Our school buses drop off and pick up each child at his/her home. Wouldn't be unusual if that is the case there. IDK JMO

I believe that one media source, at least, described the home as rural with a long driveway. It is likely that the bus did stop just within walking distance of their house. Where I grew up it stopped in the road at the end of our driveway where we boarded as did the kids who lived in a house just a bit across the road from ours.

(Assuming they're basing the search radius on cell pings) It's possible that if LE has a suspect in mind, they're going by their pings and not Kyrons.

That's what I'm assuming, if they're going by pings, it's the perp's, not Kyron's. And I think the perp is someone who worked at the school. Either employee, volunteer, contract worker, etc.

If it was Kyron's cell pinging, I think they would have found him by now. And it's just unlikely that Kyron had a cell.

MOO

So at this point, LE doesn't think there's been *any* crime. Just that he wandered off. *No* signs of *any* crime.

Okay, I'll trust LE - they're more experienced and knowledgeable than I am. I am not a professional. I'm going to get some coffee and a cranberry muffin. Fresh baked. I have a wonderful hubby - he bakes :)

Police: No indication Oregon boy's disappearance is abduction
June 11, 2010 10:32 a.m. EDT

One week after an Oregon boy vanished inside his school, police have no evidence to suggest the 7-year-old child was kidnapped.

"There's just no indication on anything we've got at this point that it was an abduction," Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton told CNN. "The child is still characterized as a missing child."

But Staton also warned that time was running out in locating Kyron Horman.
"We are still within our threshold limits to find this child alive and we are making every effort to continue that," the sheriff said. "But because we are into day 7, obviously the percentages of finding him alive are growing exponentially, and that is very concerning for us."

snip

"The last time this child was seen was inside the school and was never seen leaving the school," Staton told CNN. "There was nothing to indicate any kind of disruption inside the school. This is why it's so concerning to us."

snip

"We've got investigators that are looking at every aspect; looking at every area of criminal categories," Staton said. "At this point, it hasn't reached the level that we are looking at this as a crime."

Staton also praised Kyron's family for what he called being extremely cooperative.

"Based on the dynamics," Staton said, "people respond to this differently. Nothing unusual to the way they are responding to this."

snip

"This has been very traumatizing for them," he said, "and they prefer to remain tightly knit at this point."

Staton called this case especially disturbing.

"We are talking about a school," he said. "This is not about a child walking away in the woods or from a store, this is a school and it should be one of the safest environments other than your home."

BBM - I think this is important to note. You would think someone would have seen him leave either with someone or alone.

But I don't see that if the dogs didn't trace his scent outside the school.I'm sorry. But I just don't see that.I'm just really confused.I just really pray they find this little boy soon.

Good Morning Ms.S.,
The scent hounds could well have been thrown off by the rain... Bad break,if that's the case. We have had a LOT of wet weather here in the NW this spring...

Bonjour Jetaime,
I was thinking this as well. I posted something about it last night. Like if anyone knew anyone that "lost" a cell phone that maybe they started looking at who may have dropped one in that area. OR anyone that was unaccounted for during the a.m. hours - maybe they started checking into where their pings were. Just a couple ideas.

But I don't see that if the dogs didn't trace his scent outside the school.I'm sorry. But I just don't see that.I'm just really confused.I just really pray they find this little boy soon.

How would the length of time passed since he was last seen and the number of people present that day effect the ability of the dogs to pick up his scent?

May I ask where this came up? Article? Other? Thanks! :)

Oh, don't ask me any hard questions, LOL. They interviewed a man who lived out on a rather secluded place and he said a woman in a white truck came back there for a while, idling her truck, then left. Then about 2AM, a white truck came back and the neighbors turned their dogs loose and the truck left. I have no idea where I saw it, I'm sorry.

I'm with you 100% that Kyron did not walk off. I don't believe that for a second.

Someone on this board brought up a very important point early on, sorry I wish I could remember who, that if Kyron, for whatever reason followed the exact same path out of the school that he followed into the school, that there would be only one trace of his scent in the parking lot. It could be a well traveled path that he would have used to go just about anywhere, but it would be helpful if at least we knew if his scent was found any place else in that lot.

Again, I thought it rained that day at some point, but sorry, I have no other info on the weather, but I guess I wonder if the dogs were able to pick up Kyron's scent going from the car into the school when he and SM first arrived.

Again, we have so little to go on. Extremely frustrating. Going around in circles.

Since we have so very little to go on, one thought ran through my mind... I am thinking that if Kyron was lured out of the school by someone he knew, I would just bet that person was very much aware there were no cameras anywhere in that school, but I would go further to say that perhaps a teacher or someone else that works in the school, might remember someone who knew Kyron asking about cameras in the school, weeks ago, months ago, as sort of a verification of that fact before they went ahead with their diabolical plan.

I think it would have to be someone with a connection to---and very familiar with--- the school. Family and friends, staff, guests or volunteers, contract, maintenance or delivery workers, landscapers, former or even current students (it does go up to 8th grade).

Has it been confirmed whether the dogs tracked scent, where, and where it stopped? Anything at all on that? Or was that all another no comment from LE?

We could really use that rumor list!!! Volunteers?

Rumors:
- the appointment
- the projects in the gym
- backpack and coat left at school

Great point, so I assume to do this they had to get a list of the cell phone numbers from staff etc.?

As they look for Kyron they said they are trying to think like a second grader and asked themselves where he might go and what he might do.

Searchers from Josephine County worked step by step in a dreary rain Thursday, walking in a line and into thick brush near Kyron’s home.

Not only did searchers look for Kyron but they also looked for clues.

“When they search through areas they’re looking for any kind of debris or clothing, or shoes, or shoeprints – something that would indicate that somebody’s been through there recently,” said Mike Fulk a volunteer with Mountain Wave Search and Rescue.

He said the search conditions aren’t ideal.

Good Morning JTSYS,

Sorry I should have indicated the all important word (again) * speculate * Actually, though, I came to think Kyron might have had a cell on him not just because of the 2 mile ping radius, but also because of the LEO at one of the earlier pressers mentioning two missing person's cases. It was in the context of how searches in Oregon are carried out. One of the families, the Kims, was actually located based on the pings of their cell. I just believed that particular case, out of many, many cases, was mentioned for a reason.

I understand what you are saying. Personally I believe those particular cases were brought up to represent how SAR work is conducted specific to Oregon, how it has changed from years past, what has been learned from past mistakes, etc and used those high profile cases as an example.
But it certainly also raises a good point insofar as we do NOT have clarification as to whether or not Kyron owned any sort of device that could be used for GPS location.

This may be very helpful, since we have very little confirmed facts at this point.
LE calling it an 'isolated incident', makes me form an opinion that I cannot share here either.

Then about 2AM, a white truck came back and the neighbors turned their dogs loose and the truck left. I have no idea where I saw it, I'm sorry.

A white truck driven by a lady was seen by Jim Kelley and his neighbor Fri at 3 pm and Sat at 2 am near his home off of Cornelius Pass
"We had two odd sightings of a vehicle on our road Friday," Kelley said. Around 3 p.m., he and a neighbor reported seeing a white pick-up truck with a female driver pull to the end of the long road, idle and then turn around. Then again at 2 a.m. Saturday morning, a similar white pickup truck appeared, idled and when a neighbor loosed her dogs, eased away.

"A, it was strange to have a car there, any car there, that we didn't know, and B, it was strange to have a vehicle come down our dead-end road twice in the same day, hours after a little boy goes missing," said Kelley. "That's beyond rare."

Kelley said authorities have twice searched the deep ravine, creek and railroad tracks located near the end of his street by air and on foot.

The search parameters using dogs has NOT been confirmed by LE. It has only been stated that they used them inside the school, and that they did not have any positive hits in the initial use of dogs. It has been stated that they have been used in the ground search- no confirmation of hits/no hits there. Also, no confirmation on scent-type of dog used.

1:29 p.m. -- Neighbors stop by Brooks Hill Historic church, across the street from the school, to mull over the investigation. "This kind of thing is unheard of," says Jim Kelley, 50.

Kelley, who lives about a mile and a half down hill, at the end of a winding, secluded country lane off Cornelius Pass, said police, federal agents, K-9 teams and helicopters scoured the area Saturday.

"We had two odd sightings of a vehicle on our road Friday," Kelley said.
