long to clear the family. I'm just asking because I honestly don't know.

Sometimes LE never clears the family or anyone else becksterb before an arrest is made. In fact most of the cases I have seen LE did not come out and rule anyone out.

IMO

Thanks, I hadn't seen that. It is very possible Don Kruger has a middle schooler who goes to Skyline instead of Scappoose. I know I'd probably send my kid to Skyline over Scappoose if that were an option. (No disrespect intended towards anyone with kids at Scappoose MS.)

I live in the portland area and there are many transfers from out of the city I live in to our school just because it is a smaller school and some parents feel it is better then. Also I have lived out of district for a few years and still send my kids to their original elementery school just because they didn't want to change. so it is definitely possible and like I said before I "heard" that a residence was searched. I have also heard (rumor) that a specific S.O. was interviewed because of fantasies he made known in the past regarding taking a child from a school and so forth so I think they are working on many things we have not been made aware of. Again this is just RUMOR.

This has probably been posted but I didn't catch it so I am posting for others that may have missed it too.

Here is a link to a picture of the school from google maps. This link should bring up both the street and aerial view. Give it a few seconds to load both the pictures from the map. By moving the arrow on the street view you can follow it down to see the rest of the school and the playground. Appears to be a 5ft (?) fence surrounding the school.

After viewing this it doesn't appear that he could just wander away from the school by foot. The school just looks so remote that it just seems like a child would have been noticed if he walked from the school.

Pdx, they are searching residences as well, per my posting above to Sofia76:

Kruger's has been on the news twice this week - - here's the link to one of the clips, repeating from my post above:

Well my original point about the transfers was that people from outside the neighborhood could have (and probably were) present that day who may not have been well known, but at the same time wouldn't have necessarily been thought to be out of place.

Is this 150 ft correct? Isn't that a little long for an interior hallway or did she see him at the door to the building from the parking lot?

The 150 feet was reported by a reporter in a news article just after (I think the day after) the press was given a tour of Kyron's classroom by LE. The reporter didn't say how he/she came up with the 150 feet. Maybe LE pointed it out to them. Maybe not. Who knows. It's pretty specific.
