The Portland Police Bureau is asking for the public’s help locating an 88-year-old man who was reported missing in Josephine County.

Robert Carton, 88, was reported missing to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office at the end of September.

During the investigation, the sheriff’s office learned that Carton could be in the Portland metropolitan area.

He was on his way to visit family in Washington, but on September 28 he called his wife saying he was lost on the freeway and pulling over to rest.

Police say Carton is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. He has blue eyes and no hair.

Investigators say Carton currently has a blackened eye with stitches and his right arm is in a sling.

According to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Carton was recently diagnosed with dementia.

He was last seen driving a white 1996 Dodge Caravan with Oregon license plate number UXJ139. The words “night patrol” are on the back of the Caravan.BBM

The Josephine County Sheriff's Office says that Carton's body was found in a heavily-forested area of Lane County near Oakridge. An off-duty Lane County Search and Rescue member was hiking in the area when he located the van that Carton was reported to be driving. The member located his body a short distance from the van.
