From July 2005:

Former Vancouver resident Christopher R. Cook pleaded no contest Monday to first-degree manslaughter in the 2004 death of a young Ridgefield woman.

Cook, 21, was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the death of Sierra Maldonado, whose body was found March 15, 2004, beneath the Broadway Bridge along the Willamette River shore in Portland...

Had the case gone to trial... evidence would have included an autopsy finding that Maldonado was strangled and that Cook, who was found soaking wet near the Broadway Bridge, admitted to detectives he threw Maldonado into the river.
