The Placerville find might be Susan Jacobson though.

The thanks button was not enough Lilibet. I have long suspected Stephanie's body is at the bottom of a mine known to the POI.

Thanks La Louve. That's been my feeling too. I was encouraged that LE was able to use a camera to search mine shafts for Erin Corwin. Of course, they had narrowed down the area quite a bit first. I think JCSO could narrow down their search by the distance the car could have been driven that night as well as looking at mining claims of Ames' friends within that range.

Even without finding Stephanie, I hope they can find enough probable cause for an arrest and trial.

Yep she probably would! You & Think ×3 have me cracking up laughing! When we get off topic we really get off topic! LOL This thread has been by far the most informative & versatile thread I have come across on WS. You never know what you going to read from day to day on here. One day I laugh and the next day I could be crying. I think everyone here has become so comfortable with each other that we can express our views about just anything & everything and everyone is so respectful of each others opinions. We have a great group here and I think if LE is reading our posts they surely must be taking ideas we have thrown out there seriously. Praying that some kind of evidence was discovered on the search that was conducted last week! And Lilibet have a great time at the concert!

Beautiful post, Sad Eyes. :loveyou::loveyou::loveyou:

Yes Think×3 she would definitely like this conversation! Thank you for joining the group! Hopefully we got you hooked & you stay with us cause you fit right in!!! :)

Thanks so much, Sad Eyes. That's so gracious of you. I am, indeed, hooked...and I also think Stephanie is very blessed to have had you detective angels looking out for her from the very beginning.:websleuther::angel:

From the Sheriff's press release in regard to the mine searches for Erin:

'Aerial searches identified more than 100 mine shafts and numerous bodies of water that were searched by the Technical Cave and Mine Teams and Specialized Dive Teams. Nearly 5,000 volunteer hours were dedicated to this search. '

http://cms.sbcounty.gov/sheriff/Med...eSearchforErinCorwinConcludesChristopher.aspx

Mine and cave rescue searches need highly specialized teams - in one article I read the San Bernardino authorities had asked for help from a team very far away, I think it was Montana.

You can see there was a HUGE amount of resources devoted to finding Erin as those volunteer hours don't include LE's time, but it was exceptional circumstances because they had a very good idea of her location. With Stephanie it's much more difficult, I think. But I'd hope LE could narrow down some possible locations, and call in some Oregon cave and mine SAR volunteers to help if needed. I'm sure there must be organizations there which would help.

Maybe OUOTP can explain her thinking on her post about Placerville. I'm confused. Stephanie's car was only used for about three hours late that night, so it's more likely she's within an hour or so from her house (assuming she made it back there from Ashland, as Detective Henderson has reason to believe). Placerville just doesn't compute IMO.

I, like others, doubt the body is Steph's. Placerville is a 5 hour drive from Ruch and also the body found was described as "partially decomposed" I posted the link for 2 reasons: 1---I was informed of a rumour, re Stephanie, that a body was found. I consulted with an expert person in the know who found this link. AND 2--- My map pins for Stephanie reach down to Eldorado National Forest which runs through Placerville. Now why my pin is there, im racking my brain to recall....Does anyone know if Ames had/has a claim there?

Thanks so much for the clarification, OUOTP. Wow! That's quite a rumor, if true. To the best of my knowledge about Ames, he does not have a claim there. I've never found that he has any connection with CA, just WY, OR and FL. That area is California "Gold Country" so maybe you pinned it to research further?

:tyou::tyou::tyou: To the Mods for putting Stephanie back in the highlighted yellow box on the top of the page again! I think it has helped get some new users interested in this thread & are working hard to help us & throwing out some new ideas on where & how to find our girl! Any new users reading this--- please join our discussion, we will welcome you with open arms!

OT, Lilibet I hope you enjoyed the concert and hope it wasn't too smokey! :)

Something keeps sticking in my head when I listen to the new media links---- it is that they say that LE conducted new searches to look for "EVIDENCE" in connection to the case of missing person Stephanie Warner. Evidence???? Evidence???? Not Stephanie???? I think they are thinking just as you mentioned here, Lilibet, that if they don't find Stephanie at least they hopefully will find the probable cause EVIDENCE.

I am also wondering---What did they find on her computer? There could be mining maps on her computer or locations of BUNKERS. JMO, but I think she is either in a bunker or a mine.

All of the above is IMO, JMO, MOO.

OT--The American Idol Concert at the Britt Festival in Jacksonville was great fun. The weather was perfect. No smoke. People we knew just happened to have seats next to us. The kids put on a really good show and the audience was great. We stayed afterward and the kids came out and went down the lines signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. There were lots of little girls who were sooooo excited to meet their favorites. It was a neat memory for them. The performers were so humble and appreciative of this opportunity and the support.

Here's a photo of the beautiful venue. We've been too old to sit on the ground (and get up again) for a long time, so we sat in reserved seats closer to the stage. :)

I imagine Stephanie attended a few concerts here during her time living in Ruch.

One question I had for you all (that I didn't specifically see in the threads, unless I missed it) was more of the details on the last conversation (s) that Stephanie had with anyone on July 4 -- meaning friends or family members -- or even those who encountered her on that day who did not really personally know her. Or even overheard conversations.

I did see where she may have had an argument with the POI, but I was just looking for more details on what we know from that day, from Stephanie's own words, as described by others. I just still do not feel like I have a very good sense of what was on her mind/her mood or just any misc. tidbits of info...can anyone tell me anything like that?

I can't say exactly why I want to know more on this...I guess just in relation to analyzing her more probable later behaviors.

That's a great question, Think. I'd like to know the answer to that too. All we know about is the argument at the park. I've long felt that the argument about leaving the booth early was a tipping point for Stephanie that may have unleashed rage about the way Ames and his family behaved toward her...takers, not givers like she was. If she was making her final break with all of them at that point, in the car before dropping son and dil off at their place in Ashland, she could have been in great danger, as people often are when leaving an abusive situation. This is all just speculation on my part and like you, I wish we knew more.

Naturally, I had to run off to read your blog, Zwie. I too, hope your dog's eye is better.

With your tender heart, I think you will appreciate this video "Operation Duck Rescue". This took place recently along Interstate 5 passing through Medford. LE to the rescue! They dug a hole under the fence and herded the ducks to safety. Stephanie would have loved this, since she once drove about 40 miles to get help for a squirrel she had run over.

Just wondering, does anyone know if Dateline is doing a full episode on Stephanie's case? I saw the little snipet (I guess that is a word) of it on the Internet but I have never seen it advertised on tv. I do remember reading on here that other people have seen it a few different times I presume on Tv.

I haven't heard that there will be a full show. What you saw is what it is...a short segment about Stephanie "Missing in America." It isn't a preview to a full length show. I really wish they would cover Stephanie in depth.

Here it is for those who haven't seen it.

I really hope there is some movement going on behind the scenes for Stephanie (beyond what we are privvy to).

Maybe it's just me (and feel free to shake some sense into me, fellow WSers), but I sometimes feel like it has to be a certain "type" of case to get the extra attention...again, forgive me if I sound unnecessarily negative. I guess I am just having a day where I feel discouraged on some missing persons cases.:(

I understand your discouraged feelings, Think. I know you've read all the threads, so you've seen us express frustration from time to time. It comes with the territory. I do believe that Detective Henderson is diligently following leads and tips. I imagine there is a lot of information LE has gathered during their searches and early in the investigation, but they obviously don't have enough to make an arrest that would stick...at this point. Henderson has come right out recently and strongly indicated that they believe/know Ames was involved in Stephanie's disappearance. Proving it is another matter.

As far as there being a certain "type" of case that gets extra attention, I think there is some truth in that, at least as far as the media is concerned. I also imagine that LE has to "triage" cases based to some degree on evidence available, danger to the public, pressure from the family and the public, etc. I prefer to believe that they don't base that decision on the victim's history and "appeal", or influential POI's, although it's easy to become cynical and make that assumption in some cases (Rebecca Zahau, JonBenet Ramsey). Also, LE, being human, does make mistakes and wrong assumptions in their investigations (McStay family).

You've probably seen me make the point on these threads that crime victims and/or victim's families MUST be proactive and not just sit back and leave everything to LE. When our home was burglarized, I did my own investigation and solved it. There is no way that LE could have gained access like I did as a private citizen. If someone in my family disappeared or was murdered, I would be actively working with LE whether they liked it or not. I would hire a PI if possible. Two really good examples of this are the families of Sheila Franks and Danielle Bertolini Brooks, two women who disappeared in Humboldt county, CA (they each have threads on WS). Unfortunately, their efforts have not paid off yet, but at least they have the satisfaction of knowing that they did all they could.

Here is a quote from an article that supports this point:

A missing person is too important to be left to one person. Those family members who wish to “leave it to the professionals,” and sit back on the couch to let the police do the work will probably get out of this what they put into it. I prefer the Team Approach, with the family involved in a productive way. We must help law enforcement to accomplish this mission, and if they do not know how, we can show them the way.

Will law enforcement accept your assistance? Perhaps not willingly. We in law enforcement tend to think that we don’t need any help, and some investigators will view the family as hindrance. That’s too bad. The missing person is YOUR LOVED ONE. You may have to be insistent. You may ruffle some feathers. Is there anything more important?

http://justiceinmiami.blogspot.com/2008/07/everything-you-need-to-know-when-your.html

Not everyone has the personality, inner strength and ability to make that kind of effort though.

I didn't mean to write an essay, but you raised some issues that got me going. :) and besides, right now there isn't anything new to talk about. :(

All of this is JMO.

Here is an interesting quote from an interview with former homicide detective Joe Kenda. You gotta love this guy!

PC: Looking back on your remarkable track record, why were you the one who was able to solve all these cases? What are the skills that a successful homicide investigator needs to have, to be able to deal with these incredibly demanding cases?

KENDA: In general, you need to have a knowledge of the law—you need to know what you can do and, more important, what you can not do while conducting an investigation.

And, just as important—you need to be naturally curious. You need to have an undying curiosity about every case. Where guys make mistakes is forming an opinion on the way to the crime scene. I never did that.

Let's say you show up at the crime scene and there is a blonde woman lying face down with six bullets through the chest. You need to ask every possible question to figure out why this blonde is lying here dead. Is she dead because her husband got tired of the way she butters her toast every morning for 25 years? Or, is she dead because someone out there thinks all blondes are she-devils who need to pay. And you ask every question in between.

Then, you need to get to know the victim. Who is this person? Who is the victim? Tell me about the victim. Do they have a secret life?

So, you start to poke. You start to probe. And even when you’re in the dark, and you’re not sure where you're going, when you keep poking, and someone says ouch ... well now. Who might you be?
