Maybe LE and school officials are trying to calm the parents. The absentee list is still very high.

How will this comfort them?
"Former FBI agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett told "Good Morning America" today that while the investigation initially didn't appear to include any viable leads, that may have changed."

"I think they're thinking … that someone did do something to this child," he said.

Using a little-known GPS chip inside a cell phone, federal prosecutors can locate a person to within about 30 feet. They're also able to gather less exact location data by tracing mobile phone signals as they ping off cell towers.

Doesn't the distance a cell phone pings depend on the location of cell towers? Aren't the tower locations available on the net someplace that we can trace and see where they're located near the school? Would that help?

But I'm thinking two things. One that it may be unusual from tower locations which are pretty random to track pings exactly 2 miles out from the school if that's what they're doing.

Conversely, we might be able to pin the tower locations and compare them to the search locations and we may find that they're actually following the pattern of the towers.

I don't know a whole lot about pings and towers. I just picked up a few (very few) things from Caylee's case. So if the above is really stupid based on how they actually work, please just pretend it's very intelligent. :)

I am so short on details and I don't know if this applies to all states. But I think it's Wisconsin where one of the cell providers was sued because they wouldn't release pings when a girl (older) was missing. The case was won.

The girl could have been helped in time, it was felt.

I hope someone knows of this and has more info. I think the lawsuit is very recent.

Yeah, you know, picking my brain that happened with another case as well. I want to say Verizon (but I don't wanna as it's my provider) but there was another case in which the cell phone info didn't get out unless forced. Just recently. Anyone help me with that?

but why would the bus stop if there was no kid to drop off :waitasec:

unless there's another residence close enough that they do multiple drop-offs at one point and the parents gather there ...

b/c the bus driver saw the parent/s standing there waiting for their child to be dropped off? That would be my guess.
no mystery there to me.... moo

I had earlier dismissed him having a cell phone, but really the theory does make sense, with the search radius they are going with.

And for the email from his father, it read to me like he was using the collective we regarding picking him up at the bus stop, IMO.

The pic in the red jacket looks like a different day. And it looks like they are at the zoo. That doesn't in any way look like the outside of his school to me.

Here are six pictures of Kyron put out by news sources. He looks slightly different in each one, so I thought it would be good to put them all together to get sort of an idea of how he can look in different lights and with different facial expressions, etc.

I don't know a lot about pings and towers either, but I know from cell experience out here in the NW that if you go south from Seattle, you will eventually hit Portland ones... and the southern WA/northern OR border is hazy with radio/cell phone stuff. It's hard to explain... it's like we are brothers, so it kinda blends. And in southern WA you lose WA coverage only to pick up on OR coverage. We's like peas and carrots that way. lol

I'm thinking it was a collective "we" as well. Wouldn't the dad be at work at 3:30? If he had taken the day off, wouldn't he have gone to the science fair too? Just speculation.

Everyone who has ever lived in the hills knows exactly where the cellphone "drop" areas are located. When you are on the cellphone and approaching the drop zone, you always drop the person you are talking with in this place. If a sophisticated murderer dropped a body off in this zone, would they be "pinged"?

Has the school been torn apart and really, really searched?

I keeping feeling he is still within the school. If he made it to school but not to class, the window of snatching opportunity is very small.

My brain keeps thinking about those 2 women who were murdered in the past year at their workplace and hidden - i think one within the walls and another in a utility closet, i believe.

Holy carp, if they suspect a school employee, they've got to tell the parents, especially if they've discovered the person is a SO, because they'd have to start interviewing kids to see if any others have been molested.

Or if they want to start showing specific pictures of employees (or volunteers or whatever) to the kids to see if those people were near Kyron on Friday, it's going to scare the carp out of the kids - and the parents - if these are trusted and well thought of people.

Oh my God, somebody give me a Xanax. My mind's going into overdrive on the meeting. It's just so very unusual.

Yeah, because one of the parents would have gone to the talent show.

I believe in one of the press conferences they said the school had been searched and re-searched and they would continue to do so. Not a direct quote and I apologize for not having a link and unfortunately I cannot remember which thread it was on.

But those girls were found within 1-2 days. If he was inside the school and deceased for 7 days....oh, I just can't say it.

The cell phone law was passed in Minnesota. Is that where Verizon is located? It must be a National Law because the murdered girl was in Kansas.

I live in the country where there are hills. I can get cell phone in some spots of my yard-not house.

My son said that the signals go from tower to tower in a line. He said that if there are hills in the way, that stops the signal.

However, I have a cell phone from work which is probably the cheapest that could be had.

When my hubby had to have a cell phone for work, he got a very expensive one that worked in our house, so I'm not sure about my son's explanation. He is anengineer and I can ask him tomorrow night if this still is a topic.

Article about the cell phone ping lawsuit.

I remember it too. I think it was just yesterday. They said they searched more than once, and used dogs.

All the press conference videos except June 4 and 5 are in Kyron's media thread. Link in my signature.

Yes, it is policy in most schools that cellphones must be off and left in the locker. They must have been tracking someone else's pings.

However, this was before classes started, so...perhaps he had it in the pocket of his cargos? *hopefully* :)

I was thinking the same thing. If there is a short time span for the abductor to work, he or she could snatch the child before the child even knew what was about to hit him or her, let alone the child asking for the password.

As for the zoo picture, his face is in the shadow, thus making him darker complexioned and thus he looks like someone else. Also, he is wearing sunglasses which also adds a different dimension to his appearance.

I do believe his glasses have transition lenses, which adjust to be darker in sunlight.

I must have missed something, did LE say they were going to release more info?

I was thinking the same as BeanE, that the meeting was a courtesy "pre-notification" that they were going to turn it into a criminal investigation, and could answer questions since that will obviously scare the parents.

And they will probably also tell them to stop talking to the media.

Yes Dorothy, I read that in a link here late afternoon that they were going to release some info on the case due to the length of time Kyron has been missing. xox
