Do we know for positively sure that this search is/has happened. I am confused. Glad to be back though... Spreading the word.

Great question. No, we certainly don't know for sure that this search happened. All we have is what has been posted, which is that an eyewitness saw the JCSO boats searching and reported it to KOBI 5 (NBC). KMED radio posted it.

As I see it, there are several possibilities:

1). This really was a search for Stephanie.

2). The report was a hoax by a friend of POI for any number of reasons.

3) Someone sent JCSO on a wild goose chase for the fun of it.

I am hoping this is a case of someone having the sense to come forward with information, while they still have the chance.

If you've got 7 minutes, this is a lovely tour/history of Applegate Lake:

Thanks so much for posting this video, OUOTP. He really captured the beauty.

I thought it was interesting that he said he was out there in the middle of the summer on a beautiful day and no one was there!

Lilibet--- I'm searching..maybe you'll have better luck? On the 4th at the lake fireworks? festivities?

I see there was a race the weekend of the 13th 14th...

I really doubt there would be fireworks because of the chance of fire, at least not organized. Of course, there are always individual idiots shooting things off unsafely. I'll search too for other activities.

Map shows store, Stephanie's home, and Applegate Lake. Hope I got the store right. On the googled address I found, 7350, Highway 238, it said it was reported closed.

The map looks fine. The store was open a couple of weeks ago when we were there. I saw those sites that reported it closed and I'm sure it's an error.

No sorry. I looked up the Ruch Store address, and there was a note saying the store at that address was reported closed, that's all.

I cannot find any July 4 events at the Lake either.

ETA: Reply to OUOTP. :)

Here is a partial quote of the report posted by KMED Radio. Apparently the Applegate lake search was on Wednesday and has not been confirmed by JCSO. A teaser was posted on KOBI5 FB Thursday for the 6:00 pm news, but I don't see any more on their website.

"SOURCES TELL NBC FIVE NEWS.. THEY SPOTTED CREWS SEARCHING THE WATER SAYING SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES ARRIVED AROUND TEN O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING WEDNESDAY. THE SOURCES SAY THEY AT WERE USING LEAST TWO BOATS AND ANOTHER JET BOAT SEARCHING THE AREA BELOW THE BRIDGE AT SWAYNE POINT LOOKOUT AT APPLEGATE RESERVOIR. BUT THE DETAILS REMAIN UNCONFIRMED BY THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE."

Did it ever air?

I've searched the KOBI website and found nothing about the lake search. I can't tell what time the teaser for the 6:00 pm news was posted on FB November 7. The first comment was at 5:48 pm. It's quite possible it didn't air. I didn't happen to watch the news that night.

Interesting info about the depth of the lake from the link you posted. Although we didn't have our usual amount of spring rain, the lake would have been quite deep by the dam July 4. The boat ramp by the dam would have been covered.

At full pool, Applegate Lake covers 988 acres and is over 4.5 miles long. Providing there is normal rain fall, the lake reaches full pool in May or June. Full pool, or close to it, is maintained until late August. Just after Labor day the level of the lake is dropped steadily until it reaches low pool, 205 acres. The lake is over 200 feet deep in the main section by the dam when it is at full pool. I have seen over a 100 foot drop when the lake dropped to low pool.

When the lake is full, the boat ramp at Hart-tish Park and the boat ramp at Copper are both open. The French Gulch ramp is underwater.

I think this triangle of land in the picture is maybe the Swayne Point the report said searchers were seen near? It looks as though a vehicle - especially any off road type - could get really close to the water. It also looks as though there is a road bridge above the water, from where poor Stephanie could have been thrown.

Lake Applegate is man made and even has a town beneath it. There will be old trees and many other objects etc, I'd think, on the lake bed. It will be difficult to search.
