Wow. A Journalism degree from the U of O apparently doesn't include learning proper grammar and spelling!

Sorry, once a proofreader, always a proofreader.

Me too, LaLouve. It drives me nuts. I've noticed a lot of these errors on video transcriptions. I'm not sure the reporter is the one writing them. They are such a mess, I hope not. Obviously, no one is proof reading.

My all time favorite newspaper error was when a headline about a fugitive said he was "on the lamb." I still chuckle over that visual!

OT news for anyone who has followed the case of the McStay family missing from near San Diego since Feb. 4, 2010. The parents Joseph and Summer were found buried in the desert just off I-15 near Victorville. The remains of two children were buried with them, likely their two little boys. The graves were discovered by a motorcyclist.

Although I assumed they had met a bad end, it's really tough to know it for sure. Such a tragedy.

Nothing heard from any of them since Stephanie went missing?

I'm not aware that Michael's family has said anything. As far as I know, they still live in the Rogue Valley.

Maybe all the local journalists are off covering the world chess championships in India? It is very exciting at the moment. Probably not though.

Lol, chess is surely the only game in the world where a potential draw can be seen as an exciting outcome. I do love the 'immortal game', and the masters who play it. :). However, without meaning to be rude at all, their skills and abilities often seem to be focused all in one place. Very impressive in certain areas - strategic thinking, anticipating others' moves etc.

Yet they can be impossible to budge when they're set in a line of thinking, even if they're wrong. And as for intuitive behaviour - sensing when they are coming over well or not, or working out what a situation or person is all about, or if it's all going wrong for them......well, hmmm. All just my opinion of course, and not at all meant offensively.

Sorry to go off topic. It'll all be over soon. There are only so many moves on a board before a game is done, and the real masters always knock over their king and resign, before the bitter end and their humiliation goes too far.

Carlsen's going to win by the way, in case anyone can't wait for the end.

In my opinion.

Not so off topic. Did you know Ames is listed on a chess circuit? He only played a few tournaments. But your observations about their way of thinking...hmmmmm.

Chess is a game I've never wanted to learn, so no offense taken here. :)

Sad to see all the cold cases in the area. Especially the case of Cheryl Seyedin from Ashland (scroll down).
One has been solved though.

* I was right about the chess outcome, by the way. Carlsen won. No big shakes on my part though. I'm no prophet. His opponent was much older. Over a long period of time, that matters. Physical/mental stamina and fitness come into play. Anand, the older player, missed something which he just could not come back from. He'd made a mistake much earlier on, in my opinion. Only really obvious at the end though.

I think there may well be a strategic 'mistake' in Stephanie's disappearance. Several, in fact. As they are in the past, they can't be undone. Someone might have been foolish enough to try though, and therefore highlight where a mistake was made, that otherwise might have stayed unnoticed.

I think I'm going to have a little trawl for any corrections and contradictions, and try and work out why they might have been made, if they exist.

Last night, I heard the Chicago song "Saturday in the park, I think it was the 4th of July" and started to cry!
Then another line piqued the interest of the sleuthy side of my brain: "...A man selling ice cream"
Vendors travel from everywhere to go to events like the 4th of July parade in Ashland. They come to sell things like flags, balloons, cotton candy etc...
These vendors move constantly and are looking towards individuals, not the parade.
I hope they were hunted down and questioned about what they may have seen... If that's even possible :/

I don't think they will have even been spoken to, myself. Unless they came forward.

I don't know how it works in Oregon, but in California vendors seem to have to apply for a license, well in advance of an event. There may be a list in a local government office somewhere.

I'd think the overheard row/disagreement in Ashland between Stephanie and Lennie Ames was very important information, but I'm not sure what else might help. I think there is proof they left together isn't there? And Ames doesn't deny that?

Exactly who was at the Ruch store with Stephanie and how and when they left, is what I would really like to know. I wonder if the young men in the vehicle ever came forward? Police obviously think they might have seen something. Was school out July 4th? Could they have been college kids?

I was contacted earlier this week by a woman who for various reasons wishes to remain anonymous. I have personally spoken to her on the telephone and have verified her to be an upstanding member of the community. She wants you all to know what she saw and how she pursued it. She is an admirably diligent woman and this is just eating her up inside. And so, I am posting this for her.... This is a cut and paste, used with her permission:

"On Thursday, August 15th at 4:25 p.m. I pulled into the very crowded parking lot of the Rite Aid located in Grants Pass at the Williams Highway Safeway Shopping Center. I parked directly in front of (nose to nose) what I believe could have been a late model Class C or E Mercedes Benz. Possibly even as late as 1970's to early 2000's. ( They have a similar look) It was an unusual blue/silver. A white male, late 20's with short facial hair sat in the back seat. I vaguely remember him wearing a cap backwards/sideways on his head. He sat with his head somewhat down and towards his window. His door was slightly propped open. The whole situation seemed off to me. Directly in front of him sat a woman as plain of face with wavy brown/reddish hair whom I believe could possibly have been Stephanie. Immediately, I could not help but notice the woman for one reason only. She made direct eye contact with me from the very beginning and never broke her look. She was stone faced, serious. Never moved. I was uncomfortable with her looking into my eyes, so I would look away. Every time I looked back at her it was always direct eye to eye contact. She never looked away, even when I stared back into her eyes with a questioning look. Normal people under normal circumstances do not do this. They look away. Between her staring at me and the man in the back seat with his door propped open, I was fearful to get out of my car. So I sat there for a couple of minutes. The whole time she never stopped staring into my eyes. Eventually, I realized the man never noticed me, I lost my fear of being robbed (I just left my bank with a large amount of cash). I got out and went shopping. I remember passing two woman standing outside of the store. They looked undecided. I remember thinking to myself, 'they are trying to look nice, but I am not buying it.' I can't explain why, but I was very uneasy even walking through the parking lot. At first it never occurred to me that this woman was possibly asking for my help. I was only thinking about myself at the time and about my cash. It was not until I started to share this with others that I realized I may have been wrong about what was going on and completely missed an opportunity to help a distressed woman. I began to do some digging into possible missing women and when I found this case I was overwhelmed by the similar circumstances. I am sure that video surveillance would reveal who else was with the two I saw in the car. They had to of been waiting for someone else who was/were doing business in the stores or banks. Perhaps the two women standing outside the store were known acquaintances of Stephanie's? Video with reveal it.
JCSO, GP Police Department, and the Oregon State Police ( a total of 5 LE individuals) have all been notified. I have urged them to look into what I saw and since I narrowed it down to the minute of the day I am sure it would not take too much time for them to verify what I am saying."

Bare in mind, I don't believe anyone else saw Stephanie at the Ruch store but Ames. Also, correct me if I am wrong, I believe it was also him who started the whole thing about the boys and the truck.

Oh, you're joking! I thought it was the storekeeper who saw the boys?

Grants Pass Rite Aid, Williams Highway, is only about 25 mins from Ruch.

Yes. This particular parking lot also serves The Safeway supermarket, a pizzeria and several other businesses.

My own feeling is though, Stephanie was no longer alive on July 5th. I don't think she ever saw the dawn of August. :(

You are correct that no one else has publicly stated that they saw Stephanie at the Ruch store. The store owner said that he had not had contact with her since. July 3. My understanding is that Ames claimed the boys in the truck took him to his camp and brought him back to town the next day...really out of their way. One of the main reasons he was named a POI is that his story cannot be verified IIRC. If there were any boys in a green truck in the parking lot of the store, they have not been located, to our knowledge.

I've always wondered if JCSO was able to look at registrations for the campgrounds at Applegate Lake July 4. Usually you have to fill something out with vehicle license and name, and put your money in an envelope in a locked box.

I agree, sadly.

VERY INTERESTING OUOTP! Correct me if I am wrong, if memory serves me right, I recall in the comments under one of the first news broadcasts 2 people said they thought they saw Stephanie in Grants Pass on Tuesday after the 4th of July. That would have been on the 9th. By the way did this person that says that she thinks that may have been Stephanie in the car, did she mention if this girl had a nose ring? Or was she too far away to notice that? And, what about the cross necklace, Did she mention if she noticed it
