It's possible some defendants may want to sever their case from the main group. Judge Brown said she'd entertain that at the next hearing.

But it's likely prosecutors will want to try and keep the case together, rather than doing several smaller trials #Oregonstandoff

Geez. They were willing and hoping to die for the cause. They brought tons of weapons and plenty of attitude.

People had their lives disrupted and ordinary people who work at Federal buildings get to live in fear that some new nut ball will do a Malheur or worse yet,Oklahoma City where lots of little children died.

Authorities confirm that Robert "LaVoy" Finicum didn't have an Oregon concealed handgun license. Police found 9mm Ruger on inside pocket.

The point is, they knew they screwed up right from the start. They had a vehicle riddled with bullets, a suspect dead on the ground, shot in the back, and no visible weapon on the suspect. They knew they had to start lying to cover their own asses. Some of them (OSP) came up with better lies then others (FBI).

There is no moral justification for shooting a suspect in the back, just because the cops THINK he might be armed. Legally yes, they can get away with it. The cops in this country can get away with killing any one for any reason. But all it accomplished was to give these militia nuts a martyr.

I have no idea what you think Finicum did to deserve the death penalty. He didn’t hurt any one. He didn’t kill anyone. He definitely deserved 5 or 10 years in a federal prison for taking over government property. But the death penalty, I think not. Most of these people deserve to be in a mental hospital, not even in a prison, let alone being executed for their crimes.

I agree the majority of them belong in a mental hospital, but I disagree that law enforcement should not have protected themselves first. They had very clear, first hand evidence that these guys were carrying and threatening to kill LE. What do you think it takes for LE to be justified in protecting each other from a direct threat?

You said:

I disagree, that he had it coming.

Allow me to clarify: I meant in the moment he was shot, not for the crimes he willingly committed prior to that. He could have been locked up with the rest of the bunch, but he made it perfectly clear beforehand that was not an option for him.

I have no idea whether he intended to take others down with him. Based on the circumstances surrounding the situation and his own comments I, personally, would assume he did. But I suppose we'll never know.

If LaVoy is elevated to martyr status, I guess there's a fairly low bar for such a distinction.

Occupation leaders talked about using explosives, drones in 'worst-case scenario,' court testimony reveals

Blomgren, in an interview with police after his arrest, said he drove to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Harney County from North Carolina several days after the leaders seized it, according to Gabriel.

Blomgren told authorities that the occupation leaders never booby-trapped the wildlife sanctuary but talked about using "IEDS,'' or improvised explosive devices, when planning for a worst-case scenario and using at least two drones to spy on the FBI, the prosecutor said.

Ryan Bundy's attorney tells Judge Brown that Bundy plans to represent himself in the trial #Oregonstandoff

Well, that’s going to be interesting. I have a feeling he knows he is going to be found guilty anyway, so he might as well use it as a public forum to lecture his forth grade interpretation of the Constitution.

Being his own lawyer also gives him more freedoms to speak to others in private about the case. He can say any phone call or visit is being conducted in preparation for his case and it can not be listened to by jail officials. I would also think that he can have contact with the co defendants in private saying it is in preparation for trial.
He will be able to be the messenger for all of them to get information in and out of the jail.

Vegas showdown: Bundy gang to protest outside federal courthouse today

Supporters of accused Nevada extortionist Cliven Bundy are planning to protest outside a federal courthouse in Las Vegas Thursday where he faces felony charges for his 2014 armed standoff with federal agents.

A post on the Bundy Ranch Facebook page is asking supporters to fill the sidewalks outside the federal building from 10 a.m. as well as the public area of the courtroom for his 2 p.m. arraignment.

Looks like their attendance didn't even break double digits lol. Better find a new "cause" to fight for.
