Missing Person
Niki Diane Britten 03-25583

Niki Diane Britten was last seen in Albany, Oregon in July 17, 1969 at age 16. It is believed she was reported as a runaway juvenile in 1969; however, records from that time no longer exist. Detectives interviewed former police officers and determined a report was most likely taken, however in that time period once a person reached the age of 18 the records were purged. The laws regarding missing person’s reports have changed and these reports are no longer purged. Missing Person reports now require DNA and medical records be obtained. In 2003, the case was re-opened as more information was reported. The case is assigned to a detective and the investigation is ongoing.

Niki Britten has been entered into the NamUS website for missing persons. The police department has obtained DNA samples from relatives so the University of North Texas could develop a mitochondrial DNA profile. This profile has been entered into a DNA database in the event she is found.

Is there anything that confirms this was a run away? I would look much closer to home.

ProductiveOne: I thought the same thing. Does Niki have a history of dental work in the past one to two years? She went missing on July 16th, 1969, and one to two weeks later Lompoc Jane Doe was killed and found the first week in September. As other researchers I do not believe it was Niki who phone her grandparents friends (who were they?) and wrote that letter. Do we know the ethnicity of the Lompoc Jane Doe? I am also researching that case. Regarding dental work, can the detectives determine where it was done? I believe that it could have been done in a dental school and a dentist could have come from a different country with different technology not known to Americans. OMO.

Interesting that Niki was from Oregon and went missing in July 1969.

I have long wondered if the murder of Lompoc Jane Doe might be in some way connected with the June 1969 murder of Roxie Ann Phillips age 17 - also from Oregon.

Roxie was visiting Salinas California for a few days while enroute to Lompoc. She was murdered by John Norman Collins, who was visiting California from Michigan. Much more on him in the Serial Killer threads here on Websleuths.

Lompoc Jane Doe also has a thread of her own in the Unidentified section.

Could she have hitch hiked out to California? In 1969 everyone wanted to be in San Francisco.

Maybe they were all friends from Oregon. Did Roxie and Niki have similar interests or live in the same area (sports, beauty pageants, girl scouts, camp, same school, school photographer?). I wish there was more information about Jane Doe from Lompoc. For example: Did the police find a wallet or purse that the ID was missing? What does the DNA say about her heritage (she's white, but that does not help with heritage, in my own personal opinion.) Can we get police files? Has everything been tested for DNA and fingerprints? Thank you, Richard, for reading this comment.
